Every Single Newcastle Goal In Pre-Season – Video

9:49 am, Wednesday, August 13th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 202 Comments

Here’s a video made by one of readers – Ross Panton (of Gallowgate Tooners) – and Ross has put together a video of every single Newcastle goal scored in pre-season.

So obviously it’s a long video. :D

Thanks to Ross for putting this together – the Gallowgate Tooners twitter feed is @AffyRossy – so you can take a look at some of their videos there.

Superb post that, I agree completely.

I think someone like De Boer would love the idea of coming to NUFC and changing us for the better.

Many people have the opportunity to manage a club but very few have the opportunity to build one from the ground up.

    LG

Aarons looks like a proper LW, Townsend has mainly been utilised as a RW always cutting in…he would be Obertan’s replacement in my eyes rather than stumping Aarons who should occupy the LW

    TADS

Kaboul is a beast but he isn’t HG which means he’d have to come in to replace MYM I think that would be counter productive. Dawson on the other hand is HG and better than both Saylor and Williamson. He’s also an organiser at the back, constantly talking to his other defenders….A trait no other CB has at our club

Lennon has gone backwards in my opinion, he has pace but his crossing is often poor very rarely doe he whip a ball into the box and very rarely does he get it above shin height. Even if he was a great crosser we don’t have anyone in the box whose immense in the air.

Jeff @2 – I love her definition of ‘Pardewed’ :)

  • 5 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:00 AM

    Beatroll
Think most fans would agree it’s what the club as a whole now need

Another manager simply replacing Pardew may well get a better style of play and a few more points on the board but the disruption and fractures would still remain in the background with a valuable asset like the academy rotting away
This is where Ashley’s biggest failing as a club owner comes into play
He simply has no idea of what appointments to make in which key areas

  • 6 beermonkey // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:01 AM

i wouldn’t be surprised if we sold tiote this is Newcastle after all
think it would be a mistake to sell him now, he could have a great season with sissoko next him also with our more attacking line should relieve the pressure on area of the pitch i think he could have a really good season

don’t wanna see any players here on loan unless its a defender with an option to buy
why would we loan that cambel as it would be at the expense of one of the players we have already paid for and there no different from cambel as we don’t know if there going to be good in the prem yet

    cant wait for the weekend

  • 7 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:01 AM

    Our Toon,
He has about the same amount of end product as Obertan I’ll give you that. Personally just don’t rate the lad. He would have to make some drastic changes to his game and style to change my opinion.

He has played predominantly on the right for Spurs, but the lad himself in an interview with 442 said that he only started playing on the right when AVB took over Spurs. Prior to that he was a left winger.

Personally, I think he would offer much more on the left, but still don’t think he would be a good signing.

  • 8 Jeff from Benwell // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:01 AM

    Lennon won’t come
He’s distantly related and very pally with Chris Hughton

  • 9 Markaccus // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:02 AM

Something about the way Rivvy took his goals, particularly the way he pounced on his first one in NZ, makes me optomistic about him. I know it was just a tap in, bit it was a short quick ball into the 6 yard box and he was on it very quickly. Add in that header and the less-than-easy back post sliding finnish, and he does look a good striker.

  • 10 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:03 AM

    Our Toon
Why would it have to be like for like?
Why couldn’t Kaboul replace Jonas and give us some depth in cover seeing how injury probe Taylor and colo are?

Think Lennon would work well with Rivière who seems very quick on his feet, those fast low balls across the six yard box would see the lad thrive

  • 11 Jeff from Benwell // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:06 AM

That vid confirmed that contrary to siht stirring rumour – Sissoko did acknowledge Obertan

  • 12 martoon // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:08 AM

Markaccus @9 – Although he didn’t get many chances at the Real match his movement and running off the ball is pretty good. If he could score in the first game or two in the premiership then his confidence would rise and I think he would be pretty good.
By the way are you on holiday at the moment?

  • 13 Rotonda heights // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:10 AM

    deeps

Rojo is one of the best in the world and would have absolutely transformed our defense. Not sure how old he is though so are people saying 20M is too much because of age, as I can’t think of any other reason.

De Boer and co would be the answer to our prayers. Absolute dream ticket to totally transform the club. Real professionals replacing the likes of ” I don’t know any tricks” Stone.

