Alan Pardew was pleased with the overall performance of the Newcastle team today – and one thing was obvious – we have players who will run their socks off for the Newcastle cause, and the lads almost got a point today – and against lesser teams than Manchester City – we would have won this game.
Alan Pardew and Manuel Pellegrini pointing today
But there’s a reason why Manchester City have won the Premier League in two of the last three seasons, and that’s because they have some world-class players – and that was obvious today – especially in the first half.
But give credit to the Newcastle players who came roaring back in the second half, after being 1-0 down at half time – and with just a little bit of luck we could have taken something out of this game.
This is what Alan Pardew said to Sky Sports immediately after the game:
“It was frustrating for us because in the second half we really pushed on up and put some younger players on, who were a bit naive at times, but who threatened with their pace. We just couldn’t get that equalizer.¨
“I feel that if we could have got that then we could have gone on to win it because we looked like we had more legs in the team.¨ “We were brave, we went for it and there were some outstanding performances.¨
¨All the players were solid and Remy gave us some moments around the box that we haven’t had for a long time.” “There were a couple of times when we broke down today and perhaps rushed it, with people not understanding Manu’s Riviera runs, but that will come.¨
“But it was a really good team effort against, let’s be honest, real quality, and the quality won it today.¨ “I was pleased with a lot of the aspects of today’s game. The defence was solid and the crowd were magnificent.”
From what we saw today we need to bring in another striker, and while the defense was fairly solid, we still looked too porous at times, and we’d love for Newcastle to bring in a good center-back before September 2nd rolls around.
And it looks like Jack Colback was our best player today – and he hardly ever gave the ball away – this lad can become a great signing for Newcastle and the price wasn’t too bad either – a free agent.
It was great to see the way Jack closed players down today – and hey – this lad can become a future captain at Newcastle United.
Theres still time to vote if you haven’t already done so.

Agreed we do need a goalscorer. I like the look of Rivierre. He is in effect a Shane Long type of player. He has a decent touch, can put himself about, stretch defences and prove to be a handful.
He’s no Alan Shearer – nor even a Demba Ba or Loic Remy, either of whom could possibly have played with him had we managed to retain them.

another think with the set plays today is well we played against world class CBs.
it goes back to the same point as everything else does we played the city team so things were always going to be harder but we still all believe everything about it showed signs of a positive team the only real neg was the poor finishes but 2 of the 3 main threats were new players so probably excited to be playing.

Comment #100catchy— i agree with most things you come out with specially where pardew is concerned, sometimes though i do think some bloggers set you up to get a response. Earlier on this topic yo responded to a comment someone made about missing SDJ, what you have to realise is that most people know we cant miss him, hes never played before , but if there is a slightest opportunity for someone to make an excuse for not winning – they will , a bit like pardew really, but dont bite mate, you should know that was a wind up, humour them mate, humour them.

A good link which sums up a majority of fans views, it does highlight the need for a proven CF though which I don’t think we’ll get, such a shame that our transfer policy can’t extend beyond a business point of view, because with even no sell on value Remy would be a great asset even at 15M.

two posts from sky sports with totally different view points about newcastle
“we may have being beat but I think we can take a lot of positive’s from the game, colback ran all over pitch cabella looked good as did the glimpse of seeing Aarons and perez, unlucky today but im sure we can push on from this. ”
agree 44 disagree 5
“We just did not build fear onto our opponent except for the last 10 minutes. In another words we are not literal. When oppositions fear you, the goals would come naturally. Man City on the other hand just oozed this aura that we so blatantly lacked. We lost the game from the first minute. We were terrified to even put a punch on our opponent. (12 SHOTS not one on target) Of course creating fear requires ability too. Fluffing our chances (chipping when keeper is in position) and pumping them into the stands is like giving them relief pills, reassuring them of their imminent victory. Work rate has to be justified with results. If not it will be counterproductive to the morale of the team. Hope we can react better to the opportunities we work so hard for in the next game. It is a good effort no doubt but do you see my point? ”

BTW you can’t tick the boxes more than once so just 1 tick in the disagree box will not make up for the large number who take this positively.
