It was a second successive game in which Newcastle looked a little toothless up front, but it was the second game in succession in which Newcastle controlled the second half, but we just couldn’t score.
Mike Williamson – receiving his red card
With tow minutes to go in the game substitute Siem de Jong had a good chance to win the game for Newcastle but his shot was well saved by American goalkeeper Brad Guzan.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Mike Williamson picked up his second yellow card of the game and was sent off and now will miss the game next Saturday at home to Crystal Palace, and there will be some pressure on Newcastle to win that game.
This is what Alan Pardew told Sky Sports after the game:
“I think a lot of the new offensive players are trying so hard and sometimes that isn’t the way to score goals.” “You need to have that super confidence.”
“We know we need to get some goals and hopefully at Gillingham on Tuesday, we can get a couple before we play Crystal Palace on Saturday, and get that one off us.”
“Obviously the last third today was not so good. I think a lot of the new offensive players are trying so hard and sometimes that isn’t the way to score goals.”
“But there was a lot of good play and a lot of good movement.” “I felt sorry for Willo, because I thought he was terrific in his distribution today and then he gets sent off.”
“Overall, to come to Villa and control the second half like we did, I’m pleased.”
Newcastle have played quite well in the first two games of the season, but there is disappointment we have picked up only one point, especially in a season when it’s very important we get off to a good start, after what happened earlier this year in the league.
Of course wins at Gillingham in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night, and a home win next Saturday against Crystal Palace will soon raise the spirits on Tyneside.

Why do I need to prove it?
You made the incorrect claim without evidence!
I’m relying on my memory if being at the matches fella!
Les signed 1 year before shearer, Tino signed in that Jan if my memory still works, 6months before shearer 🙂

one difference mate
pardew is a sh1t manager
martinez is a great manager
reading are a championship team
everton are a top 6 team.
i said it before the season even kicked off, everton is the team who’s results i would be using as part of my arguement on why it’s more than just managers that make the team.
i’ve tried putting points across relating to cappello’s time as england manager and our bad form then but you still insist on it being all about managers so now i’ll use everton because they are the team who have got this great attacking manager
they are the team who have got a europa league campaign
finally they are the team who don’t spend lots of money on players and supposedly sell lots of decent ones so we shall see how they do because i want them to finish in the top 8 this season.

Comment #128once again struggling to score goals, think it wil come but def dont think Riviere is the man to do it, def a great target man, very strong and powerful but not a great finisher, needs sum1 to play off him, sum1 like Cisse in his first season, don’t rate Anita and think Sissoko is best on the right, we looked very open today on the right with no cover for Janmaat, don’t rate Dummet, not the lads fault but he just isn’t good enuf, think Cabella is trying too hard with flicks and stepovers, would love to c us playing Ayoze more, he looks very exciting, would also give Obertan a run out as he was decent in pre season, would like to c this team start on Tuesday nite but don’t think Pardew will, prob start all youngsters

Comment #131question for all who know this club well enough
toon fans all know ashley wants to bring in players that will be sold for a profit
toon fans know ashley wants an academy that will produce youth than can be sold for millions
toon fans know ashley runs us like a buissness
great managers can create great players
great managers can bring up players from the youth
great managers would be perfect for ashley’s selling club buissness
SO
why the hell has he not appoint one when the evidence is everywhere.
fans want the manager out not the owner
fan want attack more than anything so we can be a selling club that plays like wigan
basically these fans will accept newcastle being a yoyo selling club.

Comment #132B&B, is that Brownlie speaking?
We are desperate for that illusive striker more than ever eh. Someone who can create and score a goal by themselves out of nowt.
There’s something about Cabella I don’t like as well, I cant put my finger on what though. I hope he comes good sooner than later…

Martinez is god, he plays total attacking football and lighting bolts come out his arse…… Or atleast at 2-0 he was
But now the game 2-2 is he still the same person?
God some people on here are soon fickle they would say something and then the next minute think the complete opposite. Indecisive much?
Martinez is a good manager, not an amazing one.
Pardew is an average one, basically will have us finish mid table…. Average manager with an average side.
People need to take their black and white specs off and see we have average players. Not great ones….
We have an average team, and an average manager. We also have a board who simply buy average players and accept an average finish in the Pl.
Bottom line, what do people expect?
Jose could manage our team and would not do much better, its like trying to get blood out of a stone. Why do people assume we have great players, we have potentially good players that’s about it.
Anyone who has been worth building a team around simply moves on after a season or two because we cannot keep them…..