    De Boer / pardew

    Bergkamp / carver

    Stam / Stone

  • 14 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:13 AM

Not sure about kaboul, always seemed to have a touch of the Bramble/saylors to me.

  • 16 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:14 AM

    Rotonda,
I think he is just 24/25. Not over the hip and his peak years are to come. The stories I’ve read quoted £16million. Personally think he is a great signing. One of the standout players of the World Cup for me, following on from a very good season last year as well.

Would have loved him here, but it isn’t realistic at that price, or with some of the other interest in him.

  • 17 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:15 AM

Over the hip? Over the hill….

  • 18 Rotonda heights // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:16 AM

In that case I would have been prepared to throw a lot of money at Rojo and fellow argie Colo could have helped him settle in.

Still have nightmares starting the season with Saylor and Willo and sadly now also Colo.

  • 19 JamesToon // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:16 AM

I have to admit, a team of de Boer, Bergkamp and Stam would be able to transform NUFC into a consistent top 6 club, even under Ashley, no doubt about it.

  • 20 geordie157 // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:17 AM

I don’t think we’ll get anymore additions until Jan. Shame as a top striker and cb would give us a chance for 5th or 6th.

Would be funny to sign Wickham on deadline day then the mackems get snubbed last min by a replacement.

    Jeff…not a bad review!

  • 22 Jeff from Benwell // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:20 AM

    Rotonda
Bergkamp and Stam have no track record at all.
I would have thought Shearer would have made a good manager – we know what happened there.
    Laudrup flattered to deceive
    Ruud Gullit
All great players but good coaching is not dependant on a glittering playing career.
Mourinho and Wenger no playing experience at all
and even Sir Alex Shankly Rogers and SBR hardly set the world on fire when they played

  • 23 Our Toon // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:21 AM

    TADS

Yeah I see your point on Lennon and with Kaboul. We could just sign Kaboul and not register Jonas for next season (harsh I know). As for Townsend I remember he had a really good spell with floppy chops at QPR

  • 24 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:21 AM

I do think we could attain de Boer from Ajax, but most of the back-room staff is former Ajax players. It’s a pride for them to be back at Ajax.

    …why would they come here?

  • 25 Rotonda heights // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:29 AM

    jeff

Sorry I forgot carver and stone have amazing CVs. Bergkamp and Stam would be assistants to De Boer, not the manger ffs!

yes of course not every one will work out. pardew certainly hasn’t, but for every Solksjaer there’s been a Rodgers Martinez, Pochetinno

What you consistently fail to grasp is that with pardew we get cr-p football as well as never coming anywhere near to winning anything.

I could take a 9/10th place if we at least had the consolation of watching some decent football

It’s almost like you would want an enterprising manager to fail just to gleefully say I told you so, while still wallowing in the mediocrity of pardew, carver and stone.

  • 26 beermonkey // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:29 AM

depending how things go with charnley and not sure what influence he has had with the fat man over transfers but if he proves to be a success in acting as a buffer between club and fat man
i have high hope we could attract a decent up and coming manager
it all hinges on whether this window is just to stop us going down or whether things have changed at the club and we will reinvest
going to take a year before we know the answer though
still think we will have to have a dire season for pards to be sacked

I just cannot help thinking even if we end up recreating the season where we finished 5th leaguetable-wise (not football-wise), the coach wouldn’t know how he did it and therefor cannot reproduce the event and the owner won’t back him next season. Either because:

    a) he thinks we can get by without spending or

    b) because he just won’t back the coach with the money

    Hello fellow dreamers :)

Some of you may remember Rebbeca from 7miles away the name i used to post under, moved house etc forgot my password so just made a new account .

Have to admit i got a bit bored with certain people who cant see the wood for the trees and call people names as a way of proving their point, and the conspiracy theory gang who assume a new poster is someone with 2 or more accounts.

Its good to see Beattie came back and hopefully Torq will start posting regularly again.

As its my 1st post for a while i’m not going to sit and rubbish others claims as certain individuals do.

