Newcastle To Announce Tenth Signing Tomorrow

5:12 pm, Saturday, August 23rd, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 95 Comments

There’s potentially good news for Newcastle fans, as Neil Warnock has said he expects Newcastle United to make their tenth signing of the summer tomorrow.

neil warnock qpr

Neil Warnock – Newcastle to announce 10th signing tomorrow

The former manager of Leeds United and QPR has managed 13 teams in his management career, and he told Robbie Savage and Darren Fletcher on BT Sport earlier today that Alan Pardew had told him of Newcastle’s tenth signing.

Neil made his comments before Newcastle’s disappointing 0-0 draw today at Villa Park, when once again we missed several chances to score, and we are still looking for our first goal of the season.

The first two games have shown we need to get a guaranteed PL goalscorer into the side, and we have to hope that a top striker is the player we will announce tomorrow.

We are also assuming that what Neil is saying is accurate – of course.

Here’s hoping – fingers crossed.

Now here’s the question – who could it be?

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

i’d be quite happy with Welbeck if he;s played as a ST

  • 6 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:16 PM

Great what are the odds it will be Danny f**king Welbeck…..
Need more than one, still need a CB

    108toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:13 PM

    Honest assessment? No holding back?
    It was utter shite

No real positives to take from it
We’ve lost Willo now through suspension which trust me on today will be a big loss as he was covering himself Dummett and Colo
Janmaat looked good as did Colback so once again our best performers were at the back…
Cabella looked a bit lost through the middle, looked more comfortable when De Jong came on and he moved wide left
Sissoko looked poor when he came centrally, if Tiote goes we most definitely don’t want him to take up his position
Gouffran was abysmal, no other words for him really just awful
Rivière doesn’t look like a CF who can lead the line, I’d be tempted to start vs Palace with Perez upfront and De Jong just behind him as Perez has looked very lively for us
Anita was poor today Dummett was woeful

As for Pardew, got his subs massively wrong imo, De Jong should of been on from half time and Perez came on too late only to hoyed off 10 minutes later for Taylor
All in all a massive failure to a) build upon a decent midfield performance vs Citeh and b) deliver on his promise of a more exciting attacking performance

If we sign Danny Welbeck I’d be devastated.

    He is bonk!

We just got rid of Shola why buy Man U’s version?

    Pardew will love him

  • 9 dazzler // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:20 PM

I wouldn’t mind Danny welbeck as a squad player he’d improve us, but he’s most certainly not the 15+ goal a season striker we desperately need, personally if he’s brought in as that I’d rather save my dosh and pray cisse finds his shooting boots. Squad player, yes though.

  • 10 ilovetoon8788 // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:21 PM

Another United reject? When will we ever learn?

  • 11 cyprus // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:21 PM

Welbeck? Proven goal scorer? Not really.

I’m dreading we give HBA to a PL team and then he’ll proceed to spank us every game. If he must go, make it Milan or something.

Can the manager get this group of people playing football? Really hope so. Having seen almost all teams up to now, as usual there are no pushovers out there.

  • 12 JackButler // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:21 PM

If the stories that are being circulated are to be believed then Utd will not sell the lad to a top six club (we are a million miles away from being a top six club) and we all know that Pardew loves to stand by a reject

  • 13 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:21 PM

    What I took from today:

. M’biwa, Aarons & HBA should have been on the bench .

. De Jong should have started

. Willo is a decent defender but so uncomfortable on the ball, its like watching bamby trying to have a kickabout and all he does is hoof it .

. We only really dominated the game for a 10 minutes spell in the second half .

. Sissoko was poor and is wasted on the wing IMO.

. Cabella showed some good touches again, but if his name was Hatem he would have been slated .

. Having a good season entirely depends on us bringing in a quality striker as Rivierre (although talented) isn’t good enough IMO .

. 4-2-3-1 doesn’t work as our striker always looks isolated, although it could change with De Jong coming into the team .

. Pardew blatantly dodged the HBA question and I still hate the bloke .

  • 14 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:22 PM

Also Dummet isn’t fit to lace Haidara’s boots .

  • 15 baloo // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:22 PM

Has anyone else noticed the number of 50/50 balls Sissoko shy’s away from.

tads…thanks for the update. I did see Willo go send off (not good 🙁 )

…also saw our first sub was at 69 min. The coach is leaving it too late once again I think to change the game.

Seems it’s the same old same old?

