Six Positives Pardew Can Take Out Of Today’s Win Over Schalke

While Schalke had most of the possession in the first half of todays game and were the better side,  it was Newcastle who were much better when they had chances to score, and goals from Manu Riviera, Rolando Aarons and Remy Cabella were enough to give the Magpies a very good 3-1 win today,  with Schalke scoring in the dying seconds of the game.

Rolando Aarons after scoring Newcastle’s second goal today
He made the first goal for Manu Riviere

Here are some of the positives Alan Pardew will no doubt take out of this game today:

  • 18 year-old Rolando Aarons had a very good game on the left wing today, and set up Riviere superbly for the first goal, and generally looked a real handful for Schalke this afternoon – and scored the second goal from what looked like to be a cross (sorry Rolando – maybe it was a shot) – but this lad must be given a run in the first team at the beginning of the season.
  • Manu Riviere showed what a powerful center-forward he can become at Newcastle, and when Aarons put the ball over to him after 18 minutes, there was still a lot to do but Manu headed the ball superbly just inside the post giving the goalkeeper no chance at all
  • Remy Cabella picked up a loose ball 10 yards outside the penalty box in the second half and made ground quickly before hitting the ball early and into the back of the net, and it was before the Schalke goalkeeper could even set himself – it was a good exhibition of how to take  a chance from our new French winger, and we are hoping to see a lot more of this great stuff from Cabella in the future
  • Alan Pardew made all of 11 changes in this game in the second half, and Newcastle still managed to play as a team and put in a good performance, even with all the changes made – and a few of our youngsters like Lubo Satka for one are looking good – and of course it looks like 18 year-old Rolando Aarons has earned a run in the first team – but it shows the lads know what is expected of them in each position when they are brought into the side
  • The reaction that the Newcastle players gave today to the poor performance yesterday – especially in that first half against Malaga – shows the character of the players – and we didn’t expect such a good win against Schalke today – but it was uplifting to see some really good play from the lads – especially in the second half, when we seemed to move the ball around very well indeed
  • And finally, the defense was much improved from yesterday, and Colo and Mike Williamson looked quite solid at the back,  and Vurnon Anita also looked more than useful at right back today

It was an uplifting performance from Newcastle today for the fans.

What do you think?

All in all i think the selected players looked more balanced today, and despite not having as much posession as them, we were more threatening than they were. I don’t give a fcuk what the usual suspects will say, we were much improved from yesterday. There was no need for the doom and gloom yesterday, and there is no need to get euphoric about today. Something to build on, and it is now well proven we need a CB.

We didn’t play great, most if the time we were in our own half defending deep and playing shite. First two goals were against run of play and we are still doomed for the coming season whilst Percy remains.

    PARDEW OUT.

Now this would be a sexy team:

    Krul

    Janmaat Alderweireld Rojo Santon

    Ben Arfa Sissoko Grenier Cabella

    Remy Riviere

    Sign:

    Rojo – £10m
    Alderweireld – £6m
    Grenier – £10m
    Remy – £8.5m

    Total – £34.5m

    Sell:

    Gutierrez – £1m
    Sammy Ameobi – £1m
    Williamson – £2m
    Steven Taylor – £2m
    Bigirimana – £1m
    Dummett – £1m
    Colback – £3m

    Net spend = £23.5m

We desperately need Grenier to replace Marveaux as we’ve lost a good player there.

If we had only 12 million left of the transfer budget (hypothetically), what would you spend it on?

a – all on proven striker eg Remy

b – 6m on CB and 6m on another striker eg Richards and Wickham

c – Fire the manager and hire a new one

WE WONT SELL COLBACK. WE JUST GOT HIM IN. Do you talk utter shite on purpose? Or does it just come naturally?

Rangers sold Boumsong within a few months. I believe some player signed for one team and then signed for another team a day later. I believe the weak links in the squad are the British players.

    REPOST

I was really disappointed with Gouffran. I expected so much more from him after some very good performances.

I thought Obertan was excellent. He worked really hard and always got back to help the defence. Another often much maligned player Williamson was cool, calm and commanding. Aarons was excellent too. Cabella was much improved and took his goal well as did Riviere with a wonderful leap.

But overall the team played really well and got stuck in with lots of energy and belief.

    Evening mate

Although reading the comments being posted on here after yesterday’s performance,I deliberately stayed off here yesterday Due to the total B@llocks that was being spouted. I truly find myself wandering why some on here are actually Nufc fans.
Yes the performance yesterday was shocking and like you say no need to carried away with today. But after one bad half all the negativity resurfaced on here yet again that just brings this blog down

    Taylor is sh!te.

Not sure we learned that today, so I understand why you didn’t include it Ed! 😉

But seriously, Pards makes some very obvious and inexplicable errors sometimes, this is what we hate about him most of all… BUT YOU CAN’T PLAY SAYLOR!!! He’s soooooooooooo bad.

Please Alan, please. I’ll give you this season if you just agree to drop him. I promise?

Well Taylor out of the team makes a hell of a difference. He’s gotta be surplus now, he’s just no good. I’d still like to see us try and keep the ball and play more fluidly but under Pardew it won’t happen.

They can be used as squad players. The players we need are:

    Rojo
    Alderweireld
    Grenier
    Remy

Scrap the Konoplyanka deal. Aaron’s has impressed me.

Obviously Rojo would be a good signing but completely unrealistic. He would improve our defence but primarily is a LB and would cost £10 million minimum so there is little point even mentioning him

Kets- did you or did you not say Marveaux had the potential to be better than Messi? That’s Lionel Messi just for clarification.

Also, what would you do if Alderweireld actually signed for us- you’ve put him in practically every post of yours for years!

We paid £10m for Coloccini. Southampton want him, however it would be money well spent. He is primarily a centre back but can play left back.

No he isn’t. But anyway it is completely irrelevant

Plus, Coloccini’s signing was a long time ago now and under completely different circumstances. Knowing that we will definitely not spend the money it isn’t even a discussion whether it would be a good signing or not

Evening buddy did ya watch the game today ??

Ive come back on tonight hoping were back to a bit of normality mate to be honest. We all know of Pardew’s pitfalls and he aint no tactical genius, But what do you say about today’s performance. can it mean Pardew learnt from yesterday and has become a tactical genius.

Simple answer no. We were shocking the first half yesterday but to be honest after the 2nd goal I fell asleep. The 2nd half we showed some attacking prowess and looked dangerous going forward.
I think Riviere is looking better than I anticipated and Cabella looks like he will quickly integrate into the team.
For me I will judge when the season is underway and as somebody put yesterday I will start the campaign with an open page

Anyone who thinks Rojo would be a possible buy for us is deluded. Rejected bid from Saints at €13m wanting at least €18m and with both Chelsea and Liverpool interested in the player we cant compete. Even IF the player wanted a move to us the current regime would not splash that kind of cash necessary to release him from Sporting.
