Better News On Newcastle’s Injury Front

7:15 pm, Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 81 Comments

Alan Pardew discussed a number of things in his Sky Sports news interview at St. James’ Park today, and he even seemed hopefully of both Siem de Jong and Cheick being fit for the game next Sunday at home to Manchester City.

Oldham Athletic v Newcastle United - Pre Season Friendly

Siem de Jong – could be fit for Manchester City

Alan said he would be disappointed if both were not fit to play – and bother were said to be running well today.

This is the last few sentences of Alan’s interview with Sky Sports today:

“I think your first home game you’d like to win it, and it makes it difficult when it’s the Champions, but we’re in great shape, we couldn’t be in better shape for it in terms of pre-season outside of Siem and Cheick.

¨Whether they’re going to be available – we’d be disappointed if they were not, but they’re running well today, so they could be available, and make myself an easy job for me to pick my strongest team.¨

¨But we’ll have to see – whatever happens this place will be full up – the expectation will be there again as it always is at Newcastle, and we hope to put on a show that shows the footballing world and particularly the Premier League and that we are going to be a force this year.¨

Let’s hope Alan and his coaching staff put together a good game plan for this game – and certainly in this fixture last season last January, Newcastle played some great stuff, and should have got something out of the game after a fabulous Cheick Tiote had been wrongfully disallowed in the first half which would have made it 1-1, but a late goal gave City a 2-0 win.

Maybe we can do better this time, and even get our first win in the last 15 games against City?

Comments welcome.

Looks like we won’t be signing any more players until January now.

  • 2 toonicle // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:22 PM

Would still like to see a CB come in, then i’d be okay with seeing how it plays out till January.

  • 3 Ibizatoon // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:26 PM

Appreciate I’m a little late, but Ed, thanks for the 2nd of August update. Great news! Way to show that nasty C who is boss.

  • 4 G // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:27 PM

I think our lads will be up for the match, I think we might even just snatch it 1 nil? Of course citeh still have the best squsd in the prem and want to upset united. I will just be happy if our lads give them a game.

  • 5 lesh // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:27 PM

“I think your first home game you’d like to win it” said Mr Pardew.

Oh really, is that what supposed to try to do – win games?

Now there’s a good idea – I wonder if it’ll catch on with the players too!

  • 6 cestriasteve // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:30 PM

    From the previous post

48 points is a success! As much as it kills me to say it we are in the tier behind Everton and spurs, we are competing with the likes if Stoke!!

    FFS that’s depressing!!

  • 7 welshgeordie9 // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:32 PM

If tiote leaves will he be replaced

  • 8 lesh // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:32 PM

And so he goes on (“we hope to put on a show that shows the footballing world and particularly the Premier League and that we are going to be a force this year.”

There now and I bet Van Gaal, Pelligrini and Jose are quaking in their shoes.

Ibiza….. Ed’s an ex Manor Park lad and as such, as tough as owld boots!

    with a french loaf?

  • 10 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:33 PM

Evening mates. Thought I would do a comparison of us against another club I see as mediocre, i.e. mid table or lower, Stoke City. Here is a possible starting XI for them and us:
Begovic——- vs——–Krul— a draw here, both seasoned decent keepers
    Bardsley——-vs——–Janmaat— we win this one
Pieters———-vs——–Haidara—– this one to Stoke on experience
    Shawcross—–vs——–Willo—— Stoke again
    Huth————-vs———Colo—————Stoke
    Nzonzi———-vs———-Gouffy——-the edge to us
    Sidwell———-vs——–Tiote————the edge to us
    Adam————vs Sissoko——-the edge to us
    Bojan———–vs———-SdJ———-Stoke
Crouch———vs——— Riviere——-Stoke early on in the season
    Arnautovic—–vs———Ferreyra—-Stoke early on
I see Stoke with a better starting 11 and they are a mid table team. Their bench is slightly better as well. We will improve as the new players bed in but then injuries will take their toll. Stoke to finish above us.

    welshgeordie9

Of course Tiote’ll be replaced…. Sometime!

  • 12 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:37 PM

Calm down lads. Nobody is that interested in Tiote. He won’t bring enough dosh to be worth selling for Mike. He’ll stay with us at least another season as beermonkey has already said.

  • 13 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:41 PM

I expect beermonkey to pee in Pardew’s back pocket by about the fifth or sixth game of the season as we struggle. Huzzah!!!

  • 14 Ibizatoon // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:42 PM

    Lesh…That he is.

So, we’re on all high alert as Tiote may be off? Come on now lads, Ash must be sweating it in case we go bankrupt after his recent spending spree.

  • 15 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:43 PM

There be hard times ahead mateys!!! Arrggghhh!!!