  • 18 toonking // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:24 PM

ajex can do it but holland can do well in world cups too.

dortmund can do it but germany can do great in world cups too

athletico can do it but spain can do well in world cups too.

newcastle however are in a league called the barclays premier league and that is in england, sadly england are an awful side nationally and have been for years.

    city- spend massive amounts
united- always been a massive club
liverpool-great team but alone with united are the biggest teams in england
chelsea-again the work of a rich owner
arsenal-not spending much but a great youth system, something never have not repaired since the SJH and KK era in the 90s, a clue “dummett should not be starting” “saylor sh1t” “don’t bring carroll back” “sammy another shola”
everton- the best route to follow really they are good team now but have been a yoyo club for decades, That is all fine but unfortunately you need to be patient which sadly we aren’t which leaves us with 1 choice, we have got to be bought by a billionaire who provides the money that them great managers wants.

  • 19 optimistic prime // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:25 PM

Danny Welbeck would be lucky to score twenty in 5years.

Check his record out nearly 200starts and you’ll be lucky if he’s scored 25.

He was crap at Sunderland and didn’t even look good in a crap side.

As bad if not worse for Englsnd and Man U, I’d rather sell two players and not replace them than get Welbeck on a free!

  • 20 JackButler // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:25 PM

    Big Pappa

The fact that he is persisting with Dummett should tell you everything you need to know about Pardew, last season we had Santon having mare after mare and still keeping his place.

What talent we do have at this club is completely wasted on a manager who isn’t fit to manage in the top flight

  • 21 WWSBRD // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:26 PM

HBA who hasn’t trained with or featured for the first team on months should of been on the bench? Not sure I could agree with that

As for Welbeck I’d bloody have him he’s a top 8 striker imo

  • 22 catchy in norway // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:26 PM

for me it was the same as last week,

lots of endeavour , so that means we were unlucky ,

in reality , we were not that good, not sure if they train with goals in training or play some kind of rugby where all they need to do is get it over the line , because their crap at the final third stuff,

Williamson for me was poor , he can not head the ball , if anyone says he can they need to pay closer attention , he always goes in with the top of his head and very rarely uses his forehead , so the guy has no control over where it will end up,
first yellow was a poor ref decision , second was a professional foul,

goofy was shocking throughout , a total waste , I thought he would have been subbed at some point , but classy pardew subbed the sub who had fresh running legs and in his 15 minutes of football this season has offered more than goofy 2 full games ,

    a truly shocking decision ,

Villa are a poor poor side , and this should have been a banker with what we have, but at time it was two lost teams out there running and paid to much money to do so,

SDJ has a touch of shearer about him for me, just the way he strikes the ball , but should have been on at HT

    sack pardew

  • 23 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:26 PM

Probably a loan signing that will have no real impact what so ever!

  • 24 Mickalonius // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:27 PM

In case anyone was actually watching the match today, we did not lose 4-0. We got an away point. We had four shots on target and were in control for the majority. Our finishing could be better and when team gels I think it will. I do think we need a striker but we will see. I thought we are far better then Villa. Negativity is beyond belief.

  • 25 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:27 PM

Tbf who ever we start at LB doesn’t make a difference, Santon, Dummett, Haidara all utter shite defensively
The only reason people want Haidara is because he looks decent going forward, defensively he’s just as poor as the others

  • 26 kevymartins // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:27 PM

Pardew has it all wrong like. We need wingers.

  • 27 Average_Contents // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:27 PM

  • 28 JackButler // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:28 PM

Is Welbeck the answer for us?

Personally don’t see him as the man to get the goals we are gonna need this season

  • 29 catchy in norway // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:28 PM

what about my team selection at the begining you asked for

I wanted 442 with the MF pushed higher up the pitch

the game was crying out for that

I said no goofy or sissoko

  • 30 Mickalonius // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:29 PM

Interesting your not talking about shots on target Catchy ? Strange you’ve not mentioned it.

  • 31 bladeuser // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:29 PM

I would take welbeck anybody over the frenchy who if the goal was stretched to both corner flags would put his shot out for a throw in

  • 32 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:29 PM

Agree that no matter what you think of him as a player, he hasn’t trained or kicked a ball in the PL for months
Not sure what difference people think he would of made

  • 33 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:29 PM

Catchy…from what I could read Villa was shocking which should give us opportunities and room to do something. But it didn’t?

I am just shocked that the coach don’t seem to learn at change his approach to this lovely sport he is just killing softly!

I he doesn’t like it why doesn’t he take up synchronized chess or something 😀

  • 34 JackButler // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:30 PM

I think Haidara is the best of a bad lot tbh, Dummett and Santon are both poor but continually get played while Haidara is always overlooked, when at least with him in the side we will have a more potent attack down the left

  • 35 jesperfuglsang - capt'n awesome of the lemon crew // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:31 PM

Shots on target? My app says 3 for Newcastle and 1 for Villa!

