Report Newcastle Have Signed Manchester City Defender

There are tweets going around the Twitter universe that Newcastle have agreed to pay out £4.2M for Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

Micah Richards _4

Micah Richards – has he signed for Newcastle?

Take a look at this Twitter account by some Manchester City football writer, who is supposed to be in the know – but when have we heard that before?

Here is the Twitter account of @FNN_Official and there could even be some later tweets after this article has been published.

And the tweets suggest that Sunderland were the first club to agree a deal for the 26 year-old, but they balked at Micah’s wage demands.

Here are two of the tweets with the first one sent out at about 9:00 pm UK time last night, and the second sent out about one hour later:

  • Manchester City right-back Micah Richards (26) is set to make a £4.2million move to Newcastle. #MCFC #NUFC
  • Regarding Richards, he had agreed a move to Sunderland but they didn’t want to pay Richards wage demands. #safc #nufc

Newcastle have been linked with Micah Richards all summer, but reports in the local papers have suggested that he has never been a target at Newcastle, so we just don’t know.

That £4.2M fee is a good one if it’s true, but the other news was that Newcastle would not bring in another defender unless one moved out, and of course there was some news yesterday that Newcastle want to move our Steven Taylor, but he wants to stay at his home town club.

Micah can play at right back or center-back, and he has a lot of experience playing in the Premier League, and while at Manchester City he has played 245 games with 9 goals and 179 of those appearances were in the Premier League, where he scored 6 of his 9 goals.

For £4.2M Micah would seem to be a bit of a bargain – well at least when you consider that Ireland International Shane Long has signed on at Swansea for a massive £12M, and that fee even surprised Shane.

We’d be surprised if this news on Micah is true – but of course we have been wrong before. 😀

And For those who think we’ll struggle upfront you hav no idea whats coming this season !! Lets just hope we dont loose someone like tiote or socks and we will be hovering around 5..6th all season..maybe push on for champions league if Cisse hits top form !!!

How many years has it been since he played a professional league game as a centre back?

If his wages are not to much he could be very valuable for the team.

Not as many years as Steven Taylor has been utter dross mate. He’s definitely an upgrade on that pathetic cnunt.

Can’t see him being signed as a right back, plus would only move for 1st team football so can only see him being signed as a center back.

He’d be perfect in centre back with big willo. Shove coloccini in defensive mid and I think we had a side full of depth, enough to win a cup.

It’d be real to get him in and get rid of staylor. Can’t see willo getting a look in after though. Cause pardew has to much faith in collo.

I wouldn’t mind if they paid him 150K a week to see the back of Steven Taylor! Local lad yes but he is rubbish just like Strolla was. Send him to second division in Turkey as well or wherever Strolla is.

I thought Long signed for the Saints, not the Swans? Is Richards a better CB that Willo or Colo? Its a fair sum to fork out for a reserve RB with a dodgy fitness record, especially when his wage packet is factored in.

Yes sav, I tend to agree with you on Richards.

If our CB’s weren’t so poor, would we be so keen to sign Richards.

Let’s face it, he’s an athletic uncultured footballer, or more bluntly, a headless chicken.

He’s an awesome player, if he goes on a run of 5 games, and stays fit, he’ll be phenomenal signing!

Pretty sad when were hoping that richards can be great on the basis of a run of 5 games. For the team to perform well, not only do we need a new manager but need a team that is consistantly on the pitch (not injured) I like your other comments though Sliema

If we lose Tiote then he would be great as either centreback allowing Collo to push up a bit or defensive mid himself.

Charlietoon. Id drop willo and have colo and richards/mbiwa. Have sissoko and anita in the middle both swapping on a def/attack minded position ie a ramires/matic combo

Agreed. Manager needs to go asap. I’m just trying to reman positive about the new season. Despite my hatred of a lot of the stuff surrounding the club these days, I can’t help being excited 2 days before the season kicks off.

if thats true then…awesome.. considering he didnt play much he might be rusty, but even at his 50%, hes still better than wili or taylor..

    IF thats true..awesome transfer window..thanks Mike 🙂

we’ve been crying for squad depth..but now..we have too many players 😀 other teams will come to us & will bid VERY low on other players, who we need to get rid off.. so for those who are saying mikes all about the money..i guess thats not the case.. now all we need is a class manager, so brought 10 people in..all we need is one more..a f****** world class manager 😀

People on this blog are far too critical of Iron Mike Williamson. He was by far our best centre-back last season – this is backed up by his statistics of clearances, blocks and aerial duels all far exceeding the others and by the fact we looked much more solid when he was playing. Both Colo and MYM looked infinitely more comfortable/better whilst playing aside him as opposed to one another.

Sure he is incredibly uncultured and can’t do anything with the ball besides hoof it or pass it 5 yards but that isn’t his job. His primary job is to stop attacks and goals and he was undoubtedly the most effective at this last season.

I wish people would stop hating on him just because he was signed from the lower leagues, cost £1 million and doesn’t fit with visions of a 21st century defender.

Great news if true. The guy can play CB as well as RB.which is what we need.I think he is on 70k a week at city,so I don’t think nu will offer him more than 35k and may be he desides to have huge pay cut to join us,we will see.
I am still dreaming of Grenier though more than center back.what a season we’ll have with him, cabella,De jong and Reviere. His agent said no means he is waiting for improved offer from us and when he say nu is a possibility means if no offer from other clubs till the last minute of this window, then he will have no chance but accept our offer..
so we still are in the hunt & monitoring…
consequently if we land either Remy,Coates or Richards, that’ll also is exciting…
lookslike we will grab atleast one before sept first..

I feel sorry for the Palace fans as Pulis took the team from the brink of relegation last season.

It looks like the owner has too much say in who should be bought. The owner has the obvious right to say how much is available for transfers but not who the manager should be.

I wonder whether the bets on who would be the first manager in the Premier League to be sacked (Allardyce or Pardew) are now null and void although it looks like Pulis walked and the Premier League hasn’t started yet !

I would like him gone, but 2 days before our opening game is certainly not the right time to get rid. I’m happy for him to have the opening 8 games and see how he goes, but a minimum of 15 points from the first 8 is what I expect. If we don’t achieve that then he should be out the door. Bear in mind 7 of those games are winnable, so 15 shouldn’t be a difficult ask.

I’d also like to see a further improvement in the football. We saw that in a handful of games last season (for which I gave credit at the time) but it wasn’t enough. We need to play at an improved level and style on a regular basis.

I’d be happy if he proved me wrong and became a success here, but I haven’t seen enough evidence that he is capable of changing tact after all this time in management.

On Palace, it is a shame for them fans. From what I’ve read, it isn’t that they are going for the wrong targets, more that they are failing to agree terms and get them over that dreaded line. It looks like Pulis has walked, so the sack race should still be on.

Is Malky Mackay still out of work? My money would be on him to get the Palace job given his good working relationship with Moody, who was in charge of all transfers at Cardiff with Malky. He is part of the reason Malky and Tan fell out.
