There’s a good report in the Chronicle today that says that Alan Pardew has already had a word with a couple of our new signings – Remy Cabella and Ayoze Perez – and told them not to dive as much as they did when they were playing in their local leagues last season.
Cabella in action at Huddersfield
And it seems that both our new players are (very) quick learners, because on Tuesday night at John Smith’s stadium against Huddersfield Town, Perez was fouled with just two minutes to go – but he quickly got up to take the free kick.
Perez put Remy Cabella straight through on goal, which caught The Terriers defense out, and the Frenchman brilliantly chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to equalize and save Newcastle’s blushes – and it was very good play from both our new players.
Here’s all the goals from Tuesday night, with Cabella’s equalizer coming after 50 seconds, just in case you want to avoid having to watch the two goals we conceded 😀
When players come in from playing on the continent, they have to get used to the more physical ways of English football in the Premier League, and when they are challenged for the ball and they (naturally) go flying, they don’t always get the free-kick in England.
Remy Cabella has quickly shown how good a player he is at Newcastle, with two very well taken goals in pre-season – and both his chances were by no means easy ones, and he did really well to convert both of them.
And Ayoze scored a great goal at Sheffield Wednesday, and he looks a lot better than we thought he would be – given the lad is still only 20.
Siem De Jong is also on board, and we have brought in three good midfielders who know where the goal is, and that’s something we didn’t have earlier this year in the league, when we had to rely far too much on Loic Remy for our goals.

NUFC WTF? Team:
GK – Lionel Perez
DEF – Laurent Charvet, Marcelino, Cacapa, Carl Serrant
MID – Stephen Glass, Abadoulaye Faye, Silvio Maric, Des Hamilton
FWD – Andreas Andersson, Stéphane Guivarc’h
That isn’t even our worst 11 ever. IT’s just a WTF? team.

Comment #2Dejan Lovren once played for a team that lost 8-1 on aggregate to another side….few years later he signed for Liverpool for 20m
Vidic joined man utd from a team that conceded a lot of goals
I don’t why it matters how much the team conceded, surely it’s more about the individual and if he made errors etc.

Comment #3Players should be told not to dive but also told not to try and stay up if there has been contact .
It is the theatrics of a dive that needs cancelling out. We’ve missed out on a few penalties from being too honest.

Comment #4Pitty no one ever took Suarez to one side and suggested he might not want to sink his teeth into players’ arms any more :-p
I am glad Pardew has told them this. Despite what others might think about modern football, personally i’d rather we won relatively honestly than by diving, screaming, shedding legs like a lizard sheds its tail whenever a defender gets close et.c

Don’t think i could argue with that. I can think of other candedates but not many. Hooper in goal maybe. Daniel cardone mighy be hovering on the bench.

Our current defenders conceded 7 in one game not to long ago.
I’d take anything I can get at the minute, even Van Dijk.

Just read your review on my dream team and I must say Van Ginkel will be the new Lampard. Watch this space…

Comment #8I could make quite a few of those WTF teams. Can anybody else remember Carl Serant being played on Left Midfield, and looking brilliant, just before his injuries complely spannered him? Definately the worst full back for the toon in the Prem era though.

Comment #9Remember that one good defender is no good if your DMs and the rest of the back four suck diseased penis.
Colo is slow now, but still has good awareness and technique imo, so a big strong athletic defender would be an excellent signing, and he should learn the finer points playing alongside colo.

Comment #11Maybe they should have a word with Alan about headbutting as well.