  • 36 optimistic prime // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:31 PM

The most solid LB we’ve had since Enrique left is Raylor and he’s not the best player in the world.

But that speaks volumes about Santin,Dummet and Haidra

Out the 3 I’d play Haidra cos at least the lad looks like he’ll improve the other two won’t IMO

  • 37 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:31 PM

    Your team selection?
You mean the one with HBA in who hasn’t played in months and had MYM in at CB despite being injured?

    Aye mate canny

Where do you think we can finish this season?

  • 39 catchy in norway // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:31 PM

go and take your head for a shake man

last week it was we were playing the champions

today we were playing a team tipped by many to really struggle,

yet your happy with a point , these games you go and take 3 points , you push your team high up the pitch and punish them

pardew was happy with a point from the start

  • 40 Mickalonius // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:32 PM

Except Jack, Haidara cannot defend which is kind of important, being as he’s a defender

  • 41 JamesToon // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:32 PM

Newcastle need to emulate ajax/atletico/dortmund in order to become successful under Mike Ashley

  • 42 beefman13 // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:32 PM

It will be interesting who this new signing will be, i would not mind Hernandez from Man Utd, it may be the lad Guidetti from Man City, maybe Welbeck who is decent all round imo, maybe a centre half it should be interesting.

Can i just add young Dummet seems to be taking a bit of flack on here, and while it was a mixed bag today he put in our best crosses, some good tackles, and put a lot of graft in, he lost possession once or twice but i think he is unfairly getting singled out, Haidara is fine but he is nowt owa, Dummet is a pure geordie lad, who gives his all, lets get behind him just a bit eh!

  • 43 cyprus // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:32 PM

Actually our shots on target record (4) is a worry. We just don’t get enough chances. Goals for will be a worry, unless we get in a real CF. Maybe that Shacktar guy can do the job? Siem looks alright, a little slow (see Nolan) but good positioning.

  • 44 JackButler // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:33 PM

Defensively he’s as good as both Santon and Dummett imo

  • 45 sparky55 // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:34 PM

Just got back from Villa and maybe I’m getting old and have suffered too long under this utterly sh!te manager we have in the form of Pardew …but I honestly think Welbeck is a very good player who presses very well and can score…

…he does play for England doesn’t he?

  • 46 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:34 PM

We may have more attacking threat (not overly sold he really brings much going forward tbh) but we’ve conceded more goals per minute with him playing than the others
Would rather see Jonas or Raylor there than any of them 3 tbh
Said earlier, the minute we found out about Santons injury we should of shipped out either Dummett or Haidara and bought a LB in

  • 47 catchy in norway // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:35 PM

you asked me what team I would have played

I told you the team would have picked and played and how I would have played them,

it’s not my fault pardew will not do what’s best for the club,

the fact is , your only saying that because you know I’m right

I was going to say some times your a fool , but I think most time your a fool

    but there u go

  • 48 Mickalonius // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:35 PM

Any away point is useful, I think we could and should have won it but for poor finishing which suggests that (as I said last week) we need a proven goal scorer. You said we didn’t, we just needed to show more attacking play, we did, but we didn’t finish… We had half a dozen chances to win. Your right about Villa they are rubbish.

  • 49 WWSBRD // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:35 PM

    Is anyone going to be?

Cisse I have hopes for upon his return Siem, if they click, could rebuild that man back to where he briefly was. But Welbeck is hard working, team player decent hold up play, enjoys lay off has improved his finishing, gets in good positions and draws defenders into areas they don’t want to be plus he’s available English and 23

  • 50 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:36 PM

Who knows where we will finish, we still look like a complete Jekyll and Hyde team

  • 51 WWSBRD // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:37 PM

  • 56 beefman13 // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:38 PM

Got to say Janmatt seems to have a good eye for a goal and was unlucky not to score today, he seems to settling in very quickly, looks a very good signing to me.

  • 57 JackButler // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:40 PM

I think it’s more about Pardew playing a side that see’s the midfield link with the striker rather than simply looking for a new striker, our first two game have seen Riviere isolated and lost as he’s had zero support, not what you want when you are new to the league

  • 58 optimistic prime // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:40 PM

    Jack butler

    What are they?

Never heard of them before, are they part of football?

