    Evening lads!

How was the game today? I am still not watching Newcastle!

  • 2 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:16 PM

Can we do British not American on this blog? “Defence” rather than “defense”.

  • 3 manxpie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:17 PM

    why jesper? very very strange!

  • 4 Our Toon // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:18 PM

    Mister tuff

Look at the 1st goal again, toure plays a ball over the top which Dzeko runs onto, Williamson is ahead of play and Colo is following the run of Dzeko. Watch it again mate, the let me know what specs you need and I’ll get em for you

  • 5 toonking // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:18 PM

colback- the fact he has came from our biggest rivals would already mean he had more pressure but from the minute the game kicked off he proved to us all he was coming to play for the club he loved and proved us wrong because he worked 100%.

in the order i would say
    colback
    gouffran
    willo
    sissoko
    cabbella
    jaanet
    rivere
    anita
    dummett
    colo

krul well didn’t have much to do but was great

nice to see a lot of optomism on the blog tonight , however , a few home truths are required. First , this was a typical pardew performence, a team wont win by only pl,aying 45 mins, just let me say . not for 1 minute do i blame the players, never have done, the players put in 100% sadly let down by their manager. You are not going to win a game if you fear the opposition. Pardews fear , like always , rubs off onto the players. firts half we were nervous , taking shots from 40 yds ( whats all that about) wanting rid , and making errors due to the fear pardew instilled before the game,by the way, thats why we have lost , or not won the last 10 games i think it isand all while pards has been in charge- or near enough..
Today was – sunday league v prem — men v boys, stevenage v real madrid, whatever you want to call it. we done well, – to contain them, to stop them scoring a hatful, is that really that good, dont forget , both teams are in the same league.
Remember last season when we got twonked 4-0? the excuse at the time was ‘ yeah but we were playing man city.’ i also remember no other club in the league gave them such an easy ride in the league after that , hence the reason why they were so fortunate to win it last year, so please , spare me the ‘ yeah but it was man city ‘ cry, thats an excuse – not a reason. i didnt hear the ‘ yeah but we were playing READING or yeah we were playing CARDIFF-HULL-SWANSEA.

Pardew hasnt learnt anytrhing- in fact he says in a way hes pleased we got beat , on SS1 WITH A SMILE, regardless of the meaning behind it , no one says they are pleased they got beat , regardless in which content it was intended.

I didn6t know Hart was playing untill the 60th minute, even then – he never had to make 1 single stop in all the game , not 1 – wow. couple that with the fact they could keep their best world class striker on the bench , it wasnt that important, and by the way they wernt brilliant- but good enough to get the points , there will be a lot tougher games ahead for them , just like last season.

My thoughts havnt change , 5th to 8th bottom if we have a good season, unless ashley finally does wake up and sack this cretin who coulnt manage a wa -k

Come on Jesp, I bet you were sat in front of a 70inch 3D telly in your boxers sipping champagne cocktails that were being brought to you by a naked top heavy waitress….

    And watching the game.

  • 8 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:19 PM

I see Cabella is getting some votes. Didn’t live up to the hype for me.

  • 9 Jail for Ashley // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:21 PM

I think Anita will make way for Tiote, but I’m not sure about SDJ, logically it has to be Gouffran but that means playing Riverie as a lone striker all season, I think that’s too much of an ask.

  • 10 Toon Tang // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:22 PM

B&B, I think the defence v defense point is to do with peoples auto correct being set to American- English. My Browsers is and I always forget and just correct it.

  • 11 Jail for Ashley // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:22 PM

    Jesper,
What a pointless exercise and to what purpose ?

  • 12 IITianToon // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:23 PM

@Toonacious T Dude I mentioned Villa and Palace because they are our next 2 opponents. But you were too eager to jump into an argument so you naturally overlooked it. Makes me mad really..

  • 13 JamesToon // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:23 PM

This has to be our team for the villa game:

    Krul
    Janmaat M’Biwa Coloccini Haidara
    Tiote Colback
    Cabella de Jong Gouffran
    Riviere

  • 14 Our Toon // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:24 PM

    Stuart

Harsh but fair in my eyes, the shackles came off in last 10 mins and we looked better though.