  • 16 Williamson is Bramble in disguise // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:43 PM

GeordieTwo – I like to see a fan looking at things from both sides, however id have Santon over Pieters any day of the week, to say sidwells better than Tiote is madness, and id of had Cabella and Ben arfa if Pardinho would play him in ahead of Gouff and Riviere, both of which id say were miles ahead of N’Zonzi and Crouch, and personally think you underestimate Ferreyra.

  • 17 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:45 PM

Ibiza mate you’re a hard man to locate. Ms Nubbins is still upset with you. I’m having to give her a week off with pay!!! Harrumph!!! And the chest hair sales have been terrible. I may have to speak to jesper about you. Unbelievable.

  • 18 DokToon // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:47 PM

so, what do we see the lineup being for sunday?

  • 19 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:48 PM

I hope you’re right WillyisBram mate. I’m not sure yet but usually players take a while to bed in. Tiote is a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde as well. Which will turn up? The turnover specialist or the attack destroyer? You’ll note I gave the edge to us with Gouffy? He can disappear at times but normally a tremendous work rate if Pards doesn’t destroy his confidence.

  • 20 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:49 PM

Just saw us predicted to finish 8th. Not going to happen unless we get a very good striker and a very good CB.

  • 21 geordie157 // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:50 PM

    Campbell’s sub again for Fleetwood.

Out of the recently departed, tav starts and Newton is on the bench.

I can’t help but check to see how our old players do.

  • 22 geordie157 // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:52 PM

Not sure how much Southampton offered for byram but we should go for him and loan him back for the season.

  • 23 Ibizatoon // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:55 PM

G2…What can I say, it’s summer in Ibiza.

Mind, I’d have a word with Ms Nubbins…seems she’s taken to the white isle during this paid down time. Surely she should be resting.

Alan…To be fair, you should know, not think, that you’d like to win your first game. I’ll take it a little further…we’d like to win most of our home games. Anyway, I leave that in your capable hands good chap…an easy start against Man City…Pardew must have p*ss*d someone right off.

  • 24 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:55 PM

Dok mate Pards will try to play a defensive game (of course, it’s Pards we’re talking about) against Man City. I see it as this:
    Krul
    Janmaat—-Willo—-Colo——Haidara
    Colback——Tiote
    Gouffy——-SdJ (if fit)——-Cabella
    ——————-Riviere

  • 25 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 7:58 PM

You’re not saying Ms. Nubbins is working as a drug mule again on her time off are you Stud Muffin? This will not stand! I may have to come over there and chastise her. Harrumph!

  • 26 Ibizatoon // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:03 PM

G2….Now I would never suggest that. She is simply going on holiday with a suitcase she’d rather wasn’t inspected whilst going across foreign borders.

Something to do with Spain’s tight policies on chest hair and wanting their 21% of any €7 sales of merchandise.

  • 27 dannitoon // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:05 PM

Damn never read so much crap by 1 poster… Geordie two…..

  • 28 scout // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:06 PM

That post saying stoke have a better 11. Funniest think I have ever read, they’re absolutley terrible.
We finish above them all day long

  • 29 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:08 PM

Hmmm. Well, this has me in a tizzy now Ibiza mate. I thought she was visiting her dear old granny! Who can you trust these days? We’ve got Mike and Alan in charge of wor club and privateers and adventure seekers on the loose elsewhere. And I’m not sure what you and jesper are up to either.

  • 30 scout // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:08 PM

    Adam v sissoko

    Steptoes horse v frankel

    biggest miss match ever ffs

  • 31 Ibizatoon // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:10 PM

danni…Who is Damn and can’t he speak for himself?

Scout…Who said that? Still, not sure I’d say we’ll finish above them all day long mate.

  • 32 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:10 PM

Scout, have you been massaging your own nipples again mate? Come down out of the clouds and take a look a wor club. We have no decent CB except Colo when he’s up to it and not injured. We have no proven striker. We have Alan Pardew as our manager. Need I say more? Harrumph!

  • 33 Ibizatoon // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:12 PM

G2…Looks like you may well have lost control over this thing. You need to act fast. Ashley would never let things get to this state. You best get on the phone to Joe, that’s what Mike would do.

  • 34 tequilamag // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:14 PM

Not sure why everyone has been working themselves into a frenzy about Tiote being transferred. The story comes from the ever reliable Lee Ryder who also reported Sturat Pearce was doing us a favour with the 2 forest players.
These stories without any named sources come out of nowhere and fade away. The papers had the mercurial one of to Everton the other day. It`s all just filler stories. Tiote had a long interview published on Saturday saying the squad was better than the fifth placed season squad and he was really looking forward to the new season. That may be BS but is a more believable than Lee Ryder and his “it is understood ” or “it is thought” fairy stories.

  • 35 scout // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:14 PM

Focus on what we have got and dont be such a miserable moany git lol

massaging my nipples are you a professional bore or is it just a hobby.

Getting bored with people rubbishing AP.

