Can someone ask Ketsbaia9 whether or not we should sign Alderwiereld?

  • 2 toonicle // Aug 5, 2014 at 9:54 PM

Cabella is looking to be worth every penny as well as Riviere, not worried about the draw but one more CB would be great.

  • 3 CisseSomething // Aug 5, 2014 at 9:55 PM

Saylor is a clown out there. Hope thats the last we see of him.

  • 4 mattnufc // Aug 5, 2014 at 9:57 PM

Who is this Alderwiereld bloke? Never heard of him

  • 5 Pendza // Aug 5, 2014 at 9:57 PM

    Little overview from ssn.

  • 6 Markaccus // Aug 5, 2014 at 9:58 PM

In a way this draw is good. It further highlights our need for a better defense. One good CB to run things and we win tonight. Instead of clowning.

  • 7 Markaccus // Aug 5, 2014 at 9:58 PM

    no idea 😀

  • 8 Thump // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:00 PM

There second goal was a gem, like. Can’t deprive them of that.

  • 9 Toon1978 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:00 PM

A CB maybe needed but tbf, the club have done great this window. Just a little worried that we seem to concede a little to often. On a positive note, we are finding the net more.

  • 10 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:06 PM

Mark….how was our defense and the balance in midfield (Sissoko and Colback)?

  • 11 NUFCJackW // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:07 PM

All you do is moan about people moaning. I knew that the first comment that you would put after the game would be that. We drew against a championship side, people arent exactly going to be all sunshine and rainbows are they ?

  • 12 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:08 PM

Great goals by Huddersfield I must say

  • 13 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:08 PM

Well if people stopped moaning on here i wouldn’t have to moan about people bloody moaning.

  • 14 santonthenewmaldini // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:11 PM

Worrying site watching Taylor on the deck out of position as the Huddersfield slots a strike into the net …..

I hope to god Pardew is seriously not thinking of playing the lad against City

  • 15 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:11 PM

Quite strange when people say sack pardew when we lose, and then jump for joy when we win, aren’t you suppose to back your manager when you win lose or draw

  • 16 bladeuser // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:12 PM

Yet again the defence is at fault good midfield good strike force joke of a defence will b punished more in the epl

  • 17 Toonfan8 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:15 PM

It is clear now we need quality CB. Willo first goal and Taylor second. We need van dijk asap. Big,strong lad.

  • 18 Beatroll25 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:15 PM

I just think that a coach like Pellegrini with players like Silva, Aguero, Nasri, Toure, Navas etc… will have field day.

All you have to do is run at 3 out of 4 of our CB’s and we are in a mess.

We might get a ‘shock’ result but I see no push for Europe whilst the defence is so weak and their leader is so poor.

Pardew to get schooled big time this season.

  • 19 Toonfan8 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:18 PM

Alan has to see that we are weak in that area. Invest in van dijk and we look far better. It has to be priority now

  • 20 kilcline // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:20 PM

Sell Saylor, championship player or someline like Burnley/Leicester – £2-3m max
Sell MYM to France – £5-6m

    Buy Richards – £6m

Swap Ben Arfa with Grenier and prob a few mill.

Don’t like Sissoko out wide but could come in for Arrons with Cabella switching to the left.

  • 21 Beatroll25 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:21 PM

    Doubt we will sign anyone.

We have been weak in that area for years. Sadly we have 4 first team CB’s on ‘purple’ wages.

We need to get rid of one or two before buying another.

  • 22 santonthenewmaldini // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:21 PM

Coming from Scotland Van Dijk looks good in the SPL Celtic got pumped in a few of the Champions League games last season and he did not look that clever …

Its easy to look great playing for Celtic when your teams budget is more than then rest of the teams in the league combined !!!

10 million for him and I could see another Boumsong situation

  • 23 VanToonMan // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:21 PM

Agree Toonfan8 – CB is a MUST. But not sure on VVD – I think Richards would be better. Solid CB and can also cover RB if DJ is injured.

We neeeed Grenier and Moussa Sow!! Then we would be awesome!

  • 24 VanToonMan // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:23 PM

Kilcline agree with that lineup with Cabella on left and Sissoko on Right but Riviere on bench and we sign Sow.

  • 25 Pottsclock // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:24 PM

Spurs got Dier. We already have dire – his name is Steven Taylor.

