The best two players for Newcastle yesterday were Daryl Janmaat at right back and midfield dynamo Jack Colback, who had another good game for Newcastle, and the local lad hardly ever puts a foot wrong in the way he passes that ball around.
Daryl Janmaat – had very good game yesterday
Daryl was out Man of the Match with 42% of the vote, and he had an excellent game and two fine efforts on goal in the second half.
A good header that forced American goalkeeper Brad Guzan to tip the ball over the crossbar, and a good left foot shot from outside the box that was only inches over the bar.
In retrospect, it looks like letting Mathieu Debuchy leave for £12M and bringing in Daryl for £5M was a really good deal for us, and it hasn’t weakened the side – Janmaat is also four years younger than Mathieu.
Jack has 24% and was as consistent as ever and now we know why his passing rate is close to 90% – he hardly ever puts a pass astray and we think England manager Roy Hodgson would have been impressed with what he saw from the Killingworth lad.
Third in the voting is Mike Williamson who was sent off near the end of the game, and will now miss the game at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, and that’s turning into a game Newcastle will need to win to get us back on track.
Colo was 4th in the voting and he had a good game at the back, and used all his vast experience.
What we missed yesterday was good finishing up front, and then we would all feel a lot better if we had managed a 1-0 or 2-0 win – but it wasn’t to be.
It was 2 points dropped yesterday for Newcastle, and it was a little surprising to us after the game that Villa manager Paul Lambert thought his team had played so well – they didn’t have one shot on target.
