There was talk last week that Newcastle were after Andy Carroll – and that would be for the third summer running that we have been credited with an interest in the Gateshead striker, who made his name on Tyneside before leaving for Liverpool for a massive £35M in January 2011.
Andy Carroll – lots of injuries
But since then precious little has been said about any move to Newcastle, and there was news we were even negotiating for Carroll in New Zealand, but those now seem to have been inaccurate stories.
Apparently Newcastle are not interested in bringing Andy back to Tyneside, and one of the reasons we thought Andy would be a risky buy at around £15M is his injury record, which is not good.
Carroll missed over half of last season with injury, and he played only 16 games with two goals, and while on loan the season before he scored 7 goals in 24 appearances.
And Andy was missing from the West Ham team that was defeated 2-1 by Wellington Phoenix yesterday, and the Phoenix are Newcastle’s opponents on Saturday night in Wellington.
Apparently Carroll has picked up an ankle injury, so at £100K/week in wages, Andy is proving to be (very) expensive for West Ham, who are not one of the richest clubs in England.
And the latest news is not good on Andy, with the reports being that he will no longer participate in the New Zealand tour, and he has been sent over here to the US to (possibly) have an operation on the ankle.
We can understand why West Ham may want to sell Andy because of all the injuries he keeps picking up, and they have also brought in two new strikers this summer.
But big Andy’s injury record would hardly improve on Tyneside, and at £15M he would be very expensive for the Toon – not to mention his wages.
What do you think?

Comment #1He already said himself he didn’t want to return here. Also there are rumours that he is out until xmas. We really should not dwell on this.

Something interesting about attitudes towards freindlies (and i am not saying you are one)….
Man u winning 7-0 against la galaxy (mostly a bunch of ageing has beens from bigger leagues around the world) is a great start for van gaal. I agree that it is….
however
Some here will say Nufc winning 4-0 against a more athletic side than la galaxy (but with limited skill i concede) is meaningless.
Again i am not saying you are one of these people, but it shows the contrast in attitudes and negativity of some toon fans.

Comment #4Another Andy Carroll story!! I thought he was a West Ham player – and a rather poor one at that.
What’s it got to do with us? It would be utter madness to bring him back to NUFC, why do we need another replacement Michael Owen Sicknote??
He’s best off where he is.

I just had to, I’m sure you will understand. I needed to get this off my chest. I rest my case.
All these arguments about ‘you know who’ is like two bald men fighting over a comb.

Comment #8There is supposed to be a link (I don’t know if any research has been done) between drink and injuries – Kieron Dyer was another prime example.

Comment #9I can’t see us signing Carroll for the simple reason him leaving West Ham is a step backwards for him?
He would have to take a pay cut as Ashley would never pay a player over a £100k a week, West Ham want to win cups? We don’t and Ashley wants us out in our first rounds? West Ham want European football? Again, we don’t as Ashley will not pay for a “squad” that can play in Europe, This transfer will never happen and Pardew has stated on numerous occasions that we will (not can not) compete with the likes of Swansea, Southampton, West Ham and basically the other 19 teams in this league, This story should be put to bed now and we should concentrate on getting a cheap striker in or one on loan.

Comment #11Maybe we could pay £6m fee and £50,000 a week wages with West Ham Paying the rest. Or we could pay him £70,000 for each week he’s not injured, dropping to £40,000 when he is.

Comment #12No problem bringing AC back – would love it. BUT at his current value, which has nowt to do with his previous sale price. £5m and £40k a week. Our jog on.

Comment #14Just even thinking about him returning gives me shudders. It would be absolutely retarded of us to bring him back. One of the most overrated and injury prone players ever! So tired of these ridiculous rumours with so many more promising players out there.