The only consolation is that the club clearly have been trying to get a quality CB and therefore recognise the problem. We have to hope that they will indeed get one and with the Forest lad coming at the end of the year that should be 2.

  • 26 Ashton // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:24 PM

We should spend whatever money we have on a proper CB. Forget PEA, Greiner etc…. We need a good CB. Someone like Kostas Manolas.

  • 27 santonthenewmaldini // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:25 PM

Manolas is a great little defender would imagine he would be up for signing for us as well ! Only has to pick up the phone to Nikos Dabizas for an endorsement !! 🙂

  • 28 NYMAG // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:25 PM

We are always going to concede goals with Taylor or Willow in the side. Willow works hard but he’s limited. We need a commending CB to play alongside Colo.

  • 29 VanToonMan // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:26 PM

Pottsclock where is the indication that the club recognise our CB problem and are trying to get one??

  • 30 Ashton // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:28 PM

He would be perfect for us. He will be one of the best CBs in the world.

  • 31 Beatroll25 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:29 PM

Seen as we are throwing out CB names…

    Angelo Ogbanna

  • 32 valle // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:30 PM

How did Janmaat play? And how did Sissoko play in central midfield?

  • 33 Ashton // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:32 PM

He was awful last season. His positioning is weak. Manolas has it all, He is great in the air and he is the fastest CB I’ve ever seen. And his positioning is also very good and reads the game well.

  • 34 Pottsclock // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:32 PM

I am assuming the press reporting our interest in Dier, now gone, and van Dijk is true.
In addition, why would we buy Laschelles if we didn’t want a CB?. Yes, he’ll be loaned back for a season but it clear indication of recognition that we need to strengthen that position.

  • 35 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:36 PM

So far so good with our signings especially

    Riverie 3
    De jong 2
    Cabella 2
    Perez 1

How many goals have the new Liverpool players got between them

  • 36 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:37 PM

Again a weak side schooling our defence, very very worrying. We desperately need a Vidic type to play alongside Colocinni. Big, Strong, Fairly fast and a leader with good positional play. Why on earth didn’t we grab Hangelaand on a 2 year!?!?

  • 37 hitman // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:37 PM

is there money to buy a decent cb,or do we have to sell first.

  • 38 Thump // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:39 PM

    @welsh: We haven’t got a manager. We’ve got Pardew.

  • 39 martoon // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:39 PM

When will people realise the purpose of matches like these is to gain match fitness and give as many players as possible some game time – the result is secondary. We were making mass changes in the second half which is bound to affect the stability of the team. The time to sttart panicing is if we lose several games after Man City but i’m confident we will be fine 🙂

  • 40 Toonfan8 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:40 PM

That Manolas isnt that small, he is 186 cm…bigger than Collo or Mbiwa

  • 41 Thump // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:40 PM

It is interesting that everybody is talking about Willo and Saylor – Colo had a shocker too. Honestly, we’re in serious trouble at the back.

  • 42 Tjodalf // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:40 PM

I see Ed has us up for a solid win against Real Sociedad on sunday…

  • 43 Beatroll25 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:41 PM

3 players and a decent manager away from really pushing top 4.

So near yet so far away.

  • 44 catchy in norway // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:41 PM

    don’t worry

pardew will have it all sorted, we will just play 11 behind the ball 😉

he will be the first manager sacked , the fans will be on his back from the first game

  • 45 RonVanDam // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:42 PM

QPR are set to offer striker Loic Remy a new contract after his proposed move to Liverpool collapsed. Harry Redknapp’s is hoping to convince the Frenchman to stay at Loftus Road following his return to training.

  • 46 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:42 PM

How much would it take to capture Manolas?

  • 47 dcdick // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:42 PM

Shut the door & switch off the lights on your way out of S.J.P.

    Pardew Out !!!

  • 48 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:44 PM

We might have pardew but he’s got our new players scoring, I’m not judging until the end of the season, that’s if he’s still here.

With the signings we have made he’s got no excuses, I think Ashley will get rid of him if he doesn’t do it this season.

  • 49 Beatroll25 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:44 PM

I respectfully disagree. There is another purpose for preseason and that is progression.

Under performing teams need to show they are progressing, showing that they are trying to improve on the mistakes of the last year.

We so far (tactically) look the same. Only the team sheet is different. We never learn or look to learn.

