Newcastle Still Have Opportunities To Sign More Players

Newcastle may have to wait until the last week of the transfer window, when things start to finally sort themselves out, but the Magpies  will have opportunities to sign more players before September comes around.

Arsenal striker Joel Campbell – loan deal?

Newcastle still have some players we are after and here’s the situation at the moment with each one:

  • Alexandre Lacazette – seems to be our number on striker target, but we don’t believe a fee has been agreed with Lyon, even though reports are continuing to come out saying a whopping £15M fee has been agreed. Alexandre wants to join a Champions League club but he could settle for Newcastle late in the window
  • Loic Remy – will be asking himself whether he wants to stay at QPR for next season as September approaches, and after playing in front of 52,000 home crowds at Newcastle he may opt for Newcastle if a bigger club doesn’t come in for him – but he is not Newcastle’s top target these days
  • Andre Ayew, – is a Ghanaian International winger who would do well at Newcastle, although he has his heart set on joining Liverpool, but he could consider joining Newcastle permanently before the end of the transfer window, if Liverpool or some other big club doesn’t coma after him
  • Joel Campbell – it’s still possible that Newcastle could get the Costa Rican striker in on loan from Arsenal. and there’s a report in the Chronicle today that in fact that seems like a decent possibility, with Arsene Wenger wanting his 22 year-old striker to get some experience in the Premier League
  • Virgil van Dijk – if the news is to be believed over the last day or so, Newcastle will only bring in another defender if a current defender – such as Steven Taylor or Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – leave the club. So if that happens we could see a late bid from Newcastle for the Dutchman – but it’s not looking good at the moment. We had hoped the club would have shown more ambition and snapped this lad up for £8M
  • Clement Grenier – Newcastle have still not replaced Yohan Cabaye with a central midfield play-maker, and we went after this lad in January, and it seems he would be happy enough to come to Tyneside – but only if Newcastle and Lyon can agree on a decent fee for the French International

And of course we could always get a signing out of the blue, of a player we didn’t even realize Newcastle were after – that’s always possible.

Are you what remains of the legendary Ruddy Marveaux-lous?

Whilst I don’t agree with what has been said there I must say that a better manager would be able to not only get better results for the club with the owners business model, but also would be able to get better results for the chairman’s business model.

I’m sure Ashley’s plan 4 years ago when we signed Ben Arfa for £6 million was to sell him on in the future for £30 million. Now it looks like he will fetch 3.

Now whilst I don’t want fat boy here it is no illusion to say that a better manager would have got the best out of Ben Arfa, got NUFC higher up the table and made Ashley more money.

Big Mike’s model is failing becuase of one thing, Pardew. As a model for business it does work, as it does on a lesser scale all over Europe.

Sadly trust issues, lies, foolishness, greed and all round bastardry makes Ashley a poison that needs cleaning out of this fine club.

A few transfers don’t make me think any different but in my opinion with Pardew nobody wins, not really.

Yes Mike gets money but he should have made a lot more by now.

For every Cabaye there is a Sylvain. Tiote was worth £25 million 2 years ago now we’d be lucky to get £8 million. Every where you look these players are failing to reach their potential.

Pardew will go. Not because of the rubbish football, the poor resukts or the misconduct, but for the simple fact that Ashley’s investments aren’t paying off.

Yes he has merchandise, yes he has TV money but what he really wants is to be able to buy low sell high as you say. At the moment only 2 players have been able to make a big return from the 29 signings he has made with Pards in charge and I don’t think M’bwia, Anita, Santon, Gouffran etc… are close to tripling in value anytime soon with Pards here.

Ashley is a cancer and won’t likely spend another penny for the next 2 seasons again. But with the talent in our squad we all should be seeing much more return for our money.

I know how you love pardew but it is strange how you don’t mention how Cabaye played in 5 losses out of 7 just before he left.

So saying we were a one man team doesn’t do pardew any favours as it just further emphasises his shortcomings in finding a plan B and using, rather than alienating certain players.

    Completely uncalled for.

    Beattie

Yes, you could describe me as the remnants of the now retired Ruddy Marveaux-lous haha

I don’t disagree with the view that a better manager would get more out of the players at his disposal, what I take issue with is that even with a better manager, Ashley would still maintain this policy of flogging players when they have proven they are worthy of a profit, to then replace them with unproven cheaper alternatives – even with a better manager, there is no semblance of squad building.

We may see better football, and we may finish a bit higher up the table, but there is no ambition to truly crack the top 6 which is where we should be aiming for year in year out.

Ashley’s mistakes, lies and ‘bastardry’ will ensure that a significant amount of Newcastle United fans will never forgive him, and I for one am in that bracket.

This shambles that operates under the masquerade of NUFC is not going to be on the receiving end of my ire this season because it is not the club I once supported. When this club returns, I will put all my emotional, financial and intellectual investment back into the club, but not a second before Ashley leaves.

And yes, feel free to tear Jeff to shreds with that barbarous tongue of yours!

“We have a professionalism and a level of commitment to our work that he needs to fall into and until he falls into that he won’t be part of the first team. He isn’t at the moment and he’s injured today, ironically, but he’s still part of the club.”

That was last week could he still be carrying a knock? Surely not every action can be cloak and dagger!

I see Campbell has gone to Fleetwood on a month loan deal. Hope he gets some game time, but a bit odd just sending him for a month. He needs an extended run somewhere, not a month here and there. Unless it is a contingency plan if nobody else comes in.

I imagine if HBA is left out of tonights match it is most likely that someone has come in for him. Doubt it is Everton though, it seems their loan deal for Atsu is back on.

Aye saw there deal with Atsu is back on which means they must if given Chelsea some assurances about the lad having big first team opportunities which is why the deal initially stalled

Martinez also said that he only wanted one more player, doubt there cash rich after the fee involved for Lukaku either and can’t see HBA going there to warm another bench

Did you see Perez’s brother has signed for Blythe?

I seriously doubt Adam Campbell’s ability to be a top flight player. He went on loan to a mediocre league in the SPL and had a less than sterling scoring record. This is a league where Conor Newton was pivotal, and while he is now a Championship player, Campbell had nowhere near the same impact in that league.

    Ciaran,

MA has sold three players for big money. AC, Cabaye and Debuchy.

Looking back, would you have kept AC with £35 million being offered?
Would you have refused Cabaye his “dream move” to PSG? I rated Cabaye greatly. You don’t find a combination of a hard tackling midfielder with a creative side every day. But there were quite a few periods when Cabaye was off-form. At the beginning of last season, he was motivated by the WC, and getting in the squad.
So, the question is – do you think Cabaye would have shown his best form after the WC if we had refused him his dream move?
Debuchy – we got good money and, assuming Janmaat continues to show he is a good player, at a fraction of the Debucky transfer fee, is that not good business? Again, what would have been the likely effect on Debuchy had we refused him a move to a CL team, especially as, at his age, it would surely have been his last chance.

My point really is that the overall effect of selling these players has been positive for the Club.
And Yes, of course I would like to have seen more of the AC money invested, and sooner.
