Dummett, Gouffran, Riviere Start – Aarons, Perez On Bench

nufc emblemmanchester-city-crest

The only real surprise in Alan Pardew’s selection today for the game against Manchester City is that local lad Paul Dummett gets the nod over Frenchman Massadio Haidara at left back, after Massadio had started most of the pre-season games.

And it looks like Newcastle are playing in their usual 4-2-3-1 formation today – one which Liverpool have started to use today in their games at home to Southampton.

Newcastle: Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Paul Dummett; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Moussa Sissoko, Remy Cabella, Yoan Gouffran; Emmanuel Riviere
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Massadio Haidara, Steven Taylor, Mehdi Abeid, Gabriel Obertan, Rolando Aarons, Ayoze Perez

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Joe Hart; Gael Clichy, Vincent Kompany (c), Martin Demichelis, Aleksandar Kolarov; Fernando, Yaya Toure; David Silva, Stevan Jovetic, Samir Nasr; Edin Dzeko
Substitutes: Willy Caballero, Dedryck Boyata, Pablo Zabaleta, Fernandinho, James Milner, Jesus Navas, Sergio Aguero

Referee: Martin Atkinson (Yorkshire)

And it’s good to see both Aarons and Perez on the bench – because both players can be a threat to opposing defenses, as they both showed in pre-season.

The two holding central midfielders will be Jack Colback and Vurnon Anita, and the middle three are Sissoko, Cabella and Gouffran – with Riviere up front.

It looks like the team we thought would start – but we had Haidara in for Dummett.

This is a debut game for new boys Janmaat, Colback, Cabella and Riviere and maybe for Perez and Aarons – if they get on in the second half.

We need to see an energetic and good performance from the lads today – and maybe we can even get something out of this game.

There will be a round of applause today in the 17th minute in honor of our fallen fans John Alder and Liam Sweeney, who lost their lives when Malaysian flight MH17 was shot down over Ukraine on 17th July, when they were on their way to support the lads in New Zealand.

And before the game tributes will also be paid to both John and Liam by both teams.

Dummett ?!! Wouldn’t start him against Burnley not to mention City….crap..don’t rate him at all.

    Don’t really like Anita either.

But I guess, bar Haidara for Dummett this is our strongest team at the moment.

Don’t think we stand a chance sadly…. fingers crossed for a result though.

Not sure what to make of this line-up to be honest. I have my doubts about Dummett instead of Haidara, and also hope Saylor gets nowhere near the pitch. Nice to see Gouffran start, needless to say I wish Colback, Cabella, Jaanmaat and Riviere all the best for the game, be interesting to see how it goes.

So Haidara plays the majority of the pre season and is probably our best left back, but is dropped for Dummet ? .

Pardew is at it again folks.

Hart, Clichy, Kompany (C), Demichelis, Kolarov, Fernando, Toure, Nasri, Silva, Jovetic, Dzeko

They have missed a trick, not setting Navas on Dummett.

We are playing 4.2.3.1 – which is about as good as it can get playing Man City.

    Re post

    Jack butler

    Quick one before I leave.

I can’t see why people claim Ashley will ditch us for Rangers. The EPL gets way more coverage than the SPL and the CL claims hold no water.

Your only allowed to advertise the 4 main sponsors of CL the only things the club can advertise during CL games is the kit sponsor and the shirt sponsor.

So unless he sticks sports direct on front of tops or one of his other companies ie Donnay start making strips there’s no advertising for him to benefit from.

    Hmm 4 3 3 I that’s not bad 4 4 2 we could get a pasting.

    Gouffran = extra defender.
If there is a late sub and we are behind -Percy better bring on Aarons – but it’ll probably be Obertron.

Could be any formation with that lot. My heart wanta that to be a 433 with cabella and goofy either side of Rivvy, but its likely a 442 with socks and cabella as wingers. Id accept a 451, again with cabba and goofy wide, bit i cant see it. As long as we attack somehow i will accept it.

Not to worry lads, with Pardew playing his team on the front foot like he always does, I really and truly feel like we can give a performance worthy of our fans if I’m honest. Dummett is a real fret going forward.

Ferreyr i don’t think will get more then a handful of games….he’s just an opportunistic gamble we took when he didn’t want to go back to Donetsk due to the fighting. I don’t think he has what it takes at this level.

When they are back in the SPL and playing Champions League football the coverage his company gets will far outweigh what he gets at NUFC, it’s one to keep an eye on for the future

Apart from Dummitt the team that most people predicted.

Ferreyra not on the bench as he isn’t match fit for a Premiership game.

Surprised Mbiwa not on the bench. Something up ?

Haha Ben Arfa and Mbiwa should be starting. Ferreyra should be on the bench. Instead, we’ve got Perez on the bench who’s only young. He must be doing well.
