For the second game at St. James’ Park in a row, Manchester City scored a late goal to beat Newcastle 2-0, but Newcastle had surged late in the game, and missed some chances near the end , and we could have easily taken a point out of this game, with late substitutes Perez and Aarons giving the City defense all kinds of trouble late in the game.
David Silva put Man City ahead in first half
And one minute after Ayoze Perez came on after 83 minutes he was through on the right, then he beat his man in the box, and sent in a right foot shot that was just deflected and it grazed the outside of the post – and what a start that could have been for the 21 year-old Spaniard.
But it was not to be, and late in the game Aguero scored City’s second goal, after Tim Krul could only block the Argentines first shot, to make the score flattering for the PL Champions.
Newcastle were surging forward and Sissoko in added time put a great chance over the bar with his left foot – when he should have done much better.
We suppose on paper this looks again like a fairly easy win and City’s 11th successive victory against Newcastle, but there were a lot of positives to take out of this game.
The first half was fairly even – although Newcastle lacked bite in the final third and far too many times Riviere was up front on his own, but this lad shows a willingness to chase every ball, and he runs at the defense at the first chance he gets.
But Manchester City were probably the better side in the first half, and they went ahead with a very well worked goal down the left after 38 minutes, and Spaniard David Silva finally slotted home to put City 1-0 up at the break.
But Newcastle kept in this game, and then over the last 25 minutes the Magpies were surging forward at every opportunity, cheered on by a boisterous St. James Park crowd.
Alan Pardew brought Gabby Obertan on for Vurnon Anita after 63 minutes, and then Rolando Aarons made his debut for Newcastle when he was brought on for a hard-working Yoan Gouffran after 74 minutes.
Newcastle were starting to press City, as both Aarons and Obertan started to run at the opposing defense down the flanks.
And then Perez made his debut after 83 minutes when he came on for Riviere – who had a decent debut for Newcastle.
Sergio Aguero scores Citys second very late in the game
And in those final few minutes Newcastle had at least two gild edged chances to score when Perez ran though on the left after he had been on the field for one minute – beat his man brilliantly – and the ball would have been in the back of the net, had it not been deflected and it grazed past the post for a corner.
And then some brilliant work down the left wing saw Sissoko set up with a great chance which he blasted over the bar, when it seemed easier to stick the ball in the back of the net, and Moussa held his head in frustration.
And then what happened too many time last season – the opposition broke away and caught Newcastle short at the back, and Aguero scored City’s second.
There were a lot of positives to take out of this game, and the lads worked their socks off for the cause.
But Alan Pardew may have to think very seriously about giving Gabby Obertan, Ayoze Perez and Rolando Aarons more playing time – because they added a significant threat when they came on.
It was never a 2-0 game and with a little bit of luck we could have easily come away with a point today.
The attendance was about 1500 short of capacity.

Comment #81The only way pardew will be sacked is if we are ten points adrift after ten games…..Bottom, rock bottom of the league and he has headbutted Ashley’s mother twice in the past two weeks.
Ash has no ambition and we have discussed this to the death.
I am optimistic we can win more than we will lose. Shows you the feeling of supporting our great club!

Comment #82Also- just imagine Cabella on one side and Ben Arfa on the other. Unless the truth comes out and he’s done something awful (which he obviously hasn’t or the club would let it out to make him the baddie) then the whole things been handled awfully.
I think he is still our most talented player.
Half of this overweight/ no tracking back stuff is all hearsay and rumour mixed with a heavy load of club PR!
We don’t know what’s going on!

The difference in class tells you more about the money Citeh have spent and the money they have to do it.
Lay off Pardew and give him some space, he’s got to do what he cam with what’s available to him.

Comment #87Anyone not taking positives from that match is deluded. A bit of luck and composure and it could have been us that won. A striker and a cb away from a very good side but I expect that is it under ashley. Always gamble.

If Obertron came on to a chorus of boos then that’s disgraceful behaviour.
If those that booed are supposed to be supporting Newcastle United, they’d be better going to Sunderland!
Disgraceful…. If it’s true.

let’s wait and see on Riviere when he’s not playing city up top completely by his lonesome.
Remy was never a 15-20 goal striker in france. In fact he only had 15 one season. He’s incredibly faster than Remy and does so much more for the team so let’s see against villa and palace how he is

Comment #92Bam, indeed you’re right mate, I think if we were to continue playing the way we did for large parts of todays game, we will definitely beat the teams that are around our level and maybe take a few bigger scalps as well.

