Newcastle Making Sensational Swoop For Two Lyon Players?

With Lyon play maker Clement Grenier being left out of the Lyon squad for their 3rd qualifying tie of the Europa League on Thursday night, and with Grenier missing training at Lyon since Friday – the rumors are swirling around that Newcastle may be close to a deal for the French International play maker.

Alexandre Lacazetteclement grenier

Are Newcastle after these two top players Lacazette and Grenier?

And Twitter lit up last night with rumors that Clement Grenier is actually on his way to Newcastle to have a medical at the Tyneside club.

But remember these are just rumors, but what’s new?

A French fan posted on his Twitter account that he shared a flight with Clement from Lyon to Newcastle, although how true that is becomes a good question, and he didn’t say anything about Clement about to sign at Newcastle.

Here’s our translation of the Tweet from Zenon Zadkine – @ZenonZadki – and it’s now all over Twitter::

“Glad to have been on my Lyon-Newcastle flight with @clemgrenier – very available and open, really a nice person!”

And with the additional news late last night in France that Newcastle have made another bid to take 23 year-old striker Alexandre Lacazette to Newcastle, it could be that Lee Charnley’s remit at Newcastle is to get both Clement and Alexandre on Tyneside.

And that would probably cost Newcastle anywhere from £15M to £20M for the two top Lyon players.

And if Newcastle can pull of this coup we would need to reach – quickly – for those blood pressure pills.

That’s because it would mean that Newcastle had signed the following 8 players this summer – Jack Colback, Ayoze Perez, Siem de Jong, Remy Cabella, Emmanuel Riviere, Daryl Janmaat, Alexandre Lacazette and Clement Grenier – all for around £40M.

On second thoughts I better take some of the pills right now – my blood pressure just went up significantly writing that last sentence. 😀

Are some still harping on about Remy, bloody hell have you no shame? He rejected us in January for a team destined for relegation, joined us on loan so he could get a dream move in this window, refused to commit to us after we paid £2m loan fee throughout the season. Refused to play in the last game of the season because it meant nothing to him, finally we make a move at the end of the season and he says he’ll be joining a top 4 team. Get a grip, mercenary, self centred, egotistical t*** who has a worse attitude than ones some already criticise at the club.

No thank you on Remy and please give it a rest about him, he said no to us so many times, NO MEANS NO!! Let him enjoy life playing in front of 17000 fans that’s what he initially signed up for

Come on guys lets dream a little. If we get Lacazette & Grenier we would literally be Champions League contenders, if the whole squad remained fit.

Mike Ashley is worth £3bn, so what is a £20m INVESTMENT for him?

I would have said bah humbag but if by some miracle the news that Milan want Hatem for 10 to 12 mill is accurate then why not? Swap him for Grenier.

Honestly, it get worse on here.
A few hrs ago someone tweetef thst Greniere was on a plane bound for Newcastle.
£0 mins later a source suggest we had made yet another fresh bid for Lacazette.
Now ,hey, what a surprise, we,ve been runoured to be signing them both up.
With Remy failing his medical,i think Liverpool will go in for Lacazette so we stand no chance ,as for Grenier, he,s tucked up in bed pondering a move to Arsenal i reckon.
    What dross will be next.

If we get both Lacazette and Grenier we would have a pretty formidable team.

That would also signal that Percy’s comments about trying to challenge for a Champions League is true.

But as per usual with this club ill believe it when I see it.

That Grenier tweet -he was supposed to be on a Newcastle to Lyon flight – complete tosh. there are no direct flights from Lyon to Newcastle. So saying the Lyon to Newcastle flight would be a misnomer – as no such flight exists. Air France fly from Lyon to Charles de Gaulle – where you can get a connecting flight to Newcastle. Similarly British Airways fly from Lyon to Heathrow -where you get a connecting flight. So anyone would probably not refer to Lyon to Newcastle but Lyon to CDG/Heathrow or CDG/Heathrow to Newcastle – ie naming that particular leg of the flight. So complete bollocks.

    Ok guys. Back to reality.

1……Ashley will not buy Remy especially after he has turned his nose up at us twice already and certainly not for the 15 million quid allegedly written into hus contract.

2…….AC Milan would have to be absolute dopes to offer 10 to 12 million pounds for HBA considering his year remaining on contract, his non involvement in the first team squad and the knowledge that NUFC would bite their hands off for a couple of million just to get him off their books. Also factor in that they are struggling financially impacts as well.

3…….It is obvious the tweet by the french guy about Grenier on a flight from Lyon to Newcastle was BS as these direct flights dont exist and because the player has missed a couple of days training, people are putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with 5. In my opinion, Grenier would only have been an option if we failed to sign Cabella.

4…….We may well have bid for Lacezette but Lyon hold the trump card here and as the player doesnt appear to be that desperate to leave, Lyon can bide their time and see who else comes in for him. I think this one will go down to the wire and he will end up in Spain with someone like Atletico Madrid. We will get the ex cuse of not being able to get him over the line when in fact, we wouldnt have bid anywhere near Lyon’s valuation.

Finally, if we do sign a forward, it will probably someone on loan like Campbell from Arsenal or some obscure second rated player from Ligue 2 or the Ukraine.

I fully expect Ashley to say to Pardew to use and develop the players and youngsters already at the club.

    NUFC Jack

A couple of seasons ago, when we were in a relegation battle, Ashley forked out 18 million pounds plus on 5 players.

He had apparently wanted to use the money to reduce the debt owed to him, having already reduced the debt by 11 million pounds previously.

Due to the threat of relegation, he chose to strengthen the team and delay the repayment to the loan until later.

I would imagine that there would be no better time than the present for him to do this and fully expect that repayment to occur now.

Therefore I dont expect anymore players coming in thus window.

This is quite literally worse than hell. The pit of utter despair.

However, you didn’t stipulate the opponent in said match. I think I’ll be popping along to the derby! (oh actually, of course I won’t)

You’re right. It’s a shame that we all absolutely know that this ain’t going to happen. There was a time long ago when we were competitive with Europe’s elite. Probably top 10 in Europe at one point.

Now we all accept complete mediocrity.

expat – – ya liddle reepa – no bloody red and white paint in my house. just about got the decorating done -just the sngs to touch up (please note touching up is a painters expression -not the sort of touching up you do). Up in the loft tomorrow to find a suitable power cable to extend to supply the wall mounted telly -ie cable behind plasterboaard so wires not seen. Got one of those swivel and tilt extension arms –done that and mounted the telly -looks good.
After that the new floor is going down- that’ll take a couple of days – gaps sorted by scotia beading -got an air nailer to fix that – undercutting the door jambs will be a pain -but I’ll be using an undercut saw. So when thats done the new suite will be delivered from the Toon. Pretty sick of DIY at the moment.