Pre season has been so so, some good some bad and some things just never change.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by two players in pre season, Aarons nice to see a young lad take his chance and do his job well. The 2nd and probably the most surprising was Cabella, and i dont mean his skill, he’s not shy to get his boot in a hard tackle which i didnt expect from such a slight lad and it put a smile on my face when he booted a couple Socied defenders up a height.

Cant wait for Sunday and as always im optimistic for the season ahead and not expectant….

People like Jeff make me think it’s time for Dr. Ed to update the blog a little bit.

I would love him to change it into a forum where we can post our own topics and he can still create his own that are the main focus of the blog.

It would be nice to talk progress with people who can offer informative discussion without it being distorted by those who cannot see the wood for the tree’s, as I am sure that people would love to talk about their admiration of Pardew without people moaning constantly.

I think the blog would be better for it and we wouldn’t end up discussing the same things day after day.

I enjoy Ed’s work, and I appreciate this public forum he has created and I come back for the quality of chat it offers, but I think it is time to grow outwards.

Sir Bobby Robson was a great player, good enough to play for England. What you have to remember is back then the grounds were a lost muddier than now and the football a lot heavier too, especially if it was wet.

By the time you got to Dennis Wise the game had changed, the ball was much better to play with and the grounds were also getting better.

Times change; Bobby was brilliant for his era, Wise was ok in his but then I have never liked the guy even before he was screwing up Newcastle.

Pardew must think he’s quoted wrong everyday, he wakes up with a complete different mindset to when he went to sleep. He gets excited because he’s hit the jackpot with this job. He tells the fans he wants CL because he thinks that’s what will make us happy but then tries to manage expectations when he knows what he previously said was a lie by saying 48pts.

When the season finishes and this joker leads us to mediocrity he will point to 48pts as the average…Whilst also throwing a few more journos under the bus. His biggest task for this season will be to find a new scapegoat though!!

  • 63 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 11:39 AM

    Firebug,
Not to mention that playing for England meant far more back then, and the honour wasn’t handed out to every English player to have played in the top flight. Too many very average players get caps nowadays. That wasn’t the case back then.

  • 64 firebug666 // Aug 13, 2014 at 11:42 AM

Spot on, the didn’t play for vast amounts of money either, the played for that pride, and it was bloody hard work for them. If half the players today had to head an old wet casey football they would be spending the next six month on the injury table.

  • 65 lew // Aug 13, 2014 at 11:45 AM

I don’t see the point of another striker.

We have Riviere, Ferreyra and Ayoze.
We also have Armstrong and (maybe) Cisse.
I think it’s enough, as we have the squad to play 1 up front.

  • 66 lew // Aug 13, 2014 at 11:48 AM

I believe that we now have the attacking power to feed Cisse.

I strongly agree the need of a CB tho!!

  • 67 T.T.V.V.T. // Aug 13, 2014 at 11:50 AM

So Spuds have sounded out 11 players they’re willing to transfer?

I take it their wage bill is astronomical?

Personally I think Dembele and Townsend are the stand out players.

We’ve possible got an outisde chance of signing Townsend, if we bother our backsides and make them a bid.

I don’t think I could handle any more ribbing from QPR fans on twitter if they were to sign Townsend.

Having said that, he has been there on loan. And it wouldnt mean relocating in terms of his home.

But Townsend on the right, Cabella on the left, and De Jong in the middle of a three behind the central striker?

There’s pace, trickery, creativity, and an ability to be very direct in that attacking line up. It would scare me if I thought Newcastle had to defend against it.

So why not? Pardew said there’s still scope to sign more players if the deal is right…

  • 68 firebug666 // Aug 13, 2014 at 11:51 AM

    lew

I think Pardrew is panicked after last seasons protests, he thinks he needs a prolific striker in to get plenty of goals to appease the fans. (He’s right we could do with a know striker) but I don’t think it is essential.

He seems to be happy with our defence, while most of the fans (myself included) can see the need to improve at CB. We may get more goals this season if our front line get it together early on.

The big question is, will we get enough goals to cover the amount that we will concede?

  • 77 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 12:22 PM

    Ethio,
Firstly, there is no need for telling folk who disagree to go support another team. We all support NUFC (except maybe the odd troll), it is why we all come on here and interact with others regularly. We all want what is best for our club, we just have differing ideas on how to achieve that. Difference of opinion is healthy and enables discussion and debate, which, provided we are open to it, helps all of us develop our thoughts further.