  • 59 toonking // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:41 PM

i think you could be right, raylor was a great player at LB, another one i think was great is perch.

perch, raylor, best, nolan and barton are all players i think this side miss massively.

at the minute i would say our best two players are colback and willo.

wait a minute did i just say colback and willo are our best two players!
the thing about our club is we are miles away from looking like an attractive club for big names weather that be players or managers.

they all want wages and CL, two thing which we ourselves never provide also the players cost large sums not cheap prices we want to spend, so that is where the raylor best colback willo and perch were great.

these don’t have the pressure fealt by those who we see bought.

fans were ruling colback off before the first game of the season and getting very hyper abot cabbella yet cabbella is still to create the chances and colback has been the best player so far.

  • 60 toonarmydownsouth // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:41 PM

Yeah and you named a team with an injured CB and someone who hasn’t played for 6 months
As for stating how they would play you simply said you’d have them play higher up the pitch
I’ll take your word you listed it as a 4-4-2 because it didn’t look like it, you hardly put out a comprehensive scouting report!

By all means name the team you would of played with available players but ffs MYM is injured, HBA hasn’t trained or played
If we could just name whoever we’d all have Messi and Ronaldo in the line ups!

  • 61 JackButler // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:41 PM

    optimistic prime

According to twitter they are quite an important part of the game 😉

  • 62 WWSBRD // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:42 PM

If he’s available on loan he’s available for the right price as far as I am concerned. Not sure what LVG would learn from the lad being on loan at this point and as I could care less what we spend on players I don’t care what that price tag is.

I reckon for calibre of strikers we can attract he is right up there for me

  • 63 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:43 PM

Also you can bet your bottom dollar Pardew will be picking Taylor over M’biwa with Willo out .

Yes, Stevie Taylor over a title winning French international CB . Textbook Pardew .

  • 64 bladeuser // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:43 PM

The new signing is a player who went to the world cup and is a proven goal scorer his stats r a goal every seven games and two shots on target every five games and he knows nufc inside out and is fantastic in the dressing room

  • 65 Big Pappa Cissé // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:43 PM

Also, was Gouffran even on the pitch today ? .

  • 66 anthc // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:43 PM

I thought roy keanes influence showed today with cabella getting a few kicks.
I also thought sissoko was poor today with his wayward passing and looking a bit lethargic.
Playing with one up front is difficult as we can’t seem to get in the box quick enough.
We had the better chances though and should’ve won. Cabella de jong and even Janmaat had great chances to score.
Really need a win against palace next week to get us up and running.

  • 67 anthc // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:44 PM

And as for wellbeck no thanks!

  • 68 WWSBRD // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:45 PM

Tbf we have been without Siem who is that link, we have no one else who can do that role imo Cabella drifts too much. De Jong is primed to be the heart of the team it’s what he was brought in for as far as I can tell

  • 69 davetoon // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:46 PM

@Graeme.. I agree with what what you say but I just remember back to when Ashley bought the club and was necking beers in the stands… and bearing his gut with the fans.

All I’m saying is I think if someone offered Mike a way back to that, it would ease some of the ‘f**k it, its just business thought’ that i reckon is the club at the minute

  • 70 Laurent Robert 32 // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:47 PM

    Too king

I’d have Barton back just so he’d tackle Pardew.

    Jack butler

Has anyone told Pardew about those goal thingymebobs?

The whole time Pardews been here we’ve isolated the CF and expected them to do everything alone, shearer drogba and even big dunc would struggle up front in our side ATM

  • 72 WWSBRD // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:48 PM

Tbf mate have u seen MYM recently? During preseason he was terrible and that’s when, after a crap season for him, he should be throwing his hands up screaming here boss look am ready…I was championing him but times running out for him to actually show anything to prove he deserves to be in the first team

  • 73 toonking // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:53 PM

i think signing a striker on loan could be the best thing we ask for. i want a top striker signed permanently but if this FCB doesn’t insist on spending 15-20 on a quality striker we might as well just bring in a loan signing because atleast that will provide us with the striker we all want and unless it also has a clause stating permission to buy for a price, then we drop him onto the bench when cisse returns to full fittness.

