Newcastle’s number one striker targets right now are 23 year-old Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette followed by 27 year-old Loic Remy, but Newcastle may have to switch their targets if they want to ensure another striker is brought in this summer.
Joel Campbell – could be available to Newcastle
Arsene Wenger seems to still be deciding whether he should keep Joel Campbell at Arsenal this season, but there has been news that he may decide to loan Joel out on loan to a Premier League club so he gets some Premier League experience.
The Chronicle has reported that Wenger may offer Newcastle their Costa Rican International striker on a loan deal – but that the loan fee may be too high.
Newcastle already have Argentine striker Facundo Ferreyra on loan for the season and we paid Shakhtar Donetsk €2M – £1.6M – for that loan deal.
So we wouldn’t expect Joel Campbell to cost more than say £2M for the season loan, and Newcastle still have plenty of money available this summer – if they want to spend some of it.
Campbell has also been sent out on loan for each of the last three seasons to Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos.
If we include the two Nottingham Forest players for around £7M – then Newcastle have spent about £35M in this summer’s transfer window in bringing in nine players, and we have received £32M this calendar year for French Internationals Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy.
So this calendar year we have spent a net of £3M – and our estimates for Newcastle’s last financial year to the end of the June are that we could make around £135M in revenue and over £50M in profits – so as we said Newcastle have money to spend.
But this could come down to the last few days of the transfer window, as to whether Newcastle can get Lacazette or Remy through the door, and if we cannot then Newcastle could strike a deal for Joel Campbell on loan for the season.
That wouldn’t be bad deal for the Magpies.
