There are tweets going around the Twitter universe that Newcastle have agreed to pay out £4.2M for Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
Micah Richards – has he signed for Newcastle?
Take a look at this Twitter account by some Manchester City football writer, who is supposed to be in the know – but when have we heard that before?
Here is the Twitter account of @FNN_Official and there could even be some later tweets after this article has been published.
And the tweets suggest that Sunderland were the first club to agree a deal for the 26 year-old, but they balked at Micah’s wage demands.
Here are two of the tweets with the first one sent out at about 9:00 pm UK time last night, and the second sent out about one hour later:
- Manchester City right-back Micah Richards (26) is set to make a £4.2million move to Newcastle. #MCFC #NUFC
- Regarding Richards, he had agreed a move to Sunderland but they didn’t want to pay Richards wage demands. #safc #nufc
Newcastle have been linked with Micah Richards all summer, but reports in the local papers have suggested that he has never been a target at Newcastle, so we just don’t know.
That £4.2M fee is a good one if it’s true, but the other news was that Newcastle would not bring in another defender unless one moved out, and of course there was some news yesterday that Newcastle want to move our Steven Taylor, but he wants to stay at his home town club.
Micah can play at right back or center-back, and he has a lot of experience playing in the Premier League, and while at Manchester City he has played 245 games with 9 goals and 179 of those appearances were in the Premier League, where he scored 6 of his 9 goals.
For £4.2M Micah would seem to be a bit of a bargain – well at least when you consider that Ireland International Shane Long has signed on at Swansea for a massive £12M, and that fee even surprised Shane.
We’d be surprised if this news on Micah is true – but of course we have been wrong before. 😀
