Future Unclear For Newcastle Midfield Target

11:12 pm, Friday, August 1st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 13 Comments

Newcastle still have Clement Grenier as  a target this summer, but it seems the player himself is quote happy at Lyon, and we suppose he could even still be at the French club come September.

Clement Grenier - future not clear

There was news earlier this week that Grenier had not trained with Lyon, and that he was not in the Lyon squad for last night’s Europa League qualifier first leg at Mlada Boleslab, which they won 4-1.

However, there is an understandable reason for Clement not being seen in training this week, and he had this to say on his personal website:

“I have read a lot of things about myself recently. Just to be clear, Lyon’s medical and technical staff have set me a specific program so I can be back at 100%. That includes a period spent training indoors.”

“That is why I have not been present at some of the training sessions.” “I have no problem with the club and have never missed a training session intentionally.”

“There is no controversy and my intention is to be back on the pitch and competing as soon as possible.”

And Frederic Guerra his agent has also talked today in Calciomercato, and it seems he will keep everybody guessing whether Clement will be leaving Lyon this summer or not:

“Until the end of the window, there exists a possibility that he leaves. The possibilities, there are several. We shall wait and see if they become concrete or not. For the moment, there is absolutely nothing.”

There’s a very good chance that one of those possibilities is with Newcastle United, but we may have to wait for a few weeks or so,  before we know if we can get this excellent play-maker on Tyneside.

Comments welcome.

Note: There will be a meeting with Peter Beardsley at the Green in Wardley, Gateshead on Friday 22nd August from 7:00 pm. Tickets are now available priced at approx £25, and that includes a meal, a glass of wine and a talk with Peter – if you’d like a ticket for this event please call the Green at 0191 4950171.

    Ciaran

i think the signings have more to do with relegation

unless some1 like charnley can see the benefits of opening the lines of communications its not gonna happen is it

will there be any more protests lined up a certain amount of pressure was applied at the end of the season will they be looking to expand and keep it up

Ed, as you quote “For the moment, there is absolutely nothing”!

One could assume that no credible bid has been received for his services, which, if NUFC are interested, they have not made a credible offer for the player.

In which case, how is there a possibility for NUFC??

Unfortunately protocol dictates that what is discussed at board level must remain there. What I can say is that we will be holding an open meeting in the next few months where you can air that question publicly if you so wish.

I cannot see the lines of communication opening any time soon either.

Well whatever the reason, the signings are the bare minimum that was required, as relegation was a very real prospect with the squad in the state it was in.

    Evening buddy

Me neither mate. Another potential no doubt.Wish we would just gout and Buy quality rather than all these potential players that may or may not as is quite often the case pay off for Nufc.

He is clearly holding out for champions league football. Possibility he might move when it becomes clear that newcastle is his best option but of course a champions league team might move for him before then.

Its a shame; I had hoped he might be convinced we were an attractive option atter out excellent summer transfer business.

How many grenier threads is there gonna be. Id love him hes a player id like to get but the money should be spent at the back why can the back line never get fixed for once.

The lads a good player, but unproven and expensive. I’d be just as happy with that Norwegian “wunderkid”

You all are talking about how Grenier is good but havent seen him playing not even once. He s inconsistant, injury prone and nobody wants him except Newcastle.
