There’s now just 7 days left in the summer transfer window, and Alan Pardew is hoping the window ends on a high note, and Newcastle can get one or two more players through the door before next Monday night – including a good striker.
Alan Pardew – we will not lose another top player this summer
The Newcastle boss has lost two of his best players in January transfer windows since he joined the club in December, 2010, the first being Andy Carroll back in 2011, after Pardew had just taken over from Chris Hughton.
Then last January Yohan Cabaye was also sold to PSG, and in both cases the players were not replaced.
The news of the last few weeks has been that Cheick Tiote may be leaving Newcastle this summer, but the Newcastle boss seems determined to keep a player he sees as critical to Newcastle doing well this season.
This is what Alan Pardew has said about the current situation:
“I don’t think I’m going to lose a big player and I certainly hope – fingers crossed after Andy Carroll – that continues.”
“The last two or three years, we’ve lost key players and the ones who’ve gone in just haven’t been able to carry the flag.”
“We feel we’ve done good business this summer though, and we’ve got a good solid team.”
When Cheick Tiote is playing well then Newcastle are usually playing well, and we still think the 28 year-old is an important player for Newcastle this coming season.
Arsenal are said to be interested, and they certainly need some of Cheick’s bite and physicality in defensive midfield, but we’d be surprised if Arsene Wenger does come back in for him over the next week.
We hope Cheick is still at the club come September 2nd.
