The news coming through is that two Nottingham Forest players, 20 year-old central defender Jamaal Lascelles and 23 year-old goalkeeper Karl Darlow – are having their medicals at Newcastle and once they have both passed them (hopefully), Newcastle will announce their 8th and 9th signings of the summer.
Karl Darlow – 20 year-old Nottingham Forest goalkeeper
That’s after Newcastle moved quickly to sign Argentine striker Facundo Ferreyra on loan for the season yesterday, and with £6.4M Newcastle can make the deal permanent, if the 23 year-old does well in the coming season.
You cannot say that new Managing Director Lee Charnley has not been busy this summer, in what is turning out to be the best transfer window for Newcastle in over a decade.
Jamaal Lascelles – 20 year-old Nottingham Forest center-back
But there are some clarifications from last nights breaking news coming from the local Nottingham papers, and it does seem true that Newcastle will loan the players straight back to Nottingham Forest for the season, so they are definitely ones for the future.
Also the fee is a little bigger than we thought, and it seems that we are paying £7M for the two youngsters – who are both very promising players.
Both players will now get Championship football this coming season, and no doubt will be watched by Newcastle scouts to see how they are coming on.
The deal was made possible because of Stuart Pearce being the Forest manager, and the former Newcastle full-back wanted to generate some funds so he can bring in new players for the coming season.
Obviously Stuart will be hoping for a promotion place back to the Premier League next May, for a club who won the EUropean Cup twice under Brian Clough in 1979 and 1980.
Jamaal has played 36 times for the Nottingham Forest first team with three goals, and Karl already has 67 first team appearances at Forest and both look very good young players.
It also seems a sensible deal for both clubs.
