The Manchester Evening News are reporting that Newcastle are preparing a double bid for center-back Micah Richards and winger/striker Scott Sinclair of Manchester City.
Scott Sinclair – available from Manchester City
There was some news a few days ago that Newcastle had bid £4.2M for Michah Richards, so maybe that had soem truth in it, but we may also be bidding for Scott Sinclair, and both players have been made available by City.
We did put out an article yesterday wondering whether we should go after striker John Guidetti and Scott Sinclair on loan, since both had been made available by manager Manuel Pellegrini, and he added that it was important that some of his younger players started to play again.
That will not happen at City, whose squad is just too big for this season, and therefore there could be some good deals available from the reigning PL Champions.
And Newcastle certainly like a good deal, as we all know.
Michah Richards – Man City defender
We mentioned before that one of the problems with City players is they are on very high wages, and that makes it very difficult for the Manchester club to unload some of the players they don’t want any more.
Maybe Newcastle could turn that to their advantage by getting a (really) good deal from City for those two players – either permanently or on loan for the season.
Whether we will be willing to pay their current wages is another question, but if the players really want to play, they should be willing to accept lower wages, and start plying their trade again.
Both players have no futures at Manchester City and they know it, so a decent bid by Newcastle to City, and a decent wage package to each of the players could see the deal completed.
We think both players would be worth signing, since Scott can score goals from the wing, and Micah Richards will have an opportunity to become a starting center-back at Newcastle, a position we have looked weak in for at least the last couple of seasons.
We also thought striker John Guidetti might be a decent loan signing, but it looks like Feyenoord are moving in for him – and of course from 2011-2012 John scored 20 goals in 23 appearances for Feyenoord while on loan in Holland.
It’s not surprising the Dutch side are interested in him again – probably on another loan deal.
What do you think?

Comment #81I’ve just smuggled a replacement manager in from Scotland. Shhh everybody!!! It’s a surprise for Mike. His name is Kevin Keegan. He has some strange ideas like giving the manager power to run the club but I like the sound of him! Let’s give him a try Mike!!!

Comment #82We’ve got some good young lads in the squad now but we need a manager to bring them along. Alain Perdue has had his time, more than enough of it actually. And Carver looks absolutely miserable on the bench. Probably sick of listening to Perdue’s drivel.

Comment #83I like the look of Riviere and Cabella. Lots of talent there. Riviere in particular will need some time. Perez is very young but also looks promising. A decent midfield but the same pairing at CB will be a problem for us.

Comment #85Maybe we should concentrate on buying mainly foreigners with splashing out on 1 or 2 decent English chaps as well each summer.
Our English players are shocking apart from Aarons. It’s not good enough.

Comment #93I expect Tiote & HBA to be sold as close to the end of the transfer window as possible. That way, NUFC will get money in without any chance of spending it on replacement players.
Hopefully I’ll be proved wrong!

Comment #94I don’t mind if Tiote is sold as I think Anita and Sissoko are better. We also have Colback in that position.
As long as we get in a centre, an attacking midfielder and a top class striker, I’ll be pleased.

Comment #96With all due respect to Sinclair, I’d much rather have our very own HBA, back in the team and playing the way we know he can.
Him and Cabella on either flank could be devastating.
Whatever the problem is, and I am quite convinced that both HBA and Pards are at fault, ratifying the problem is in the best interests of Newcastle United.
To be honest I couldn’t give a damn who is in the wrong, Pards as manager has the responsibility to sort it out.

Comment #101I’d love the end of the transfer window to close with the Toon signing Alderweireld and getting Nastasic on a loan with buy option.
Having that kind of quality at the back, added to those we’ve already signed would give us an excellent chance of a top 6 place and make challenging the top 4 a real possibility.
Though unlikely, It also wouldn’t be impossible, especially given that our net expenditure is negligible and the tv revenue last season was so high.
Oh to have that kind of team to build on. one can dream.

Comment #103Great team Ketsbaia. Sadly I don’t think Benteke will Join us , and I m not too sure about Grenier, he s always injured and had 2 good games last years. He s not Cabaye at all, he s not the same kind of player and people here just dont know him. He s good at freekicks , that s the only thing he has in common with Cabaye, but he doesnt defend and he s inconstistent. Cabaye is living a nightmare in Paris btw.

Comment #104switch365…the from is a guy like our coach will always put his ego before the club!
…he is a grown man in charge of a bunch of kids and their future. If hr was a strong character it would be easier to respect him – but I suppose not even LvG or the Special One would act like this?
…or head but another player or fault language other managers. I don’t even think he believes he is doing something wrong…ever! That is hubris for you.
And with hubris comes nemesis!

Comment #113Why are people so keen on Sinclair? He couldn’t get into a West Brom side that struggled all season! Pepe Mel came out and said he wasn’t doing enough in training to get into the team, and on a number of occasions, the match day squad. Sound familiar to a player we already have? HBA is 10 times the player Sinclair is, so why would we want a poorer version of him, aptitude and all?

Comment #118we just bought 9 players, I don’t know where to fit in for more additions to the squad. We have to sell first then see if we still need new addition(s), otherwise the squad will be too fat like MCity.

I think Richards is an improvement on what we have in that area, and offers back up at right back which we are lacking. His injuries could be a worry, but no more so than Saylor and Colo over recent years. I would much prefer the club to be aiming higher and looking for something more than just capable for the centre half role. We need someone commanding, strong, and a good footballer who can lead the line. These don’t come that cheap, so unlikely we will get one at this stage. Based on all that, I would take Richards.
Toon kk,
There was a lot of that last summer over centre forwards, I think most of our buys have been decent this summer, but we still need a couple more in. Just because we need them in doesn’t me we should sign any old player going though. Richards improves us a bit, Sinclair offers absolutely nothing new to the squad.

the Richards 3 or 4 years ago maybe improvement, but now I doubt it. He hasn’t played much.
He hasn’t done anything that earn him a chance to play, that means he didn’t fight for his place or not good.
If we want to improve CB, then there are a lot of CB we can buy other than Richards, who is better and cheaper.