  • 15 manxpie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:24 PM

stuart you were negative before a ball had been kicked and throughout the game

we were playing against a team who is worth more than our club!!!

    the champions!!
and without tiote, de jong, santon, cisse and 4 players that started playing there 1st game for us

and we certainly deserved at least a draw!

  • 16 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:25 PM

Good point. Sort out your auto correct settings lads in the name of England and St George.

  • 17 Jail for Ashley // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:25 PM

    Blackley,
As with all the new signings it will take time to settle, which will buy Pardy another season at least.

  • 18 welshgeordie9 // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:27 PM

    manxpie

    Totally agree with you

  • 19 AaranD // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:27 PM

Us and Southampton today were out done by that bit of quality which separate our teams from the top 4, albeit City are a much stronger side than Liverpool :D.

I’ll say again, we have a new look side with a number missing larger parts of pre-season due to the World Cup against the same City side as last year and regardless of Aguero playing, they still had top strikers playing!

Agree on the whole Pardew negative approach to games but, that a side the PLAYERS looked good today and i’m not too worried as I think our performances will get better.

  • 20 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:27 PM

Manx…that is for you to ask and me to know!

  • 21 juan // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:28 PM

Just back from the match. Poor performance 1st half. Colback played ok but certainly not mom. Rivière up front looked useless. Williamson was crap. We’ve spent 35 million on players but not much class. We need a decent striker and replace Williamson. Can’t see this season being any better than last season.

  • 22 welshgeordie9 // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:28 PM

That’s twice in a row, Jesus I’m getting worried now.

  • 23 AaranD // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:28 PM

Oh the auto correct is sorted, just can’t stand the red squiggles!! :D

  • 24 IITianToon // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:29 PM

    @Our Toon
Before you get your optical kit out, tell me how is Colo tracking the run of Dzeko when he is not even the closest NUFC shirt to him? Did you mean to say he “tried” to track him but lost out?

  • 25 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:32 PM

    Jail

Riviere was left isolated far too long and we gave him no service. Of course Percy will take pride from staying in the game right to the end. I’d rather get beat having a go than playing it safe.

What’s the idea of having all 11 players back defending a corner? It just invites the opposition on and helps them press home their advantage.

  • 26 welshgeordie9 // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:32 PM

i don’t care what anybody says but this squad we have got now can match anybody out side the top four and those teams.

    Man City
    Chelsea
    Arsenal
    Man utd or Liverpool

  • 27 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:33 PM

Toon Tang…beside watching the game that is exactly what happened ;)

  • 28 Taking the Papiss // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:33 PM

Stuart, presumably your post is a wind up or do you just not want us to do well that much?

You have just claimed it was Pardew’s fault Riviere shot from 40 yards? Presumably also his fault that Perez’ shot took a deflection and that Sissoko skied it? Ridiculous

This was a decent performance against the best team in the league. If we play like that all year we will be top 8. Cabella had a good game and once de jong is in the team he should get a bit more space. Tiote in next to colback will also make a big difference. If you cant be positive after that then you dont want to be positive.

  • 29 proud2bnufc // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:34 PM

Sissoko on a bench next match !! Poorest man on a pitch ! de Jong with Coleback and Tiote should be OK. Cabella and Gouffi or Aarons better on left side or… play with two on front – Manu & Perez.

  • 30 gazzaforever // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:34 PM

Baaa baaa sheeps say :dont be negative, support the team baaaa. Fcking wnkers who dont know soccer even if he was slamming his dck in their faces. The only player who could have score and done damage today is HBA. Pardew is a fcking disgrace.

  • 31 AaranD // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:35 PM

Put it this way, better start than last bloody season! :D

Though it couldn’t of been any worse, next few games will show what Pardew and the team are all about this season.

  • 32 Taking the Papiss // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:36 PM

Also we played counter attack against City and in the first half had a few decent openings (many more in second half). If you want to go all out attack against city you have no chance of winning they will rip you to shreds. Chelsea played them on the counter rather than attacking them and look at their squad.

