Official – Newcastle One Of Strongest Teams In England

Shola Ameobi has finally been linked up with a club for next season, and he has just signed a one year deal at Turkish second division club Gaziantep Buyuksehir Belediyespor – try pronouncing that.

shola ameobi nigerian colors

Shola Ameobi – in action for Nigeria

Shola played 397 games with 79 goals for Newcastle United over fifteen seasons, after the great Sir Bobby Robson gave the then 18 year-old his debut against Chelsea in September of 2000, when Alan Shearer was out injured for quite a few months.

The Turkish club has released a press statement about the move, and about Newcastle United – this is what it says:

“We want to establish an ambitious team in the league this season, and a strong team continues to strengthen by adding players.”

“We have therefore tied Nigerian striker Shola Ameobi – from one of the strongest teams in England, Newcastle United – to us for one year.”

That’s a nice way to pat yourself on the back.

And we suppose that makes it official – Newcastle are one of the strongest teams in England. 😀

It’s a step down for Shola from the Premier League, but at least he’ll get some games and he could even have a decent season.

We think Shola will play one or two more seasons before retiring, and he could then sign on as a youth team coach at Newcastle – and that would be very likely if Alan Pardew is still the Newcastle manager.

Fans have their own views about Shola, and he never did fulfill his promise as a youngster – but he was a faithful servant to his home town club and it would be great if he comes back as a coach.

It’s safe to say players like him should be asked to press high up the pitch rather than tracking back and occupying a place on the wing….to sit in and defend. On the continent they prefer the pressing style as following players and occupying positions just leads to disaster.

Having said that though surely the fact he hardly featured in the 2nd half of the season except from the bench is an indicator that he wasn’t the actual issue and it was the bullshit tactics.

DC Dick form last topic – I would rather have Pardew than Gordon Lee, Richard Dinnis or Bill McGarry – yes there have been worse managers.

They’re saying £8million. That can’t be anywhere close to his valuation right?! At 28yo, good prem exp, peak of his career!

    I’d think near £15million.

pardew cant manage class players.HBA is well above his level of mamagement. what a shame benny has to go and pardew ( this inept and disgraceful excuse of a manager) stays. Where is the justice in football these days ? class leave while the scum stay . very sad.

it may well be but then again we do know the policy which is buy them young so we can cash in at a later stage, he is now 28 years old so there isn’t that much time left for the club to cash him in so it does sort of make sense, hope I’m wrong as we have done some good business this summer, we haven’t spent anything but still done some good business, selling Tiote would undo all that good work as he is the one player who we must keep a hold of.

Tiote is 28yrs old now so it’s the best time to sell if they want a decent fee for him.Either this window or January he’s gone IMO.

    From T.O.T.T

Pardew would prove himself a bigger man if he resolved the dispute and got Ben Arfa fit and fighting for the cause again.

That is the art of top level management.

I’ve heard £8 – £12m mentioned, but like yourself I feel we should demand £15m minimum, but the truth is that we need him, we still have millions from the sky payment so we don’t need to sell, keep him and give the manager a chance to build a decent squad, god I wish this oaf would just bugger off as far away as possible.

I agree that Tiote is 28 now and normally the time we sell players on, but the fact he has been made vice captain means the club wants to keep him and as far as I have seen so far the have been no comments from Tiote to say he wants to go!?!?!?!?!?

It must be worrying for Ash that his ”invesmtents” are losing so much value under pardew.

A couple of years back Ben Arfa was being talked about as a 20M player and Tiote was linked to Chelsea and United at around the £15M mark.

We’d be lucky to get anything like that for either of them now.

Nothing really wrong with the model of buy young and sell at their peak. Dortmund and others do it all the time. It’s the ”development ” phase that seems to have gone awry with a fair few of our ”next big things.”

