Newcastle Make Move For Marseilles’ Ghanaian Winger

There’s a report in L’Equipe today that Newcastle have put in a bid for Marseille winger André Ayew, who played well for Ghana in the World Cup in Brazil over the summer.

André Ayew – Marseilles’ Ghanaian International winger

Newcastle were after the 51 times capped Ghanaian International last summer, but it seemed like he was holding out for a move to Liverpool, which never materialised.

The 24-year-old is ready to leave his French club this summer, and it’s likely some big clubs will be after him, especially since he looked so good in Brazil.

This is what the 24 year-old has said about the Premier League:

“The Premier League is a league every player dreams about.¨ “The English league is the one most followed in Ghana. It’s true that I have a real preference for England.¨

“I like everything about it; the atmosphere, the game, the fans. There is a lot of intensity. It is a beautiful championship.”

There’s no chance Liverpool will come in for him this summer, which he said la year ago would be his dream move, and L’Equipe are reporting he is now considering a move to Newcastle.

Newcastle should be able to get a decent deal for the winger, and maybe a deal could be done at around £5M, especially since Marseilles are willing to sell.

Over the last four seasons – he joined Marseilles from Ghanaian club Nania in 2005 – he has played 164 games for the French club with 49 goals and 16 assists.

What do you think?

i think it was Our Toon who reviewed your team. However, i agree with his point on Kagawa, but i dont know enough about Ginkel to comment. I think your team is like Jespers in that your points will be evenly spread throughout all areas.

All very well buying the ammunition but you gotta have a gun to fire the bullets.

All these players we are buying is just glossing over that the Glazier is still here…Tactically inept and non man management skills

Ayew is awesome. Buy please buy a CB!

Actually, anyone notice we’ve left the number 5 shirt vacant, maybe that’s a hint that we’ll buy one?

Ayew is the player we need to get, he plays in many positions but is mostly very effective on the left wing, he’s a superb player and probably one of the top left wingers with a natural left but can also do wonders with his right foot.

dannitoon@1 that statement alone proves you know nowt about quality players

I don’t think we need him, however, he plays very well as part of a 3 man forward line. I agree we need defense sorting before we think about any more players.

yes we do need him, we only have 1 natural winger and that’s Obertan

    Sissoko, Tiote
    Cabella, SDJ, Ayew
this will make any team sh!t themselves.

I know many of you’s want us to get a CB in ASAP but at the end of the day we have 4 CB so if we were to bring in another CB we need to sell one and hopefully not Mbiwa, my choice would be Taylor to go since he’s utter shite

Decent player but we already have good options in his position. He is not a priority signing but at least 1 top cb in & a top quality striker need to come in as a priority!

Cannot believe people are saying we need defense over forwards.

This is the same defense that were solid start of last season, and the season we finished 5th.

Personally I think we have no strikers worthy of the title “natural goalscorers”

    We need one of them.

Clean sheets will draw you games at a minimum, goals win you games!!

We need both, but I honestly think we need both.

Centre back and a striker that can score.

Lacazette, Remy, Hernandez and Richards, Alderwield, Manolas

Problem with getting rid of taylor is that we are already on tje bare minimum home grown players otherwise id agree.

On ayew i am just not so sure that out and out wingers are important in our cirrent system. Not saying your wrong, just thinking of our other apparent priorities.

he’s an quality player mate and would do wonders with a squad we have now, last season in the French league he wasn’t surrounding by good players but seasons before that he was the talking point in the French league and even the top teams were looking at him .

in the WC he was deadly around the box and even out jumping tall defenders even though he’s not that big himself but he’s deadly in the air and has a deadly left foot.

he’s fast, strong, he can cross, pass and tackle for me this is a perfect winger

my priority at the moment is having a good set of rotation players if we have any chance in cup games

    at the moment we have

    2xRB – Santon, Janmaat

    2xLB – Haidara, Dummet

4xCM – Sissoko, Colback, Tiote, Anita

    2xAMC – Cabella, SDJ

    1xLW – Roland

    1xRW – Obertan

4x ST – Cisse, Gouffran, Riv, Loanee

no doubt Pardew will set up a 4-2-3-1 so in this case a RW and LW should be a priority, our striking option I think is OK at the moment since we have 4 and with more creativity behind the strikers I can see our current strikers banging in a few

Putting Cabella on the left to accomodate another right sided winger would be a huge mistake.
Firstly Cabella is far better on the right, it’s his natural position and he doesn’t look as comfortable on the left.
Secondly Aarons has it in him to light up the Premiership, with goals as well as assists.
I’d rather give him a fair crack at the whip than see him play a bit part like Arma did towards the end of last season.

Cabella can play wide, as can Gouffran.

    Ayew is not needed.

STaylor and Colo will get injured, its inevitable. I would personally like to see the back of STaylor and bring in Richards.

He maybe just as injury prone but the 10-20 games a season he is 10x the player STaylor is.

    Seriously STaylor is crap!

Cabella is mostly used as either an Paymaker in the middle or a inside forward on the left this is mostly were he is most effective but at the end of the day he can play all 3 positions

    Obi mikel
    Hazard
    Oscar
    Willian
    Schurrle
    Ramires
    Matic
    Salah
    Fabregas

    Where does ginkel fit in?

Me personally I would love to have this walking into start of next year.

    ———————- Krul
    Janmaat – Richards – Coloccini – Santon
    ———— Sissoko — Tiote
Cabella ——— De Jong ——— Aarons
    ————– Remy / Lacazette

Subs – Elliot, Mbiwa, Haidara, Colback, Anita, Gouffran, Riviere

That is 2 players away from a strong bench, and a strong team.

Gouffan is a forward striker this is his natural position but also plays as a inside forward on the left

we need players who can cross the ball perfect on both sides this is why Ayew is needed on the left.

how many times did Santon and Goufrran cross from the left that lead to a goal last season?

they always cut inside because this is there role.

Irrelevant of whether we believe he’s needed the fact he could be available for 5m means we should move for the guy, sissoko can hopefully return to his correct position rather than pretending he’s a winger. What wide wingers/forwards do we have:

    Gouffran
    Aarons
Cabella (although he may replace SDJ when injured)
    Sammy

Obertan isn’t good enough, HBA will never change pardums mind….who else can realistically play there rather than playing em out of position?

Also if we want to stop conceding goals the best or biggest change we should look to make is to get the attacking player to press high up and Ball Retention, the opposition can’t score without the ball however we often get caught out in this area as we go nowhere fast

We’ve been crying out for a natural left winger for ages. Ayew will give us natural width, meaning Cabella and De Jong can exploit the space given. £5 million is an absolute steal (how much Marseilles sold Valbuena for – why didn’t we come in for him?). Obviously a central defender is a priority (PLAY MWBIA AS A CB) but you aren’t gonna pass up an opportunity like this, get him over the line.

my point mate from the Shalke game, our defenders were playing a high D-line and were very effective.

but the Malaga and Huddersfield game we sat deep and look what happened.

positives for us seems negative for Pardew!
