There is a report in the Mail that Newcastle United have completed the deal to bring Facundo Ferreyra on loan from Shakhtar for next season, with an option to sign the striker permanently for about £6.5M or €8M.
Facundo Ferreyra – option to buy for £6.5M
The loan fee is £1.6M and the reports are that Ferreyra is very keen to join Newcastle United, after talking to his Argentine compatriot Fabricio Coloccini about the Tyneside club, before agreeing to join the club.
Certainly this is another good signing by Newcastle this summer – and our 7th signing of the summer.
The Argentine U20 striker (12 appearances – 5 goals) will certainly give Alan Pardew’s side a much needed goal-scoring threat up front.
He was born in Lomas de Zamora, Argentina in 1991 and gets the nickname of Chucky and came through the Youth Academy at his home town club, Club Atletico Banfield or simply Banfield.
While not a prolific goalscorer, he has scored 37 goals in his 103 first team appearances at three clubs – Banfield (56 app 14 goals), Velez Sarsfield (25 app 17 goals) and Donetsk (22 app 6 goals) – and Ferreyra is still young at just 23 and can improve on Tyneside.
And he now has a chance to make the deal at Newcastle a permanent one if he has a good season.
Newcastle have been following the Argentine for over two years now, and were particularly impressed with his play and record at Velez Sarsfield, where he was quite prolific in scoring 17 goals in just 25 appearances the season before last.
Shakhtar paid out £7.5M for the 6ft 2ins striker last summer, but he did not play much for the Ukrainian side last season, with only five league starts among his 22 total appearances.
Ferreyra joins Ayoze Perez, Jack Colback, Remy Cabella, Emmanuel Riviere, Siem de Jong and Daryl Janmaat on Tyneside, in what is becoming one of the best transfer windows we have seen at Newcastle for some time.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.
Note: There will be a meeting with Peter Beardsley at the Green in Wardley, Gateshead on Friday 22nd August from 7:00 pm. Comment #43Thankfully Newcastle didn’t follow Ketsbaia9’s other suggestions which were/are bizarre choices.
even two years ago, Diego Rivero was a 30-year-old bit part player for Boca and Damian Luna was not even playing in the top flight. Had to check and he is now with Peruvian side, Inti Gas Deportes!

I agree with u but if we sign one or two strikers,it is better to send our youth out.
Clearly to get some experience..
But IMO I think we should hire academy coaches from France or Netherlands. They tend to have more skills in feeding football
to youngsters. All in all the problem lies on the acadamy coaches imo

Comment #45nut meg, just checked. You are totally right. Maybe I got his fee muddled up with Coloccinis…
Anyway I agree Mapou hasn’t cut it at this level even though he showed great promise (pace, confidence on the ball). I think my point stands about him anyway, we will get next to nothing for him now. Better to loan him, let him showcase himself in Spain, then ship him out.
Sorry for late reply.

not to mention the fact w would have had scharner at the club. I am a better player than him!!
Then add the fact that if kets were in charge, we would be short of our home grown quota and subject to big fines and sanctions, as he refuses to even acknowledge the existence of the rules

It lies with those in charge at the higher end of the academy, namely Watson and Richardson. Then with those that are in the transitional phase of the development squad.
I don’t care where the coaches are from particularly, there are very good English coaches and it would be great to get some more of those to compliment the few talented ones we have. I wouldn’t want to go too far and employ all French/Dutch/German etc. A healthy blend of coaches with differing ideas and methods will help develop not only the players but the coaches themselves.

Comment #48I recommended Mbiwa and Cisse. We captured them. I wanted us to sign Debuchy and Sissoko. Carr must have spotted Santon.
One player who I would now like us to scout is Stefan Denswil at Ajax. He is a young centre back who is quality on the ball and has the potential to score goals from corners.
We need a ball playing centre back who can score goals (i.e. Vertonghen/Alderweireld).
Now is the time to go for Toby Alderweireld too.
I approved the signing of Anita. He should figure more this season and is totally underrated.

Comment #50The Darren Ambrose and Lee Hughes suggestions were for when we were in the championship. Paul Scharner would’ve been a good signing at the time as he is versatile and scores goals from corners etc.

Ah yes that too. As much as I might not want him given any amount of responsibility with the club, he makes for an excellent contributor to this blog!

Comment #61I dont think Rivero played for Newell’s but regardless making a suggestion for players that we should scout in 2012 based on ‘he was a talent 10 years ago’ seems like an odd way to do business

Comment #62beermonkey- Perez does look like the best short term prospect of getting game time. We’ve needed a young talented player like him for some time and he’s one for the here and now. If you take Sammy as a player who went on loan to Boro he has not developed as a potential PL player to now seriously compete with Perez.
I would hope that Rolando can be given game time during the course of the season. At 18 then an individual development programme should be followed. Short term loans are not a problem but the likes of Armstrong should this season get to play at PL level. Given our development failure rate, we need to try something new.
Clearly Pardew has to have confidence in the players in question. Fans called for Shane Ferguson to be selected but he looked out of his depth at PL level. As I said I view the current academy crop with more optimism but they need to be handled properly.

Comment #64Kets judging by the last player you suggested I can tell straight away your getting this from fifa…. Because Denswil always ends up a top player with Juan Jesus.
So why not just go buy Christian Bonilla/ Benzia/ Bakkali/ Fischer/ Matrial/ Correa/ Alex Sandro/ and so on!

I’d hardly say he was my favourite player. I’d have liked him here, but I’m pleased he has got a decent move. A good level for him to come into the Prem at as well. Pocchetino is a decent manager and plays the game the way Dier is used to. I’d say he will be gradually introduced to Prem football and be an England first team regular by the European Championships in 2 years time.
All in all, happy for the lad.

Comment #66Lee Ryder says we are looking for 3 more players: a striker, a defender and young goalkeeper.
This seem more likely now with another young guy from Argentina coming in:

The biggest issue is that we don’t have the personnel in key roles to help these players with the transition and develop them.
Also, the loaning of players by Newcastle is quite a recent thing. We rarely loaned players out until the last 3 years. They should be going out at 17/18. Sammi and Ferg were sent out at 20. By that age they should have gained experience and be pushing the first team if good enough. As such, it isn’t something that we can judge to have been a failure so far as these are the first crop to get the full benefit.

Comment #79@Sazzer, hahaha relax! but in real, I won’t sign these players except Alphonse Areola, but it does not fit the bill because I think he’s on the rise with PSG, now loaned to Bastia. One of the future.
Again, the other three new players, if they exist, should be English players.