    Tiote
Had a chat with someone in the club at the weekend It is not that he wants to leave – but at the age of 28 if a club comes in and offers him a large pay packet for what he sees is not many years left at the top he will take it. It is not for himself but to send back to the Ivory Coast where a lot of his friends and family where he came from live in poverty.
    From same source
HBA he has got very little chance of getting back in the good books as he is not the best liked by a lot of the players down to his attitude on and off the pitch.

The way I would look at Tiote’s value, is that if he was for sale by another club, how much would you want the club to pay for him before it became too much.

I figure 8 million sounds about right. Although getting more would be nice, if the rumours are true that is.

Nigel De Jong went to A.C. Milan for 3.5 million, he may have only had a year left on his contract, but it goes to show there is value out there in the market… and Nigel De Jong is a better player than Tiote.

I know our policy is sell players when they reach a certain age but for some to say well he’s 28 sell him etc is a disgrace. Players generally peak from 27 through to 31….We don’t keep them for when they are supposed to be at there best.

As for HBA it’s safe to say the club have turned the tide on him inside the club but outside the club they are losing the battle.

Some very interesting quotes from Simon Bird in the mirror.

The ”’top 4” aspirations quote from pardew may well have been political to sell poor selling ST’s, but he can not now go to the media saying the press had placed unrealistic pressure on him if it all implodes.

Personally by not signing a decent CB or 2, I think Pardew has set himself up to be shot down yet again.

What’s the deal with free tickets for the coaches being scrapped? Is it their personal tickets or just their relatives.

Oh the joys of having the tightest multi billionaire owner, a league 1 coach and cronies and Wonga…

Mmmm…… the fact that Tiote’s contract does not run out until 2017 means he is worth £15m +. £8m nowadays will not even get you a good Div 1 player!!
As soon as they say “Source” means it is speculative.
I hope I am wrong as I think he really is our key player this year

i dunno tbh i look at the way ronaldo was solved at manu under fergie the way torres was solved at liverpool and balotelli and if was thought disruptive enough for managers of there class then arfa who is no where near those players levels should be a no brainer to get rid of.

for me the sooner he’s gone the more the fans can move on to getting excited by players who are obv a hell of a lot better than arfa in cabella/rolando/siem/perez and er obertan 😉

Jeff – Most of Ben Arfa’s games were on the wing… plus he has been used as a sub in likely the majority of his appearances.

Why don’t you try to compare Ben Arfa’s goals from varying midfield positions, against those scored by Ameobi as a striker, using the statistics of ‘goals per minute.’ See where that gets you.

Btw, who has claimed Ben Arfa is “world class”?

    Hi Jeff

We get it, you love pardew and hate HBA and it appears you have rather sadly spent many hours being a statto trying to prove a point.

Tell me though, did Shola win 5 league titles and 13 caps for his country. Plus I thought Benny was a midfield / winger not alleged CF like Shola.

As you’re so keen on stats why not look up pardew’s record of consecutive losses, most goals conceded and least scored at WHU, Charlton and NUFC.

Estroplate – good word I’ll give you that.

I’ve just quickly scanned through and it doesn’t seem like anyone mentioned he’s world class apart from the ones that think we should get rid.

Clubs know that HBA will definitely be leaving on a free, why on earth would they spend £5m on player they can get for nothing in less than 12 months? Teams will loan players as it’s a cheaper alternative and then take the gamble on him when on a free.

Rest of the Newcastle squad = World Class.

Didn’t you see the squad harmony and blitz on the Premier League, in the final 21 games of the season – last season… No? oh boy you missed it, it was a good one.

It was like being back in the days when Dalglish was manager, and got rid of the flair and attacking elements such as Ginola, Ferdinand, Asprilla, Gillespie etc… We were ‘on fire’ back then too.

When will fans learn that EVERY PLAYER is for sale….Tiote has no say in this at all, of the club want to get rid they will. This is going to be a long 3 weeks….This window that many claimed as being excellent will be tarnished by a sale of a key player. Tiote can’t and won’t be replaced if he leaves, the buttering up is over.
