Two Players Having Medicals – Deal For £7M Total Is Imminent

The news coming through is that two Nottingham Forest players, 20 year-old central defender Jamaal Lascelles and 23 year-old goalkeeper Karl Darlow – are having their medicals at Newcastle and once they have both passed them (hopefully), Newcastle will announce their 8th and 9th signings of the summer.

Karl Darlow

Karl Darlow – 20 year-old Nottingham Forest goalkeeper

That’s after Newcastle moved quickly to sign Argentine striker Facundo Ferreyra on loan for the season yesterday, and with £6.4M Newcastle can make the deal permanent, if the 23 year-old does well in the coming season.

You cannot say that new Managing Director Lee Charnley has not been busy this summer, in what is turning out to be the best transfer window for Newcastle in over a decade.

Jamaal Lascelles

Jamaal Lascelles – 20 year-old Nottingham Forest center-back

But there are some clarifications from last nights breaking news coming from the local Nottingham papers, and it does seem true that Newcastle will loan the players straight back to Nottingham Forest for the season, so they are definitely ones for the future.

Also the fee is a little bigger than we thought, and it seems that we are paying £7M for the two youngsters – who are both very promising players.

Both players will now get Championship football this coming season, and no doubt will be watched by Newcastle scouts to see how they are coming on.

The deal was made possible because of Stuart Pearce being the Forest manager, and the former Newcastle full-back wanted to generate some funds so he can bring in new players for the coming season.

Obviously Stuart will be hoping for a promotion place back to the Premier League next May, for a club who won the EUropean Cup twice under Brian Clough in 1979 and 1980.

Jamaal has played 36 times for the Nottingham Forest first team with three goals, and Karl already has 67 first team appearances at Forest and both look very good young players.

It also seems a sensible deal for both clubs.

Psycho back in the Premier League has to be a good thing. His love of football cannot be doubted – How long is it since Forrest were last in the top division??

    Darlow is 23!

If the deal is closer to £7M it would seem Lascelles is a £5M player (or at least close to( Is he that good? or is it just another case of overpriced Brits?

Most say I don’t know much about any of them.

I would put Saylor in wheelbarrow and take him over the Tyne Bridge and dump the bugga there, quite honestly am sick of the sight of the kid, he should be in a circus, the clown.

Logic for dictates that id we are going to sign a soon to be 24 year old Champ keeper, then Elliott doesn’t have a future at NUFC? (not that I thought he had anyway)

Know Karl well as he good mates with my brother He is a talented keeper. Its a great buy for us as Arsenal and Spurs wanted him. He is a great shot stopper like Krul definitely one for the future. Its a great move for both parties. Not sure yet if hes going back to Forest for the year. Will soon find out. Its been one heck of a transfer window for us. Looks like Ashley is coming good. Still need that Remy/Ba type goalscorer tho. My money is on a Remy return.

Now Musacchio that was the defender I wanted two seasons ago when we could have had him for something like £5-6M or so. Now it seems Spurs are going to pay more twice of that 😉

Ex Army mate I supporting Forest I spoke to says Darlow looks average, decent shot stopper, terrified of crosses, but might look better in a better team? Lascalles on the other hand looks like the best defender Forest have had since Psycho himself. I haven’t watched too many Forest matches in the last couple of years, and neither player leaps out from my memories.

With this 23 year old keep being signed I think Krul will be sold next summer

He’ll be nearly 25 by the time we get him so I can’t see him coming to be 3rd choice keeper, someone will be shipped out. Krul will bring more money in then Elliott. In 2 years time both Krul & Elliott could be away with the promising young keepers climbing up the ladder & Darlow No.1.

Forest turned down a £5m bid from QPR for Lascellas, the chances are we have paid less but with Forest keeping him for this season they have saved on a loan fee, £1.6m we have paid for Ferreyra, so it is a good deal all round, Forest take slightly less but gain a good player for a season and we get him a bit cheaper but then send him out on loan as we probably would have done anyway with him being just 20 year old, so to me it is a good deal for Forest and a good deal for us, I hate to say this but with Janmaat for Debuchy plus £7m and all the other deals we have made I have to say that Ashley and Charnley have done some superb wheeling and dealing, lets hope it continues. This deal with Forest if it goes through does show a degree of professionalism which we have never seen in the Ashley era, as much as I dislike the man, credit where it’s due.

Tried to look online where is it Zamora is slagging the Toon?!?!?

Very impressed if we sign 2 youngsters from English teams its about time we sign some from the lower leagues because you do get some great players if you are quick to notice them earlier…..

Although we still need a proper CB , a play maker , a striker and a back up right back !!!

So if the CB is going back on loan, that still leaves us 1 senior CB short this term, and I doubt if the club will get one now. Unless they know something we don’t (like they found Saylor’s remote control down the side of the sofa) then I’m a bit worried about that.

MYM confirmed over the weekend that he’s just not cut out for us, Saylor’s attitude is just moronic, and the other two are good together but in their thirties. That’s a worry.