Secondly, I’m certain some on here would love a billionaire to come in and do what City have done. Personally, that isn’t the way I would want my club to go. I would prefer an owner who had passion for the club and the development of players, willing to spend on players if we need it. An owner who would implement a philosophy throughout the club based on an attractive attacking style of football and that would go through a recruitment process enabling him to employ the best people to carry out this philosophy.

Why do you want an Arab ?

Current owners of clubs in the Premiership:

Arsenal – American, Russian, Iranian (British citizen)
    Aston Villa – American
    Chelsea – Russian
    Hull – Egyptian (naturalized British)
    Leicester – Thai
    Liverpool – American
    Man City – Arab
    Man Utd – American
    QPR – Malaysian, Indian
    Soton – Switzerland
    Sunderland – American

The other 9 clubs are owned by Brits.

There is only one club owned by an Arab.

i think you miss the point , well at least for me you do,

our owner could be green blue or black and come from mars I don’t care , I don’t care who really plays for us , as long as the system they put in place to take the club forward is a one is a one that tries to entertain and and tries to win things,

what we have now is a guy who only wants to make money and forgets about the fans,
then from a football side of things , a manager who is massively under achieving with the players he has , does not play to win games only not to lose them, and there is a big difference in the 2
I would like a manager who I could be proud off not cring at and wonder what he is going to say and do wrong next,
I want my manager to say ,Europe and the cups the aim , I’m going to give it a good go, not com out and say 48 points is the aim , what will 48 points get you?

our club is a total joke because of both the clowns running it ,

    invest anything since 2007?
I think he does when the time is right and when the
right players are available.like the ones we grabbed
in this window.personally I like our club to be successful with unknown young players not by the likes of city or PSG owners.
The reason he didn’t invest like in this window in the past is b/c
right players were not available on those times.he showed some ambition at the right time this time.

    Lunching time
Open all the doors and let you out into the world
    Lunching time
Turn all of the lights on over every boy and every girl
    Lunching time
One last call for alcohol so finish your whiskey or beer
    Lunching time
You don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here

    [Chorus:]
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
    Take me home

    Lunching time
Time for you to go out to the places you will be from
    Lunching time
This room won’t be open till your brothers or your sisters come
So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits
I hope you have found a friend
    Lunching time
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end

    [Chorus:]
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
I know who I want to take me home
    Take me home

    Lunching time

    [Chorus:]
I know who I want to take me home

Markaccus @89 – What about ‘Lonely Boy’ (Andrew Gold)?

  • 94 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 1:01 PM

    Ethio,
What has Ashley invested this summer? The club posted a profit of £10million last financial year and are likely to post an even greater profit when the next set of financial results are published. When Ashley arrived in 2007 he did invest money in the club, and did again when we were relegated. You won’t find me arguing that point at all.

In terms of the recruitment and timing of player purchasing, yes, he doesn’t it when it is of biggest advantage to him. This policy has quite often been to the detriment of the playing side. The reason we have had to be active this summer is because Ashley’s investment and advertising would have been under threat if we hadn’t. Yet we have still barely spent what we have received for Cabaye and Debuchy. If he was serious and ambitious we would have had a centre half in and a top proven centre forward in.

However, you have taken one minor detail of what I said I would like from a chairman – investment/willing to spend, and ignored all the other points. After 7 years in charge does the club have a style or playing philosophy that is a common theme throughout the club? Have we been through a proper recruitment process to employ staff in key roles and ensure they are fully capable of doing the role assigned? I’m not even sure we have any sort of recruitment process – Pardew and Ashley gambling buddies, Kinnear and Ashley drinking buddies. Finally, does Ashley have passion for the club? Does he ‘get it’ in terms of the area, the people, the community and how they all tie in with the club? He doesn’t have to be from the area, but without understanding the area he will never truly untag the potential this club has.

