Siem De Jong Gets Number 10 – Squad Numbers Announced

Newcastle United have just announced their new squad numbers for the upcoming 2014/2015 season, and as expected Siem de Jong gets the number 10 shirt previously worn by Hatem Ben Arfa.

Siem de Jong – put number 10 on that shirt

Hatem Ben Arfa gets number 26 and is likely to leave the club this summer.

Midfielder Remy Cabella will wear number 20, and striker Emmanuel Riviere has a 9 in his number – number 29.

New boy Jack Colback gets number 14, Daryl Janmaat gets 22, Ayoze Perez gets a prime number – 17 – and loan signing Facundo Ferreyra gets 15.

And it’s good to see Ryan Taylor get the number 4 shirt, and we look forward to seeing Ryan back and fully fit again after his terrible double ACL injury – and Ryan will start full training next month.

Here is the full squad list:

1 Tim Krul
2 Fabricio Coloccini

Good to see aarons get a decent number, and at least ben arfa actually has a squad number. Like how numbers 5 and 12 are free 😀

I think there’s something unnoticed. Mbabu gets a number while he never appeared for the first team at all.

I am dreaming that Dick Van Dyke got the number 5 and Lacazette number 99 (or 12).

Janmaat should have been given the number 5. Since colo likes to have a FB number, janmaat should have taken the spare CB number. The no 4 should be used on a new CB. I know i sound a bit OCD but im like this on footy games too when i alocate squad numbers!

I think Charnley has done a very good job so far in getting the deals done. Obviously he is going with Carr’s recommendations so I’d imagine they have got a good understanding with each other.

Another real goal scorer and centre half and there should be no more excuses added by Pinocchio although I’m sure he’ll great some new ones. New lights on the stadium could be one, or a tough pre-season.’

These players will still be mentally capable from their previous clubs, so their freshness and new club novelty will carry them through for a while. After that wears off and our tactics sink in, it may not be as much of an enjoyment for them to play football.

    Hatem in, Pardew out.

Markaccus if you’re being OCD wouldn’t 5 be better on a new CB and 4 for Janmaat?

TBH I’m not that bothered by numbering but do take an interest and am offended Cisse is 9 still. He’s such a donkey.

    Potential free numbers then:
    3 Santon
    7 Sissoko
    18 Jonas
    25 Obertan
    26 HBA

If Cisse had been given no.12 and the 9 shirt was available, that would be a HUGE message!

Don’t forget no 5 was Danny Simpson’s number a while ago and no one used that since. Janmaat being number 5 would make sense.

… but are those choices of players ultimately?

And Janmaat could have asked for a 2, but it’s not available so he went for 22.

Not much to read into this beyond some expectation of a CB and one other. And that Benny really has pissed on the club’s firework one time too many.

There are players in there that could/should be sent out on a season long loan, why waste a squad number on them?

aye i suppose that would be better. The other thing is, in the past, no.4 has been used for a MF at NUFC. Cabaye, nobby solano and Nolan spring to mind.

    Jeff,
When there is clear definition of what a real fan is you can maybe start calling people fake, and on the sad bit, I think offering to do violence to those that disagree with you makes you the saddest person on here.

Number 4 is a midfield number:

Traditionally is was for the Right Half Back (or Right sided defensive midfield).

The modern template for shirt numbering (although most teams have different for personal reasons/timing etc etc) is:

    1 GK
    2 RB
    3 LB
    4 CM
    5 CB
    6 CB
    7 RM
    8 CM
    9 CF
    10 CF
    11 LM
