Newcastle On Alert As Senegal Striker Made Available

News in France that Metz are willing to sell their top striker Diafra Sakho this summer, but only at the right price and that should alert Newcastle, who still need strikers to strengthen the squad.

Diafra SAKHO

Diafra Sackho – made available be Metz

Sakho was the Ligue 2 top striker last season and he helped Metz get promoted, but of course there’s a big difference between Ligue 2 and the English Premier League.

The Senegal striker finished as the top scorer in Ligue 2 last season, hitting the back of the net 20 times and impressing.

The Metz striker was watched by a number of PL clubs last season, including Newcastle, and club’s Academy Director Denis Schaeffer had this to say to Inside Futbol last season:

“Every game, there are around 15 international clubs who come to the matches to see him. English clubs are here.”

“I’m happy he’ll stay until the end of the season. Then it will be difficult for us to keep him.”

“I hope his future will be at a very important club, like Papiss Cisse, who plays now at Newcastle.”

“Every game, there are around 15 international clubs who come to the matches to see him. English clubs are here.”

There’s no doubt that Sakho has had a great season for Metz in the French second division, and in 36 games he scored 20 goals to help Metz to promotion, and they finished top of the league, 9 points above second placed Lens, and not surprisingly he was voted the Ligue 2 Player of the Year.

Since Diafra joined Metz back in 2009, he has made a total of 90 appearances with 25 goals, so last season was by far his best season, at least as far as goal-scoring goes.

Sakho is a very decent striker and we would expect Newcastle to be interested in this player, who could cost around £5M.

What do you think?

No thanks, £5m for a player not even proven in the French 2nd tier never mind the French Ligue 1.

If he has 20 goals in 36 apps last season and 25 goals in 90 apps in total, that means take last season away and his ratio is 5 goals in 54 games for Metz

    No chance

We need a striker who ideally has some premier league experience or at least a consistent level in one of the top leagues in europe imo

I really hope Lukaku doesn’t go to Everton, who seem to rely heavily on loans and a late flourish in the transfer market each window. Our squad as is better than theirs, I’d say, although Lukaku would make all the difference to them. Southampton are clearly less of a side this year, and the rest are actually pretty ordinary. If Lukaku doesn’t go to Everton, I’d say we’re looking more than realistically at seventh, and top six certainly, if we did get those desired 3 more in.

As NUFC supporters who rightly complain about the lack of money spent on the team, the sale of our best players and the intention to develop then sell high our home produced kids, I feel a great deal of sympathy for Southampton supporters at present.

Having lost or about to lose the backbone of their talented team last year to the tune of an estimated 120 million pounds, apparently the manager is only getting 50 million of that to spend.

And we think we are hard done by

@expatmag: A lad I used to work with who is a Southampton fan was kicking off about selling Lambert. I offered to buy him a Newcastle shirt. A few days ago he offered to buy me a Southampton shirt.

    Can’t say I blame him.

you could see in their forums they are apparently wanting to stage a protest in the first home game of the season or something.

but they are just as shrewd as us in spending. Tadic is a great signing for them at a bargain. could be better than lallana.

One thing for sure, all clubs outside the top echelons of the top teams in europe are just feeding clubs to those who want their players.

Top teams no longer develop their own talent. They just buy othet teams talent.

I mean, can anyone really say Shaw is worth 32 million pounds and a 120k a week? What about 16 million for Chambers who isnt even a regular.

Bloody ridiculous. FFP will gave no bearing on these top clubs unless yhey ban them from the CL and not just for one season but several

    Rant over

I don’t understand what is the special about the 8th
team players in the BPL last season ? totally overpriced
even we when we finished 5th we didn’t receive an amount of money like that , maybe coz we didn’t
have too many English players in our squad , remember all we sold Carroll for £36m and we all know he don’t worth that

Anyway , Southampton have a big bad debt around £26m & they also need to pay another £30m for their new training ground , I think they are weaker than before 😛

At least Southampton have managed to get themselves a decent Trainer.

Don,t underestimate Ronald Koeman, if he gets 50Mil to use for Transfers then every single signing for the Saints this time around will be a good one.

They have got the striker Pelle to make the move from Feyenoord with Koeman to Southampton too. Unknown here but unproven in the Prem. Pelle may well be one of the stars of next season?

While a lot of players have left the Saints i think they will be fine !