  • 50 gmb11137 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:46 PM

Also come from Scotland and work at Celtic home games i believe Van Dijk would be a quality signing, lad is strong and reads the game well. Also a strong presence from corners which we have not had in a long time.
About games in him looking poor in the champions league would have to disagree- partnering Efe Ambrose doesn’t exactly do him any justice.

  • 51 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:46 PM

    How about Loic Perrin?

  • 52 pawl250 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:47 PM

Was it Janmaat or Williamson who got turned for first goal?

Second goal was a tad lucky but first was bad defending.

Likewise to Malaga too many complaints about goals that were tad fortunate I mean 9.9 times out of 10 the first would be a goal, second was awful defending and third despite abit slow closing down was a worldy.

As for Riviere his goal against Shalke was immense but not exactly set the world alight with his two tap ins….

In reality it was the build up play that should be praised, possibly his movement/positioning but as a striker I would imagine Cisse should have been in the same place.

  • 53 Kamikaze Koala // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:47 PM

    ————BEN ARFA——–SDJ——-Cabella

I know Colo is are captain but he’s not a player we can carry anymore, and yes if that prick swallowed his pride and brought back ben arfa this team would destroy.

  • 54 Geremi's Prosthetic Leg Fund // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:47 PM

The powers that be must realise we need a quality CB and now, surely! we all see it game after game.

  • 55 Beatroll25 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:48 PM

We shouldn’t get all season. He’s had 4 years and we have stagnated somewhere between poor and mediocre.

Sadly you will likely be right a Ashley will give him until May.

  • 56 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:48 PM

Another person with sense, Christ there’s not many on here is there.

  • 57 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:51 PM

Might have been 4 Years but it’s only now he’s splashing the money, when’s the last time he’s brought in so many players in one season.

  • 58 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:52 PM

We are fine for now in terms of performance. Just CB is the area that needs to be strengthened at the moment.

  • 59 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:53 PM

Wasn’t long ago we finnished 5th, if he had the money to spend every season like this season since Finnishing 5th there wouldn’t be a problem.

  • 60 MassiveG // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:56 PM

Mate you don’t know who alderweireld is? Atletico Madrid. Far too good for us like

  • 61 kilcline // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:57 PM

I would flog Santon back to Italy, would get good money for him and could sign Richards. Dummet is ok as a back up left back and we have a youth player coming through who is mint.

Get rid of Taylor, Gateshead can have him on a free.

  • 62 Beatroll25 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:58 PM

Once upon a time I’d have launched an abusive tirade your way for your imbecilic notion and your obvious attempt at manipulating facts in order to strengthen a truly weak argument.

Luckily for you beattie25 cannot be bothered anymore fighting upstream against a tidal wave of idiocy.

So all I will do is point out that in 3 1/2 seasons Pardew has signed 20 players. Add to that the signings from this summer and it makes an impressive 29. So in 4 years he will have signed nearly 30 players (average of 7 per year) and we have not improved on the pitch one little bit.

For old times sake I will use my favorite word as I know some former posters will appreciate the sentiment.

  • 63 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 10:58 PM

What i can see is that we won’t have any problems in creating chances and scoring goals is just the defence if we don’t sort that out then I think there’s going to be games that will finnish 2-1 3-2 4-3 and that’s winning and losing.

  • 64 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:01 PM

So did you celebrate the win on Sunday then

  • 65 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:01 PM

    welshgeordie9, or 2-2, 3-3, 4-4

  • 66 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:03 PM

Get pardew sacked because we lost

Yes come on we won today pardew you’re are a legend

  • 67 bladeuser // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:05 PM

Strikers at the mo r secondry we need a top class cb or we r going to get turned over by not just the top stikers in this league but average ones really why cant pardew see this taylor willow colo r not good enough he is going to pay with his job if he plays these clowns

  • 68 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:07 PM

No more complacency Percy. Two quality centre backs and a recognised goalscorer please.

  • 69 welshgeordie9 // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:07 PM

You can say what you like i couldn’t give a rats arse

  • 70 Pizzicato The Arizona Geordie // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:08 PM

Pardew should be backed, not sacked. MA has been showing the willingness of spending this season so logically Pardew should be fine. We just need to enhance in the CB area. That’s it.

  • 71 scout // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:08 PM

Shawcross is who we need and he cant be on huge wages at the stokies

  • 72 gazzaforever // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:10 PM

@welshgeordie9, hopefully no one is upset. Up till now we are doing okay for this preseason.