Comment #98We certainly didn’t disgrace ourselves today, we were beat by a better more experienced side.
we definitely need a quality CB and CF but MA has definitely pulled the plug on any more spending.
Going off what I’ve seen and our squad I think mid table is realistic providing we don’t get too many injuries.

Comment #99i think myself we are probably not going to see another signing this window because we see it with spurs and also with QPR, too many signing in one window can make things difficult, already we have already seen the team likely to have 5 new players in the starting 11, imagine we had a team which had only 2 players from last year still playing as a starter, it would be so confusing and i can see a very poor start happening, this is why ashley was stupid to have not bought any player in the last few windows.
if things go to plan this season will be about cabbella dejong colback janneet and rivere all fitting into the team.
maybe january could be the time for mbiwa and hadaira to start featuring more and next summer we see the back of colo saylor HBA marvo and obatan and we see there replacements coming in that summer, well atleast that is what i hope.

Comment #102My take on the match which I didn’t expect us to win but was delighted by the commitment from all the players.
Krul – Was fine but I wish he was quicker in getting the team moving.
Janmaat – Was alright but will play better.
Willo – Solid. Very commanding.
Colo – Was good but has his moments.
Dummitt – Was ok but isn’t as good as Haidara going forward.
Anita – Very good. Very tidy. Kept things moving.
Colback – Outstanding.
Sissoko – Very good. Great surging runs.
Cabella – Excellent. Will create loads of chances and score goals.
Gouffran – Excellent. Worked really hard.
Riviere – Excellent. Very powerful. Had first night nerves. Will improve. Centre backs will know they have been in a match after marking him. Fast, mobile and physical.
Obertan – Quiet initially but became effective.
Arons – Very good introduction albeit nervous.
Perez – Excellent. Pleasantly surprised me.
Hopefully Tiote and De Jong will be back for Villa. Given how well Colback played I think De Jong will be the player we need the most.
The team need to work on getting up to support Riviere as he looks like he can hold the ball and play in others.
We have a very good track record against Villa and I expect us to win convincingly. Also against Palace.

Comment #103nice to see a lot of optomism on the blog tonight , however , a few home truths are required. First , this was a typical pardew performence, a team wont win by only pl,aying 45 mins, just let me say . not for 1 minute do i blame the players, never have done, the players put in 100% sadly let down by their manager. You are not going to win a game if you fear the opposition. Pardews fear , like always , rubs off onto the players. firts half we were nervous , taking shots from 40 yds ( whats all that about) wanting rid , and making errors due to the fear pardew instilled before the game,by the way, thats why we have lost , or not won the last 10 games i think it isand all while pards has been in charge- or near enough..
Today was – sunday league v prem — men v boys, stevenage v real madrid, whatever you want to call it. we done well, – to contain them, to stop them scoring a hatful, is that really that good, dont forget , both teams are in the same league.
Remember last season when we got twonked 4-0? the excuse at the time was ‘ yeah but we were playing man city.’ i also remember no other club in the league gave them such an easy ride in the league after that , hence the reason why they were so fortunate to win it last year, so please , spare me the ‘ yeah but it was man city ‘ cry, thats an excuse – not a reason. i didnt hear the ‘ yeah but we were playing READING or yeah we were playing CARDIFF-HULL-SWANSEA.
Pardew hasnt learnt anytrhing- in fact he says in a way hes pleased we got beat , on SS1 WITH A SMILE, regardless of the meaning behind it , no one says they are pleased they got beat , regardless in which content it was intended.
I didn6t know Hart was playing untill the 60th minute, even then – he never had to make 1 single stop in all the game , not 1 – wow. couple that with the fact they could keep their best world class striker on the bench , it wasnt that important, and by the way they wernt brilliant- but good enough to get the points , there will be a lot tougher games ahead for them , just like last season.
My thoughts havnt change , 5th to 8th bottom if we have a good season, unless ashley finally does wake up and sack this cretin who coulnt manage a wa -k

Comment #108This is how NUFC judge themselves against the opposition – the size of the defeat. City never needed to extend themselves.
As for the new boys they need to spend more time in the gym – they are too lightweight for the Premier league.
