Pardew’s Sky Sports Interview – You Decide – Video

8:26 am, Wednesday, August 13th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 17 Comments

There have been many different takes from Alan Pardew’s interview yesterday with Sky Sports, with that 48 points being a good season the line that a lot of journalists have pounced on – but most of the interview is positive and 48 points was a minimum.

    Re-post:

Tiote for me can be sold in January if the money is right – it needs to be reinvested of course or else why bother.

I am not going to watch that guy talk more nonsense – he cannot even remember what he said in the last interview!

…everything with this guy is just random!

Ed…would you rather he had set a maximum? 😉 lol

People dont want to hear the rest of it, they only want to listen to the bit that they can twist into an ultra negative. He still should not have said it, as it doesn’t really back up belief in a CL push, which he claimed in an earlier interview.

    Jesper

…..and his replacement needs to be lined up and agreed BEFORE tiote is sold, otherwise we will be scrabbling around at the last minute looking for a bargain that wont materialise.

    Markaccus,
I really can’t stand the sound or sight of him any more, the way he starts of laughing or smirking whatever you want to call it,
‘We ‘ave Siem from Ajax and Cabella from, mmm France’ did he have any input at all in the scouting or purchase or say in Remy Cabella.

    Jesper,
No one will buy Tiote in January as he will be away at the AFCON (or likely to, qualifiers are still to be played).

    Markaccus,
It isn’t what he said that annoys me, it is a lack of consistency and a lack of realism. Is our current squad good enough to push for Champions League? Not by a long shot. Would getting a minimum of 48 points be a good season? No chance. That would have had us 11th last year. The message from the club has always been steady progression. Aiming for 48 points after last season doesn’t represent that.

Anywhere from 6th to 10th would be a decent season, preferably with good cup runs. As the club have told us though, statically that would probably see us relegated.

    *statistically

Those of you here who are anti-pardew blabers, don’t ruin our much anticipated season by stating irrelevant information and facts. If you have further problems with the mgr & the board, you can go somewhere else and applause the chipmunks..
we don’t have a room for you here..

Thats the point i am making. The claims are all over the place. He never actually says we are aiming for at least 48 points, but why even mention it? Why couldnt he just say “we want european football” or at least “we want to finnish a few places higher than last season” instead of bringing in averages? He is towing the company line, as usual, and sometimes he makes his life harder by doing it.

    Jail

No idea what say pardew gets in any transfers, but i know what you mean about the way he kind of chuckles to himself when bigging up the players.

“Trast me -snurtle- these lads are great sahnings for noocarstle”

Agree it’s taken slightly out of context but he shouldn’t of set a points target
Especially not one that last season would of seen us finish outside the top 10
The club have said they want to build on top 10 so he should of said were pushing top 8, if things are going to plan come Jan then why not look at Europe?
He’s just set himself up for pelters, especially knowing the ill will currently harboured for him!

    JFA
According to Pards he’s scouted this current batch of in comings personally along side Carr
He’s put his name to them so for me for the first time in his tenure he’s actually under pressure to perform
The players he wanted replaced have been replaced under his advisement and he’s bolstered his attacking options with his choices
If things aren’t looking good after 10 games he could be neck deep in the brown stuff
But yeah certainly not after the first game !

    Ethitoon,
You have been warned about chewing that narcotic shrub so early in the morning, or is it early in the afternoon where you are, which entitles you to your drug induced wisdom ?

  • 14 Pottz // Aug 13, 2014 at 8:53 AM

I reckon Pardew’s reckoning of 48 points would be a good achievement for this squad.

A hell of a lot a factors to take into account such as.

Blending in a whole new set of players.

    New players adjusting to EPL.

Do the new players have enough goals in them. Especially Rivière.

    The perennial issue of injuries.

    The Defence??

    Pardew’s man management, tactical nous.

Finally how the supporters react if things start to go pear shaped.

    Lilo
Your a busy boy this morning young man. I’m in full agreement with you about Tiote & SDJ. It would be irresponsible of Pardew to take a big gamble like that over one game when the real chances of getting points on the board are in the following easier games.Common sense should tell him it’s more important to have these two players fit & ready to perform in these games then it is to see them on the treatment table for god knows how many weeks.

  • 16 martoon // Aug 13, 2014 at 8:57 AM

At the risk of Pardew lover claims – I would imagine that Pardew has to give qute a few interviews per week to meet his media commitments. It is human nature to try and phrase things differently as no one wants to say the same thing over and over again. I think when he does this it sounds like he is changing tac or backtracking. However saying that the 48 points comment is disappointing but I’m sure that must be the very minimum target – surely the board will want an improvement on last year given the money spent on new signings.

  • 17 moonraker // Aug 13, 2014 at 10:28 PM

I cannot believe this guy is serious when he mentions 48 points as target!

There’s no reason to quote the average points total cos that includes some terrible seasons and a relegation.

Why cant he have aspirations for top six? We have as much resource as all clubs except City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man u and Liverpool. Spurs are perpetual under achievers.

So why do these cretins keep talking us DOWN?

    Talk us up FFS !!!!
