It may go down to the wire for Newcastle, as to whether we can get either Alexandre Lacazette or Clement Grenier in from Lyon, but maybe Ben Arfa’s potential move back to Lyon could help that effort.
Ben Arfa – could move to Lyon
Ben Arfa joined Lyon in 2002 after he graduated from the French Academy at Clairfontaine, and he was at Lyon for six years until he joined Marseilles in 2008.
And Lyon President Jean Michel Aulas has admitted today that he would be interested in bringing Ben Arfa back to the club.
This is what he had to say to RMC:
“Ben Arfa to make a return? If he is willing to make the necessary financial effort, why not?”
We’re sure that Lee Charnley and our recruitment team will be using this angle in trying to get either Clement Grenier or Alexandre Lacazette to Newcastle before the end of the transfer window – or maybe even both.
It’s along shot but possible.
Newcastle are on a roll at the moment in the transfer market, after getting Argentine striker Facundo Ferreyra in on a season long loan yesterday for £1.6M.
And as long as 20 year-old Nottingham Forest players Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow pass their medicals at Newcastle, they will become Newcastle players – probably tomorrow.
Both were at Newcastle on Monday taking their medicals, and it looks like it will cost Newcastle £7M in total for the young players, who will be loaned back to Forest for next season.
But there was news tonight that Forest manager Stuart Pearce was against the transfer and didn’t want it to happen because he thinks the value of the two players will keep going up.
And he’s probably right – so it already looks another good deal for Newcastle, with the players being ones for the future.