  • 36 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:15 PM

Dohhhh!!!! Arrgghhhh!!! I just can’t believe it. People saying we’re a solid top 8 side. People not buying chest hair!!! Ms. Nubbins run off again! Jesper unheard from. Ibiza lazing on a beach eating shrimp sannies! Scout misbehaving. Dok Toon not responding to my lovely lineup. Unbelievable.

  • 37 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:17 PM

Now, now scouty. Are we cranky today? Mam not fix us wor pablum? Sounds like you’re a bit tetchy to say the least. Ah well cheer up lad. I hope we play well but teams with serious ambition make sure the have decent CB’s and strikers.

  • 38 scout // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:17 PM

    Would say solid top 10.

  • 39 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:18 PM

  • 40 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:19 PM

Good post tequila @34. Interesting comments from Tiote. Still the test will come on Sunday won’t it? How solid are we at the back? How many goals in us?

  • 41 scout // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:19 PM

  • 43 tequilamag // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:22 PM

G2well Aquero is doubtful and Negredo is out so I only see us conceding 3. Depends if De Jong toe is feeling better, if so we should get 4 or 5

  • 44 BOOM BOOM THE 1ST // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:23 PM

I get the feeling this Tiote story is a bit of a red herring. “We didnt sign a new striker or cb but we didnt lose cheik so its not too bad”.

  • 45 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:25 PM

Interesting tequla. I think we concede 3 and score none. To start against Man City, even out of sorts is a bit harsh. They will play ball control and trap us in our own half for most of it. A lesson for Pards but one he will never learn I’m afraid. You should have stepped down in the off season Alan.

  • 46 scout // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:25 PM

    Krul
    jammat colo willo hiadara
    Sissoko tiote colback cabella
    De jong
    The river

  • 47 GeordieTwo // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:26 PM

It’s all right scout. I get cranky as well mate. It’s caused mainly by Big Mike, Satan’s Hatchling.

  • 48 tequilamag // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:28 PM

BOOM BOOM, god that`s loud. The story was broke by Ryder in the banned Chronicle. He was Ashley man through and through, you just have to see the disgraceful way he defended the Wonga deal till they fell out of Ciarans million march on SJP. These days he is out in the cold The story is probably a load of tosh but not for the reason you suggest

  • 49 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:31 PM

10th not good enough. We should be aiming for the Champions League or top 6 every season. We’re not far off. We just need Remy, Grenier and Alderweireld to compete. We’ll struggle with Willo at the back. He’ll make a few errors against city. We must keep Ben Arfa too.

  • 50 tequilamag // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:33 PM

G2 in all honestly it is almost impossible for me to call. I actually think in many ways it is a good time to play them. They will have a few players out and it is a clean sheet for both teams. The crowd will be up for it,the players spirits should be ok.
Having said that on paper we stand little chance, they have a much better team than us.

  • 51 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:34 PM

I suppose we’ve done well in the transfer market to say that we only need 3/4 players to have an incredible squad.

  • 52 toon kk // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:35 PM

I can’t see any more new signings in this transfer window, Riviere is classed as Remy’s replacement, so that rules out a top striker and Mash has spent his quoter for a couple of seasons.
I can see Riviere getting us plenty of goals he looks class tbo, let’s hope so anyway.

  • 53 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:35 PM

If we can get it down to 2, then we have a chance. I’m pleased Abied is still here. I could tell that he was miles better than Gosling etc. He’s got everything, but needs to be played further up field. He’s an attacking midfielder. He scored 10 goals last season.

  • 54 Williamson is Bramble in disguise // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:37 PM

tequilamag, you forget we have colo and willo as centerbacks, I fully expect a hiding and everything coming back down to earth!

For what it’s worth this is the team I’d play against city, not that Pardew will…

    ———————-Krul——————
    Jamaat——M’biwa—–Willo—–Santon
    ————–Anita———Tiote————-
    ———————Sissoko——————-
    Ben Arfa—–De jong (False 9)—-Cabella

Obviously this isn’t going to happen, and Tiote and De jong would be replaced with Colbeck/Bigi & Ferreyre, but just my thoughts on our best team at this point, although id be happy with Ferreyra up top, with De jong in the advanced midfield position and socks in for Anita at DM. And as for Ben Arfa, would love to see it, but Gouff as the realistic choice.

  • 55 hitman // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:41 PM

imo i think the season will start falling appart when we start getting injuries to key players,we should of went all out for a cb and a striker.

  • 56 tequilamag // Aug 12, 2014 at 8:45 PM

3 things we have learned this week and every week for the last 2 months.
We need a new CH and Striiker.
There is no limit to the amount of times Pardew can be described as Cra@p
There is no end to the HBA love him or sell the lazy sod saga.

    Krul
    Janmaat Mbiwa Colloccini Haidara
    Sissoko. Tiote

    Rivière

    Or given HBA situation
    Colback Tiote
    Cabella. Sissoko. Rivière
De Jong. With Aaron’s to come on