If say it’s because we are what Ashley wants a advertising board for SD
In the champions league you can only advertise your shirt supplier and sponsor, ie wonga and puma
I’m not sure about Europa league I’ve not checked but have been informed it’s the same.
So to me Ashley has no intention of challenging for Europe as there’s no profit in it for SD unless he sponsors our shirt or one of his companies make our strip they can’t get coverage in Europe.
That’s also the reason I don’t beleive Ashley will sell us and buy Rangers.
I said the other day that we get as much coverage maybe more than top 5 in this country by doing nothing. He has the perfect advertising for his company and you couldn’t pay for better!

I do not lie to myself saying we are a massive club because quite simply…. We are not.
Average players
Average manager
A board with no real ambition
And basically sum all the above up it means we are a mid table side.
The only thing this club does have that could be classed as “big” or “massive” is a fanbase.
This club has the potential to be massive as it would sell out a 52k stadium every week if we had any remote success.
We do not sell out every game as it stands our average attendance last season shows that.
When I was younger the club used to have a season ticket waiting list in the thousands, no I could ring tomorrow and get one!!
People need to accept what the club is now, it won’t change unless MA leaves the club and a more ambitious owner is in charge….
No amount of protesting will change that….

Comment #138My sources in the club although I would take with a pinch of salt say MA will sell Newcastle upon Rangers reaching top division in the Scots League….
All this extra revenue is apparently going to be built up with the intention of paying that personal loan off to make the club more attractive proposition in a few years when Rangers inevitably reach the top divison.
That is from someone within the background of the club and as stated take with a pinch of salt.
Baring in mind alot could change between now and then, including MA intentions for this club or just his plans in general.
All I do know is this has been mentioned within the back echelon of the club, beyond that….. Who knows.

Comment #139The thing with Martinez or his stint at Everton is his play looks better because Moyes built a solid defence.
I wouldn’t judge Martinez on Everton last year, maybe end of next season when he’s had 3 yr in charge.
I always thought martinezs teams where weak at the back but people say it’s because Wigan sold all his players.
I always thought Wigan used to be great going foward but would leave holes to be exploited. I expect Martinez to do well until he has to deal with the defence then we’ll get a true reflection of his abilities.

Where Blackley goes Brownlie goes. Had a fantastic tour of Ibrox yesterday with a great old blue nose. The guy loved Gazza and told the tale of him taking the St Etienne bike from the trophy room and riding it to the training ground where he got bollocked off Walter Smith.

Comment #143I think Martinez plays attractive football but at times its abit flattering to the eye.
As you say Optimistic Prime…..
Moyes built a solid team at Everton. Barry and Lukaku on loan were basically the only signings Martinez had to make last year to play the way they did…. Perhaps Mccarthy….
He has hardly transformed them, I mean he finishes in similar positions and yet when Moyes was in charge they were defensively sound yet lacked attacking options….
Martinez is the opposite, they look a good attacking side yet defensive is debateable….
You cannot say Jagielka is a world class centre back….
Coleman is great going forward abit dodge in defense, as is Baines (as seen in WC)
Distin is a great player, albeit getting on.
This defense looked solid under Moyes, and yet looks abit dodge under Martinez…
Imagine if our defence got any worse? Lol

I would be gutted if he does. Would much rather see the back of STaylor or RTaylor before him. Both are dross.
He simply has not been given the chance. I do blame Pardew for that.
He should be our future centre back….. Partnered with a better Williamson like player for aerial threats.
Colo is getting on, Williamson is awful on the ball I mean I have never seen such a tall player be so poor (in terms of accuracy) when heading the ball. And as I said STaylor is dross.
I bet tomorrow’s supposed signing is Richards.

Pardew said he couldn’t look him in the eye when he dropped him for Colo.
He must remind Pardew how inept he is at his job so shipped him out.
Mym leaves and we couldn’t make a decent CB with the other 3 put together
Bad move IMO

Comment #150Think Cabella is exactly the same type of player as Ben Arfa to be honest. Don’t think he’s that much better put it that way.
Think he’ll be pretty inconsistent, just like Ben Arfa.
It’s pretty obvious we need a top striker like. Be interesting to see what Percy and Co do about that.
I’ve a funny feeling we’ll not sign one, and we’ll all be moaning about it for the next few months.