  • 33 toonking // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:36 PM

    JFA

colback dejong and rivere are going to make things quite interesting really.

if rivere can’t manage playing as a lone striker then we might have to revert back to the basic 4-4-2 or bring in a decent striker.

when you look at how well colback played today it would be a disappointing thing to see him get dropped, so the problem we have here is tiote and sissoko because if people don’t accept sissoko going out wide then it might be better to drop tiote. If that isn’t accepted then it could result in us having to drop de jong and have cabbella and gouffran out wide with rivere in the middle.

the best formation could be 4-1-3-2

    ___________krul
    jaanet__colo/mbiwa_willo_dum/had
    _____________tiote
    sissoko_______colback_____cabbella
    __________rivere____dejong

    or 4-2-3-1
    ___________krul
    jaanet__colo/mbiwa_willo_dum/had
    _______tiote___colback
    sissoko_______dejong_____cabbella
    ___________rivere

4-3-3 looks the hardest to set up if dejong is going to start

    ___________krul
    jaanet__colo/mbiwa_willo_dum/had
    ____sissoko___tiote___colback
    cabbella_____rivere/dejong__dejong/gouffran

basically either dejong would have to play as the main striker or be put out wide, he seems to want a number 10 so 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-3-2 seems best for both SDJ and rivere

  • 35 Jail for Ashley // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:36 PM

    Lesh,
If you’re about, I disagreed with Shola getting boo’d but he was one of our own, Obertan should hang his head in shame everytime he leaves that pitch, and as the boo’s were apparently audible all around the stadium then I think a few people think the same thing.

  • 41 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:39 PM

    Juan

A bit harsh to say Riviere looked useless. He was a victim of Percy’s tactics.

Colback pressed, tackled, and passed and with right foot and left. Impressive display.

Anita was a liability at times, failing to track their runners into our box. Footballing suicide.

  • 42 Our Toon // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:40 PM

    Tian

The ball is played over Williamson, Dzeko has peeled off him and run into space, Colo has followed the run, Williamson turns and runs towards his goal and then doubles up on Dzeko….Both defenders got attracted to the striker and the space was left behind as Janmaat didn’t follow Silva. Watch it again and tell me if I’m wrong please

  • 43 Toonacious T // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:40 PM

    @IITianToon dude
My bad dude. Was probably still pi$$ed after the game mate. I see where you are coming from now. Just think we have much bigger potential to grow than those to other clubs. Still, you are right. I was too quick to snap. Apologies.

As far as I could tell, it was the City fans who booed Obertan.

My biggest criticism of Obertan is his apparent lack of true desire. He prefers to sit out wide and watch on rather than venture into the box to get a goal. When you need someone to step up and make up the numbers in the box, Obertan doesn’t want to know.

  • 50 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:45 PM

tequila…ohh that one! I think I just skipped that one.

  • 51 Spud // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:46 PM

hey, im new to blog blog. its good to see others fans view of the game. really don’t think we deserved to lose. city looked very poor which make the defeat worse. looked as if we were trying to contain city in the 1st half, then go for it in the 2nd. if we continue playing that well ill be very happy.

I think we would really benefitted from tiote playing as it would have let sissoko attack more, cabella looked confident on the, janmaat was very good attacking, his delivery into the box was a bit poor but hes didn’t play much in pre season so hopefully it just a couple of games to get used to the league.

one mistake today I thought was playing dummett over haidara, he looked really nervous. when the ball came to him it was as if he didn’t want it. I don’t think he is good enough, he doesn’t have the pace to deal with some the the better teams in to league. he needs to improve quickly to make a real claim to be in the squad, never mind the team!

  • 52 manxpie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:47 PM

jesper well its very strange ya spend every day on a nufc blog talking about the team and then not actually watch them but i suppose it means your oppinions don’t mean shit in regards to the actual players and match days or anything to do with the team really so again very very strange!

  • 53 Blackley and Brownlie // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:48 PM

    Ketsbaia

Anita wasn’t at the races. If you were at the match, you might have noticed that he tracks back so far and then stops and ball watches. I was expecting better from him this season. No surprise to see him substituted.

