A young Newcastle side did well last night against a strong Sheffield Wednesday side, to get a 1-0 win with an excellent goal from 20 year-old new signing Ayoze Perez, who seems to be settling in well at Newcastle – and his first goal for the club was the difference between the sides.
Ayoze Perez – scored good goal last night
After the game manager Alan Pardew was pleased with the performance in what was a close game:
“It was a tough one,” “We brought a very young side.” “We only got off the plane two days ago, and it was a great effort. We really put in a fantastic commitment.”
“It was a good night for us. We beat a very strong team.” “We just used the guys that didn’t New Zealand. The two guys that didn’t come – Gabriel Obertan and Cheick Tiote – were excellent. That’s good for us.”
“We had a really strong work ethic and a third clean sheet.” “We made a lot of changes. I’m really pleased with that.”
Gabby Obertan may have been excellent last night at Hillsborough, but he still has no future at Newcastle, and he will be leaving the club before the summer transfer window runs out on Monday, September 1st.
And in this busy pre-season Newcastle are at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany this weekend, and play Malaga on Saturday and hosts of the tournament, Schalke 04 the following day.
We hope to see a number of our new players like Remy Cabella and Daryl Janmaat in those two games, and returning players Tim Krul and Moussa Sissoko from World Cup duty in Brazil may also participate.

From previous debate..
For me,my first choice would be lacazatte
Correct me if I’m wrong,he started to play
For Lyon first team back in 2011,he played
as a right winger for two seasons before moving to upfront to support Gomis last season where he became so effective and start attracting big clubs.what I like about him is that he is young, quick, strong, with good skills and is utility player as well.
Forget his height,if u look at his stats for the last 3yrs, his goal scoring record improved vastly which is the indication that the lad will become star skr in the next two years.
As for Grenier Lyon put him for sale doesn’t mean his performance was down.
This guy is a pure playmaker like cabaye,
Which we are looking for since January.
Think about if something happenes to siem de jong,we don’t have enough creative players which may lead us to struggle. what I like about him is that he is young like laca, quick, dead ball specialist, have good skills with killer passing eyes.
This lad will become superstar with in two yes as well.both players will have huge advantage on and off the pitch with whatever club they play next season. so this is a huge opportunity for us to sign them now if we want to move forward and play in the CL soon.

Comment #2Cordone scored goals and looked great in pre-season as well. Perez seems a good find by Carr so far, but it’s hardly a benchmark against these teams we’ve played. The jury is still out.

Comment #3Im hoping to see some good displays from this lad coming off the bench this season.
He seems like he could give the opposition something to think about.

Comment #4I havent checked my Nostradamus in a while but isn’t obertan getting an assist one of the harbingers of the apocalypse? 🙂
Wouldn’t be so sure he’ll be leaving in the summer either ed, even blackpool who have about 7 players at the moment wouldn’t take him 🙂

Comment #5I am still puzzled about the Obertan selection last night;
…what’s coach d’s angle
*he most know we won’t get more signings unless we offload players – and he cannot seem to get Benny among others off our books.
Like they say “if you break it you buy it”. What a shame coach d!

…Obertan is on big wages I have heard – he likes big wages! It’s not like he’s CL or French National material anyway (and he knows that…heck Everton knows that)

Comment #9Obertan is staying. Not sure why anyone has cause to think otherwise. No-one else wants him. It makes sense to give him time in pre season as he could well be involved in the first team this year. (Sadly)

Comment #10Jesper…. Hello to you too sir!
He likes big wages? Right you are. In fairness if i was in his position i’d be milking the old cow dry as well, then slink back to bikini bottom and retire 🙂

Comment #15I haven’t seen obertan play since 11/12 season, but in current form I think he is better than marveaux and should get a chance for the last ten or 15 min of EPL match or in FA or league cups.that’s why he stayed instead of marvs.
As for Loic, we don’t have much choice but try to get him because ACN is coming
in a middle of season, Riviere haven’t seen him yet but looks unproven.so it looks striker is a very must now.
As for Dier don’t know him but I think Micah is a better choice, bcoz he is a utility player with EPL experience,

Comment #17Another puzzle for us all to think about.
Is Obertan staying cos we wont be getting anyone else in ?
Are we selling Sissoko, thats why Pardew is keeping him(Obertan) in touch with the first team?
Time will tell but i still think either Sissoko or Krul will be sold at the last minute for a hefty profit, yet again.

Comment #18Read through some on the comments from yesterday, when did toon fans become accountants? I’ve never known anything like it.
Lukaku isn’t worth this or that we’ll his goals ensured Everton got around £20m+ in league placing and for cup runs, he’s signed for 5 years so I think he is well worth £28m. How scared have we become as fans of big transfer fees haha….sheep is how I’d describe us, the club spin PR and we take the drivel spouted and regurgitate the s*** to all others!!

Comment #19If cAshley had any sense he’d get rid of puma and wonga, try and make amens at Adidas and secure a lucrative/reputable sponsor! Then go splash a huge fee on a marque signing and reap the rewards of increase shirt sales.
I know we’re not on Real Madrid’s level, but just look at the increase revenue from their signings this summer!! I bet Lukaku @ Everton will have similar effect?

Comment #20Any of Remy Lacazette and Grenier would be cracking signings, but all would be reluctant to be here as they want CL. But who cares? Cabaye and Debuchy we’re also in that bracket but rather have them and Loic for a while than not at all