    Ethiotoon,
Contrary to your post concerning Mike Ashleys ambition, is that he doesn’t invest at the right time in fact it is the polar opposite, he invests when it suits him, a right time to have invested would have been after that season we finished fifth but it was decided that we could finish tenth with the existing squad, last summer might have been another good time to invest and save the poisonous atmosphere that was created toward the end of last season, again this time round despite the Cabaye and Debuchy money being spent it is a great concern we haven’t a proven PL scorer, but it has obviously been decided that the team is good enough for 48 points which will dictate whether the ‘finance’ is right in January, depending on how far we are from that goal, that Ethitoon is the extent of Mike Ashleys ambition.

Any clubs in any top flight european clubs, won’t be able to “do a man city” with the FFP rules.

We can still go forward under Ashley, he just needs someone to direct him, we are a selling club anyway, so i wouldn’t mind if we got de Boer and were transformed into an Ajax mould club, as long as it brings success

  • 110 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 1:28 PM

    Jeff,
    Harper Krul similar
    Carr worse than Janmaat
    N’Zog Haidara similar
Rozenhal and Taylor probably about the same level as Colo Willo now
    Butt better than Colback
    Geremi worse then Anita
    Smith worse than Sissoko
    Martins better than Rivi
Viduka worse than Cabella although Cabella hasn’t yet settled, and we don’t know if he will adjust so a difficult one.
    Milner better than Goofy

    Fat Sam Pardew equally poor

I’d say on balance then that the current side slightly edges it, provided Cabella settles immediately.

You are quite right that fans thinking a wealthy billionaire will lavish unlimited funds on the club ignoring EFP rules are going to be very disappointed.

Those days are gone. Any club that successfully manages its budget will in the future be in a better position to buy players. Clubs in the Champions League even more so.

  • 113 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 1:35 PM

    JamesToon,
I agree, we could still move forward under Ashley. We could also continue to stagnate. Virtually every club is a selling club. There are maybe only 3 or 4 clubs in the world that aren’t.

There is little/no evidence that Ashley would appoint someone like De Boer, the majority of his appointments are people he trusts and already knows. He has needed someone to direct him the last 7 years, but again is only comfortable dealing with people he trusts/knows – hence Wise/Vetere/Jimenez/Kinnear/Mort/Llambias etc.

As for the FFP sanctions, we will see how these pan out over the next few years. I imagine if a side spent ott and signed 5/6 of the worlds biggest stars UEFA would allow them to compete as it would damage their ‘product’ not having the best players playing. Punishments were soft this time round, let’s see if Platini has the balls to tell PSG they can’t be in next seasons Champions League.

  • 114 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 1:37 PM

    Jeff,
Having rethought, I’m possibly being harsh on Colback. Butt did eventually play decent for us, but it may well have been the season after that.

Obviously if SDJ and Tiote are available then it would change slightly again.

  • 122 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 1:50 PM

    Martoon,
Yeah, that was a tough call for me on the centre halves. Taylor was a better player when he was younger, I’m not sure where it has gone wrong, but he piled on beef. A young Taylor was better than Willo. Rozenhal and Colo, well Colo walks that in his prime, but that was a couple of seasons back now. A bit error prone these days. You could be right that the current pair are better, but I’d say it is pretty close.

AS for Martins and Rivi, Rivi just doesn’t excite me. I would love him to prove me wrong, but have seen, read or heard little about him that makes me think he will be great. Martins by that stage had shown he could score in the Prem, and therefore gets my vote on that one.

    Slank,
Woodman is unquestionably a Pardew appointment. Maybe also a way of securing his sons move to Newcastle. Stone and Carver will be Llambias and Pardew I’d have thought. I doubt Ashley gets his hands grubby at that end, just sets a budget that has to be adhered to in terms of wages and spend on recruitment process.

What we need is a manager, who is a leader of men, who has his own philosophy and style, his own set of coaching staff, who can work under ashley’s tight budget, who can develop a club on their own. We need that Arsene Wenger/Frank de Boer/Alex Ferguson type manager, but all we can hope for now is for pardew to change his ways and hopefully we’ll have a good season.