  • 76 jimmyxavi // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:15 PM

We were terrible today, I know it’s a friendly so it doesn;’t amount to much but we’re so close to the start of the season and we’re playing the typical pardew way!

Within first minute, Willo had punted 2 hopeless balls up the park instead of playing it out on the deck, then for most of the game we would pass it around nicely at the back, run out of ideas when pressed and just boot it long (a couple of times we created some nice chances but few and far between)

Pardew started Cabella at LM and most of his time in that position was spent as a 2nd left back! He looked dangerous when moved into a central position!

Janmaat looks decent, susceptible of a few fouls today but he’s not fit yet!

Colback still flatters to deceive, he plays a nice game but most of it is either passing sidewards or backwards!

Overall after going to 4 pre season matches and watching two on TV, this style change Pardew talks about is still to be seen!

Move Pardew in to the role as the 2nd magpie mascot, in a game full of superstition, it’s a surprise nobody has put our cursed existence down to only have 1 magpie mascot, which is of course for sorrow – give him Pardew as a playmate – 2 for joy.

Install Ketsbaia9, our resident batshit dreamer here on the blog, as manager.

Send Saylor off to auditions for Geordie Shore, he’ll fit right in there.

    Recipe for success.

  • 84 Ian Toon // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:35 PM

Coloccini was woeful we need a dominant CB.Taylor’s arrival meant a total lack of cohesion. The defensive weakness needs to be addressed now and the Celtic CB @£8 million is the best solution. Get him in over the next few days so he can line up on Sunday.

Currently the best pairing would be Yanga andWilliamson. Coloccini has lost a yard of pace and was struggling throughout in a poor CB pairing . Please let’s offload Taylor who is an ever increasing embarrassment.

  • 85 Belfast // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:37 PM

I’m very well welshie off for a sleep now. If Beattie’s muzzle comes off RUN

  • 86 mattnufc // Aug 5, 2014 at 11:40 PM

Even more so than a defender, I’m sure the best signing would be a new manager.

Even if we win, I can’t bare to watch this piffle style which just about resembles football.

However, even if we lose, at least there is the olive branch of knowing West Ham play even worse.

  • 87 TheEPLnNBAfan // Aug 6, 2014 at 12:04 AM

Hopefully the manager will understand that we can reduce the burden of our defence by attacking and pressuring opponents.

  • 88 Our Toon // Aug 6, 2014 at 12:07 AM

Ask much as Saylor is shite why have the majority only been picking up on his error and not willo error for the first goal, I never watched the game it listened to it but read through comments…..thought Saylor was at fault for both goals until I realised he wasn’t even on the pitch when the 1st was scored

We need a CB which is priority but let’s not get carried away here, it’s a friendly…Welsh geordie for the record mate they changed there entire 11 apparently so why do you keep pointing to us not having our strongest team out!!

  • 89 NZGeordieviaAfrica // Aug 6, 2014 at 12:10 AM

mattnufc – Can you believe some people wanted us to sign my fellow “Kiwi” Winston Reid??? Have West Ham won any pre-season games?

Yes there is the solace that they play worse. I would like to see the departure of Pardew , Saylor and Collocini in that particular order

  • 90 mattnufc // Aug 6, 2014 at 12:15 AM

I don’t know much about Reid, to be honest with you. But I know more about his manager Allardyce and may he have mercy upon West Ham.

Yeah, a new manager, centre back and central midfielder and I’d be a very happy man. I know I’m dreaming, though.

  • 91 Our Toon // Aug 6, 2014 at 12:16 AM

Lads if I may, pre season for me is to gel in new signings, try out different formations and more importantly try to work towards a cohesive plan or playing method. Where are we at:

We have a poor defence and we concede to many chances, our ball retention is appalling and because of this we suffer burnout much like last season….This was evident in a few. We set up to nullify the opposition concentrating on there strengths rather than looking at ways we can hurt them. We sit back soak up pressure and try to pinch a goal, for these reasons I want pardew out….win lose or draw!!

  • 92 Our Toon // Aug 6, 2014 at 12:19 AM

Winston Reid is really good but 1 man doesn’t make a defence, it’s like saying David Luiz is really good at defending because Chelsea keep clean sheets!!!