As for Sakho, this is just another player who will be gone to Africa for the ACN Tournemant for three months of every year? For that reason i don,t want us to go for him !

    Newexpat –

I hadn’t realised that the ACN had been changed to an annual event, and extended in duration.

Still, if Sakho made the squad, it would mean that he had improved significantly, hence his value would be on the up.

FFP means F all when the clubs have so much power. This world is all about finance. Imagine banning clubs like Barca, Manu, City, Madrid, PSG for flouting FFP. Who would wanna watch CL then?

CL would be meaningless without these teams who holds so much power. Without these teams CL and UEFA might lose billions of dollars in viewship.

FFP means nothing at all. really. these clubs knows, and they don’t care.

Unless we have a rich sheikh, the way forward for clubs like us and Soton is to develop youngsters for these teams and sell them for 30s and 40 millions.

Ayoze Perez and Aarons are all potentially worth that.

It seems that around that time of year and every year we either get players sold or out injured for months! Not sure when or the time-scale of ACN Tourney?

We already lose three or four players for that Tournament?
I just don,t want us to sign another one who goes on an African adventure at the most important time of the season?

Is this bloke Donesk any good?

Not a bad turn out in Wellington at all, 30K with 8K Geordies there.
I see the mackems have signed that Van Arnolt on a four year deal, I thought he was good when he spent that time with us, hopefully Haidara turns out better.
It will be interesting to see what happens to Soton, what will the owners do with the excess 70M, were they in debt ? Will they get away with pocketing it all, wait and see.

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston has assured fans the club will have a competitive Sky Bet Championship squad next season.

The Seasiders were forced to cancel their pre-season trip to Spain as they currently have only eight professional players on their books and are also without a goalkeeper.

The squad was decimated by the departure of 27 players at the end of last season and Oyston says offers are being made in an effort to recruit new playing staff.

guys if southampton is called dismantling. i wonder what is going on at blackpool.

they have only 8 players currently.

will they be able to field a starting line up and substites before their first game??

I know we have a coach mon!

But, whatever your opinion of Pards? Some of his tactics and behaviour on and off the field of play are suspect !

His hands are often tied when it comes to Transfers but at the end of the day we have had loads talent in the team, for the last few years and, if handled differently and played in the right position? then maybe some of the bad results we have had at different times in the last two seasons would of been different?

Its water under the bridge actually and we can,t do nowt about it now? We have Pardew for at least another four years, what is it? An 8 year contract . How many coaches have had or ever have had such a contract?

I am not a Pardew fan and support the club whoever we have as Manager but i feel we could do better than who we have at the moment ? Plus i am not the only one on here who feels the same way?

Oh and can,t you do any better than “Dumpass”?

We do need more quality signings, agreed, but no offence all this talk about ‘£X million being good value for Grenier or whoever’ and ‘we should just pay this for whoever’ is becoming laughable. In reality we know sweet FA about players market values and gossip is our only qualification in judging player potential.
We talk about our shrewd businessman owner spending millions as if it were nothing more than buying a newspaper with loose change yet we have no experience of making purchases of that financial magnitude. Generally the biggest spend we ever undertake in our lives is the mortgage on our house. We stretch repayments back over 25 years yet the amount is no more than a PL players weekly wage.
Personally I despise the way ManU, Chelsea, Citeh and now Liverpool just attempt to ‘buy’ the league title each year. It’s greedy, pathetic, it’s soulless and it is destroying the game. Same thing at Barca, PSG etc they don’t care what they pay, look at some of Southamptons big sells this window. Stupid. Even Arsene Wenger folded last season blowing £40mil+ on Ozil. This financial bullying seriously unbalances leagues and creates mercenary players who barely give a sh1t about the game or any club they play for, they take devoted fans for a joyride and seemingly don’t care if they even get to play or not.
Like the rest of us I have been sick at the dealings (or lack thereof) at this club but things do appear to be on the turnaround. Personally I dislike that we allegedly disrespect clubs and players with derisory offers but equally I like that we pay sensible amounts and are not held to ransom, It makes those rare times when we turn over Chelsea or the likes feel even more special. This club feels real, not plastic.

If the team are playing well and the players are battling with pride for their chance to pull on the Black and White shirt then I’m happy. Let’s see more players who grew up dreaming of scoring goals for Newcastle. Players who might fight to remain at their hometown club despite big offers coming in. Shearer anyone?

    Fix bayonets