    Sundays game.
My take on it is that we all have a reasonable idea of what City can do/are capable of -with their current players 9much the same as last season.
What we do not know are ALL the capabilities/frailties of our side.
Will the new players perform well as individuals/playing together.
Has there been enough time for them to learn the tactics.
    Will any flop.
What will be our tactics for the game – defend -hope to nick a goal.
Will we attack with our new forward potential.
How will our central defence be protected -will this detract from forward play.
    Etc Etc.
The only thing I know for sure is that if we succumb to City getting through speedily our defence is going to be all over the place – pulled out of position -leaving gaps – this is when we collapse – and ball watching/missing the runner takes over.
Whilst anything can happen in football and we are generally an unknown quantity at this stage of the season -I’m afraid I can see a defeat looming – in the region of 3 – 0. Hope I’m wrong though – then it is 2 games before the International break and another run of potentially winnable games. Coaches could tweek things during the break if things are not working.

I too doubt very much whether Ashley gets his hands dirty. All the anecdotal information from the media about Sports Direct suggests that if a person is trusted by Ashley he lets them get on with the job and doesn’t interfere. I would imagine that the club is no different even though it’s his own money that is at stake.

Media reports and fans saying Ashley said this and that / did this and did that are probably way off the mark.

You say that 48 pts is acceptable because of the top 4.

Well even if we lose every game against the top 5 there are still 28 games and a total of 84 points to play for.

I’d say bare minimum we should be aiming for 55 points.

15 wins, 10 draws, 13 losses would be adequate for me.

Although we see Charnley as a very passive an unemotional man I bet he is the most passionate supporter at the club, possibly in the ground on match day given his lengthy service to the club.

He looks like a very level headed person. Ideally the type of man you want at the helm when surrounded by many highly over paid, intellectually challenged prima donnas.

In retrospect these were bad decisions but at the time of their appointments Ashley and probably Chris Mort probably didn’t have sufficient inside knowledge of the football business to judge the adequacy of their decisions. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

  • 146 optimistic prime // Aug 13, 2014 at 2:28 PM

The big problem with comparing those two sides is no one’s took the management coaching staff into consideration.

I’d say comparing Pardew and Fat Sam is like trying to decide which nonce you want to mess with your kids.

But one things for sure SBR would have had both teams playing and performing better.

The season we finished 5th was the best where likely see under Pardew.
I sat every game that year chewing my nails at SJP whilst the team was pinned back being outplayed only for us to score a worldy on the counter.

The only time that year we looked a decent team was the run of 6 or 7 we played 4 3 3 and IMO the only time Pardew has employed Benny in a meaningful way. And as we all know neither lasted.

I had quite a few arguments that year about Pardews tactcs and when i said we’d be lucky not to get relagated with Pardews non style people thought i was crazy.

Funny thing was if you listened to the commentary for away games that year the final analysis was always the same, didnt play well but got some points on the board.

I honestly cant see Pardew changing but i couldn’t see us signing 9 players so i hope for the best but i’m prepared for the worst, again..

I hold out great hope for Charnley

He seems to have gained the trust of MA
For all the anti AP brigade he had nothing to do with Pardew’s appointment

Krul; you would be best off booking your ticket for the match in advance and pick it up from the ticket office on the day of the match.
Don’t leave it too near to the kick off to collect it as it gets busy.
Loads of bars in the City center and they generally get full on match day.
Most city centre hotels are within easy walk of the ground.
Avoid Metro Centre hotels which sometimes people confuse as the City centre as that is a bit of a journey to and from the City.
Cannot say where is best for a night out on a Sunday night. It’ll depend on what you want to do. There are plenty bars and restaurants on Grey Street and towards the Quayside

  • 149 scitoon // Aug 13, 2014 at 2:30 PM

So much negativity over 1 misplace sentence from 1 interview. I can see it has kept the masses busy today…!

Just out of curiosity, what do you think the mood on here will be like if we beat City? Or if we are in the top 6 by Xmas. What then? Will you all be shouting for Pardew’s head and singing about poor old Benny?

I imagine you will be praising the players for not listening to Pardew’s tactics or some other twaddle.

You know that every comment that have been said doesn’t mean to happen always. Offcourse our initial aim is top 6.AP said if we reach 48 pts that means before season ends,w/h means we will have great chance to push for European places If we get that magic number b4 end of season.
At the end,it’s just his opinion.

