Are Newcastle Really After This Arsenal Defender?

Arsenal are getting close to bringing in 19 year-old Calum Chambers of Southampton, and if signed he will fight it out with former Newcastle right back Mathieu Debuchy for the right back spot at Arsenal next season.

Carl Jenkinson – could be made available by Arsenal

And that has caused news reports that there is no future for 22 year-old Englishman Carl Jenkinson at the Gunners, who was a target of Newcastle’s earlier this summer.

Carl was a target because we knew we needed to replace Mathieu Debuchy, who was strongly linked with Arsenal during the World Cup, and also because Alan Pardew had said he wanted more Englishmen in the Newcastle squad.

But since then we have signed Daryl Janmaat, the Dutch International right back from Feyenoord, and Newcastle have also found out there is a (rather large) premium on both the transfer fees and wages of Englishmen.

So while it may be understandable that the news stories report that Newcastle United are interested in Jenkinson, we wonder if that’s true.

Newcastle have Daryl Janmaat who will be our right back next season, and the right footed Italian International Davide Santon,  can always play at right back if needed.

So we’d be surprised if Newcastle are really interested in Carl Jenkinson.

What do you think?

If the price is good, sign him up. With santon and Raylor injury prone he’d be good back up to Janmaat. Plus we don’t want to see Anita or mbiwa playing there.

Why on earth would we want to give an Arse player good playing time to aide his development? Why dont we try doing it for our own young players instead??

If there is no option for us to buy at the end of the loan, then just NO.

The question to be asked is just why are Arsenal prepared to let him go?

Much as it pains me to say it :

It will very much surprise me if we actually sign anyone else at all ?

We need at least one striker, but i don,t think we will be getting one?
