What’s Newcastle’s Best Team For Manchester City?

Newcastle put in a good workmanlike performance against Real Sociedad today and deserved the win, which came from a good Moussa Sissoko late goal – but it was that man Gabby Obertan who showed some classic wing play on the right to set up the goal.

alan pardew sociedad

Alan Pardew at St. James’ Park today

Gabby has been in the best form we have seen him in at Newcastle in pre-season, but he could be sold in this transfer window if a club comes in with the £3M Newcastle want for him to get their money back.

We would like to see Gabby stay and be used and given games this season, but he has to become a much more consistent player.

As far as Newcastle’s best team goes for Sunday, it looks fairly obvious the defense that started this game and the game at Huddersfield will also start against Manchester City.

That’s Krul, Janmaat, Coloccini, Williamson and Haidara.

And then it depends on what formation Alan Pardew will play against City and what the associated game plan is.

But in the corresponding game last January, when we were beaten 2-0 after having a perfectly great Cheick Tiote goal disallowed, Alan showed he can put together some excellent game plans – which he did for most of the first half of last season.

And with there being considerable pressure on Alan to produce this season, especially in the early games – he will be motivated to get the game plan absolutely right for next Sunday.

If he goes in what seems to be a well used formation of 4-2-3-1 he could field the following side:

Krul
Janmaat, Coloccini, Williamson, Haidara
Colback, Anita,
Sissoko, De Jong, Cabella
Riviere

We are assuming that Check Tiote will not be fit – and if Siem de Jong doesn’t make it on Sunday,  then Yoan Gouffran or even Facundo Ferreyra could play the withdrawn striker role.

What team and in what formation would your team be for Sunday?

One thing is for certain – the bench will look strong on Sunday, and Rolando Aarons must at least make the bench, because he was a threat when he came on for Gouffran in the second half today, and this lad can create chances with those mazy runs and good crosses from the left wing.

It should be a good game next Sunday, and Newcastle are in with a decent chance of getting something out of the game.

What do you think?

Maybe Pardew is lying to us about De Jongs injury 😉
Couple of years ago he said that HBA was out of the first game of the season vs spurs but not only did he end up playing..he also scored the winning goal 😀

It’s going to be a great year for Nufc I just have a gut feeling that everything is coming together.

Like any money Sissoko has a brilliant season playing through the center because that’s where he should have been all along. He is a box to box CM and a beast of one on that.

Go get Sissoko in your Fanasty prem team lads im telling you.

    I agree about Gouffran.

This game had friendly written all over it. Wouldn’t have been surprised if we let them score to equalise because they were our guests. You can’t take much at all from it.

Can’t see Aaron’s and Cabella on the pitch at the same time. Very lightweight the pair of them and will be tested early I’d suggest in the rough and tumble of the premier league. It won’t be long till a match hardened fullback kicks seven bells out of one or both of them, possibly inside a week.

I’ve not seen De Jong yet but we don’t half miss Cabaye. Cabella did nothing today either. I fear we will struggle.

Not a chance we will struggle this season… De Jong is something Special… Cabella looks class and it will take him a while to full adapt to the PL before we see the best of him.

There is so many different options for the team this year. We can pritty much play every formation with the team we have now including 3-5-2/ 5-3-2 witch we couldn’t have done befor because we had’t got the right players for it.

Santon, Tiote, De Jong, and Cisse can make an enormous difference. They are, I think, on their day extremely good and I agree we need Cisse to step up and there is a clear path for him to do it, where in the past Remy and Ba have been the main men who’ve stood in his way, he is now clearly the senior striker.

The players will play the initial games without the faded form and cohesion which will come from being Pardewed later on once they realise the tactics are just to be cautious and not lose the game.

Without any coaching from the silver-tongued slimeball, there will automatically be an improvement as the new players are still bringing with them their previous club’s form and a fresh incentive to do well. Don’t confuse the two.

Plus, the fact that our standards of 14 wins in 20 are so low, even 4 or 5 successful passes in the opposition half will look like an improvement, when really it isn’t even average.

I think today’s game was a little restrained as neither team would have wanted to pick up any serious injuries with only a week to kick off.

    against Man Sh!tty at home!

Pardew will play a 4-2-3-1 on the deep and on the counter, he will have no idea how to attack Man Sh!tty.

but what Pardew should take from yesterdays game is the amount the pressing and closing down the lads did during the game.

then add a higher D-line, choose either a 4-3-1-2 or a 4-1-2-1-2 and attack and there you have it.

    VICTORY

Pardew keeps persistence in using either a 4-4-2 or a 4-2-3-1 wide.

this is just f@cking stupid by all means, we have no wingers to make an impact.

you’s want creativity from the midfield use SDJ, Cabella & Sissoko as AMC’s using a narrow 4-2-3-1.

    it’s just that simple!?

We will need players out wide to counter the attacking threat of the City full backs. They like to get Kolarov and Zabaleta forward supporting the attack.

It is a good call putting Obertan in on the right and I would start Aarons on the left. Both have lightening pace and capable of tracking back. Their pace should force both City full backs to curb their attacking instincts especially if you also factor in the pace of Riviere snd Cabella too.

You might laugh at this but I am going for a hard fought 1-0 win to us. Riviere to get the winner.