  • 54 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 17, 2014 at 7:50 PM

All our strikers are on a par.

    Mister tuff

Is the ball played over willo? Yes

Does he turn and run back towards his own goal? Yes

Is Colo already following Dzeko? Yes

Are both defenders to blame? Yes

The biggest problem we have is the lack of communication between the defenders, if they speak to each other they’d ensure little errors would be cut out!!

  • 72 Thump // Aug 17, 2014 at 8:04 PM

@Kets: Colo over Willo? Really? For their first goal, Willo was marking the lad and Colo dropped his man and ran straight to the ball, easy pass, easy finish. Come to think of it, I think Colo only did one piece of defending the whole game, and that was a last ditch block in front of Krul.

When you watch on tv, you’re not able to appreciate the game anywhere like you can when you’re there. The cameras follow the ball around. You don’t see the off the ball positional play. From the stands you can appreciate the dangers and opportunities and who is and who isn’t alert to them.

  • 74 Ketsbaia9 // Aug 17, 2014 at 8:05 PM

It’s frustrating. We’re 4 players away from having a top 4 team. Impressed with Riviere. Cabella looks an intelligent player and is an excellent passer. Great signing.

  • 78 musomag // Aug 17, 2014 at 8:10 PM

I agree we didn’t deserve to lose today, certainly a lot of positives to take from that game.

Cabella just didn’t fear City at all and if Rivierve can find a bit of composure over the next few weeks he will do really well for us.

Colback? I called this from the start when people were kicking off about him…this kid will play his heart out for ‘his’ club, he is a cracking signing who doesn’t go MIA in big games. If he keeps it up and stays injury free he will totally own the middle of the park. Could he be a future Captain Colback? Let’s see…

  • 79 xXZach // Aug 17, 2014 at 8:10 PM

    manxpie,
I get what youre saying but at least he has the pace to get back when he attacks, plus with colback playing a CDM role, we have some good cover as he played left back a bit when he played for the mackems

  • 81 potski // Aug 17, 2014 at 8:27 PM

    Thump

That’s wrong. Colo was marking Dzeko who had pulled into a slightly deeper position, then turned and ran behind Williamson. Colo followed the run, and closed him down making sure he did not get a shot off.

Unfortunately Williamson also went towards Dzeko, and I guess this might have been ok defending, to prevent Dzeko doing anything with the ball. But let’s allow for the fact that the back heal was superb and picked out the run of Silva. If Dzeko hadn’t pulled that off, had to get the ball under control and try to shoot or pass, then there was little danger.

I think you sometimes have to give credit to the quality of the opposition, rather than blaming the defenders all the time, like Toon Botherer.

If there was any mistake it was that no-one closed down Toure and allowed him to pick out the pass over Williamson with just the right weight for it not to carry through to Krul. Nevertheless, one of the real positives from the game and the Sociebad game was that Cabella really works hard on and off the ball. Bye bye Ben Arfa. Great knowing you but your time is over. Find another team in a lesser league where attacking players don’t have to close down the opposition. That’s what happens when you allow people like Toure to have time on the ball.

    Some different views tonight
For anyone who thought Newcastle where poor ,go have a word with youtselfs
The only tging I could a asked was a goal
    For me we looked comfortable
It took a eden dzeko splitting back heel to beat us
Yes we could of defended it better but cant you say that about every goal
We only conceded late on as we had to chuck the kitchen sink at them

Cabella looked class, great on the ball. Rivière holds up the ball quite well too. It’s great to see Obertan playing well too.

Haven’t seen Newcastle play this well in a couple years. Very excited! I thought Colback was caught out of position a couple times so I pick Cabella as top man. Still, they all did amazing. Imagine Tiote and de Jong in the mix! I think we can bring it to Everton and Spurs for a top 6 finish!

    Blackley & Brownlie @49

Some Newcastle fans around me booed Obertan when he came on. Awful really.

    Catchy.

    Were you at the match?

Why ask? No real reason other than to wonder why your anti-Pardew message seems out of kilter with the majority of views I’ve seen on here?