  • 151 Lilongwe Geordie // Aug 13, 2014 at 2:31 PM

    Slank,
That is pretty much the point though isn’t it? Bad decisions in appointment of key roles. There are plenty of professional recruitment personnel who specifically work within the football industry. If you don’t have the knowledge to do recruit the right person, engage a consultant who makes their professional career from doing such a thing.

As for Chris Mort, I’m not sure how keen he was on some of these appointments. He looked decidedly uncomfortable on regular occasions, and got out as quickly as he could, citing his lack of knowledge to be able to fulfil the role.

  • 152 Markaccus // Aug 13, 2014 at 2:34 PM

The problem most have is the fact at how badly timed and hoe misplaced the sentence was. He should know better. Of course we knoe EVERY club wants to excell, so why even say that 48 poinys is ok. He should have said “48 points is out average and we want to hump that up the sh1tter and p1ss on it’s tits”

But I agree with you 100% – that is a very realistic target and I’m sure the board will be expecting something in that order – if we get a good start then close to 60 points is also not unrealistic. (Damn I hate double negatives!)

  • 164 scitoon // Aug 13, 2014 at 2:43 PM

  • 165 beefman13 // Aug 13, 2014 at 2:45 PM

Blubber Tits, good call, Bradley is a very decent kid who rarely wastes tye ball, Tiote cannot accept loosing the ball and will kick anyone in any position of the field as long as it looks like he isnt getting done, Bradley is a yank, but hes a very good player who can hold his own in any company!

Tiote has done well on the whole for us but he needs to move on for me, i would take 8 million in a heartbeat, no questions.

    Bratroll @ 141

Having just looked at last seasons points total and taking into consideration our very poor record after Cabaye was sold I would say that 48 points is the minimum.

Perhaps what Pardew said was lost in translation as I cannot believe Ashley, whose SD sets ambitious targets, would accept 48 points having sanctioned the spend in the transfer market.

I think 48 is the drop dead position, almost certainly I think for Pardew’s job. Heads will roll if 48 or less is achieved.

  • 173 Laurent Robert 32 // Aug 13, 2014 at 3:08 PM

Tenth being a target last season was an underwhelming aim and most were gutted it was publicly mentioned.

Now is seems it still hasn’t been raised. Pardew talking his usual hot air of a Champions League place when trying to sell season tickets, and now even after getting players in he still backtracks and tries to lower the bar now we’re reaching the start of the games. The man is a con artist.

That is not twisting anything by the way as some have said. Nothing needs twisting anyway. He does that. It just needs highlighting.
He’s subtly trying to move the goal posts to a level he can more easily attain as he knows that the higher contrast of places will increase the pressure placed upon his slimy head.

Plus, he says we’ll play an attacking style which the fans want. Hang on a sec, Alan… You said before that you always play on the front foot. Surely if you were already on the ‘front foot’, you wouldn’t need to tell us you’re bringing an attacking style. Liar.

Plus, he told us we were going for goals against Liverpool at home. Liar. Gouffran and Ben Arfa on the bench and packed the midfield with defensive minded players. We were hammered 6-0. Every second of that was appalling. Carragher was even having words with us in the Gallowgate whilst the game was going on it was that bad.

If Pinocchio had been sacked after the Reading home game we wouldn’t have had to put up with absolutely humiliating results thereafter.

I hope the same level of abuse rains down on him immediately.

    No more. Pardew out.

•The Magpies racked up 15 last-man tackles in the Premier League last season, more than any other side.
•No side won fewer points from losing positions in the Premier League in 2013/14 than the Magpies (3).

Pardew sets his teams up on the front foot? Basically we defend for our lives & unless we score first then it’s almost guaranteed that it’s game over.

What DM doesn’t give away free kicks? Every player gives away daft free kicks but Tiote is probably one of the best DM’s in the league. Players like him a worth more to a team than the usual superstars like HBA or cabella!!

Tiote if used correctly is an absolute beast, we tried to change his game by curbing the amount of cards he picked up. He’s a unsung hero who thrives on doing the dirty stuff, he makes less mistakes than the more expansive players we have and he covers for them more often than not. A proper competitor, the only player who I can truly say leaves it all on the pitch!!

I read somewhere that Cabella had the second highest number of assists in the French league last season. With De Jong I would imagine that there is going to be more opportunities for the likes of Riviere and Sissoko.