  • 74 catchy in norway // Aug 23, 2014 at 5:55 PM

let’s face it the HBA situation is Pardews fault , if he is fit enough and not injured he should have been in the team ,

your taking Pardews word about the whole HBA situation , well this is a fact , towards the end of last season , pardew said he did he could not pick HBA because he was injured , HBA held a press conference to announce he was fit,
    HBA is banished,
the fact that pardew prefers saylor to mym is the reason mym was not there today,

the fact that tiote is up for sale is the reason he is not playing, if he is not sold in time, he will suddenly become fit, the same way mym will be on the bench next week and will probably even play in the cup game

what did you want from me, a full report on how each should play for 90 mins

I picked the team which was 442, and said they should play higher up the pitch, it’s in black and white for all to see

the only thing you could have picked me up on was I had sissoko in for collback which I changed in minutes,

  • 75 Mickalonius // Aug 23, 2014 at 6:06 PM

Hey Laurent, don’t for get to mention we lost Cabaye, Sissoko and Remy for most of the second half of last season, oh wait, that would be using common sense, instead of rattling out meaningless stats..

  • 76 Mickalonius // Aug 23, 2014 at 6:07 PM

What is wrong with Danny Welbeck he is a decent striker. Better than these foreigners they keep bringing in.

Lets face it today we were crap AV were there for the taking but this is Newcasltle one man in the box & no one else within 25 yards of the box , crap tactics from a crap manager.Sorry Mr Ashley time to get rid.

Some on here can argue a point like the Ben Arfa debate or the Taylor v M’Biwa argument? The discussion on the need for two up front is also interesting and even the call for Sissoko to be pushed further forward, but please leave Jack Colback alone. He was class today as he was last week. He lost possession once today, yes once, and before we get you all started on the sideways, crab like passing, just watch the lad. First and foremost he makes it a priority to keep possession but always looks for the offensive ball. Unlike Tiote, who incidentally I rate highly, he doesn’t lose possession trying to overdo it. Colback is fundamentally one of us and loves the shirt but will be one of those players who the unintelligent amongst us may never appreciate but you can bet his fellow professionals do. After only two games I’m bowled over by the lad and really think we’ve captured a gem and saved him from a life of misery with those lot down the road.

Doubt it will be Welbeck. Pardew wants to sign a proven striker so welcome back Shola.

  • 86 duzo // Aug 23, 2014 at 9:15 PM

Why wasn’t Chucky Ferreyra playing or even on the bench???

  • 87 switch365 // Aug 23, 2014 at 9:15 PM

Podolski with Tiote going the other way

  • 88 switch365 // Aug 23, 2014 at 9:17 PM

Chucky isn’t match-fit Duzo, only played a handful of matches last season

  • 89 toontillidie // Aug 23, 2014 at 9:46 PM

I heard a rumour that the tenth signing is Lacazette and we will be signing richards before the end of the transfer window

  • 90 whome121212 // Aug 23, 2014 at 9:49 PM

in my opinion it will be one of either Welbeck or Hernandez from Man utd as Di Maria is set to sign for them.

i also dont rate the above 2 players for NUFC as they dont have what it takes to lead the line on their own and going through 90 minutes being isolated by the opposition defence.

we need a striker who has power and pace unfortunately with the system pardew uses as they will starve of service for long periods in a match, therefore im hoping either we sign a striker with pace and power (Lukaku would have been a perfect example)or sign nobody and wait until a decent striker with the above attributes becomes available.

    @Big Pappa Cisse

I don’t think we can judge Riverie adequately when played isolated as a one out striker.

IMO a lot of Remy’s goals were very lucky in the sense that he was just had the class to finish balls that happened to spill to him out of congestion and general play.

I honestly think we need to go back to a 4-4-2 or 4-1-3-2. Having a loan striker holding up the ball is really the tactics of a defensive manager. If your going to do that then surely it would be better to play a false 9.

  • 92 Brutooon // Aug 23, 2014 at 10:17 PM

Wtih the current squad, having Remy or Demba Ba (unlikely) would be a good move

  • 93 Jinky Jim // Aug 23, 2014 at 10:26 PM

Absolutely Boring Boring football from both teams. The only good thing was that Willo is suspended. I read a comment here that Willo can not heed thu ball, that’s wrong,he can! he just doesn’t have a fek’n clue where the ball is going. Still I am going to be patient. I wonder who is going to score our first goal,my money is on Taylor.

  • 94 dannitoon // Aug 24, 2014 at 7:33 AM

A lot of numpties on here… considering all the new players we have and the obvious change in style of play yesterday was a good performance. .. played some tidy stuff.. riveire needs someone up front with him.. SDJ is now fit so we will see an improvement. So FFS calm down.. yeah no one likes P45Due but give the lads a chance… need a CCB AND need to play hairdryer

  • 95 MassiveG // Aug 24, 2014 at 8:17 AM

Let’s try and get Negredo on loan if he’s not in City’s plans.

We won’t get Manolas or Alderweirald as Man U and Arsenal are after them.
