Newcastle have been hurt late in the transfer a couple of time since Mike Ashley bought the club in the summer of 2007, and we are hoping that same scenario doesn’t happen again this summer.
Cheick Tiote – in action in pre-season
There has been news that Cheick Tiote now wants to leave Newcastle, and that was a surprise to us, but assuming that news is true we have to think that Newcastle are now lining up possible replacements in case Cheick is sold.
Arsenal are said to be interested in Cheick, with the fee said to be £8M.
Newcastle do have some good players who can play defensive midfield – such as new signing Jack Colback, who has looked the part in pre-season, and Vurnon Anita and Moussa Sissoko can also play there, although Pardew has preferred to play Moussa going forward because he is a threat to opposing defenses.
Newcastle did some good business with Arsenal earlier this summer, when we sold Mathieu Debuchy for £10M plus £2M add-ons depending on how well Mathieu does at the north London club.
Arsenal’s Joel Campbell
And Newcastle could possibly use Cheick Tiote as bait in order to sign one of our current striker targets, Joel Campbell, either permanently or on loan for the season.
Maybe get £6M plus a season long loan deal for Campbell in exchange for Cheick?
But even if that deal does happen, Newcastle surely need to bring in another defensive midfield player to replace Cheick before September.
That’s always assuming the news that Cheick wants away from Newcastle is true.
