Six Changes For Newcastle At Gillingham: De Jong Starts

gillingham fcnufc emblem

Alan Pardew has made six changes from the side that drew 0-0 at Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

As expected Mehdi Abeid, Gabby Obertan and Rolando Aarons get starts – and Siem de Jong makes his first start in a competitive game for Newcastle United.

Newcastle will again play in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Riviere up front, with strikers Ayoze Perez and Facundo Ferreyra on the bench, and they could see some action tonight.

Sissoko and Abeid with be the two central midfielders,  with a threesome of Obertan, de Jong and Aarons in front of them.

Steven Taylor comes in for Mike Williamson to partner Coloccini in central defense, and we need Steven to have a good steady game tonight – it’s an opportunity for the Whitley Bay lad to prove he can still do a job for his home town club.

This is quite a strong side that Pardew has put out tonight, and the bench is also strong in case Pardew needs to make some changes in the second half – with Anita, Cabella and  Gouffran all available.

Newcastle: (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Mehdi Abeid; Gabriel Obertan, Siem de Jong, Rolando Aarons; Emmanuel Riviere
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Vurnon Anita, Remy Cabella, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez, Facundo Ferreyra

We really need to get the win tonight – anything else would be a disaster.

Howay The Lads!!

Aarons starting is a plus, hope a goal or assist from him and Riviere could use his first to boost that confidence.

Is it 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 as in is De Jong being played as striker? Guess we’ll find out.

Would have been a good game to give Perez 90 minutes.

Think we’ll win all the same.
    A brace from Obertan 0-2 🙂 😉

I’m starting a conspiracy theory that Mapou is not playing as they are trying to get shot of him before the window slams shut

Quite a decent looking bench, hopefully they’re not talking s&*’ and are gonna try for a good cup run.

M’biwa has an orange light on fantasy football which means that he has an injury I think, just throwing that out there

I believe M’biwa is injured, picked it up in training hence him being nowhere to be seen recently

I was just starting to wonder about what was with MYM not being mentioned. A training injury makes sense, but I would have expected to hear something about it earlier rather than hearing about it in the comments on the blog. It’s really too bad if it’s true as this was his opportunity to come in for Willo and prove to Pardew that he’s the man to anchor the defense. Now I don’t know if that’s what would have actually happened, but this is a pretty big opportunity that he’s unfortunately not going to be able to take.

Sissoko in the middle thank God .

Glad Aarons is starting and Haidara must be fit so God knows how Dummet is ahead of him in the PL .

aye good team but would like to see chucky play as think he’s our best striker !

would have loved bigi in abieds place also as he’s still imo ahead of abied in the pecking order.

great goal the other day from arfa btw but did anyone else notice that the whole or our team just gave up and started to turn away once arfa got the ball ? its good against the young lads who know no better but why he lost the ball so much in them prem as he’s just so predictable.

Dawson signed for hull, not that I thought we’d be after him.

All going well I’d expect to see Perez and Chucky in 2nd half, De Jong won’t be on for 90mins IMO

‘build up’ doesn’t quite ring right for this game. I’d probably use ‘preamble’. Obertan is the attacking powerhouse I see. Keeping Ben Arfa out of the minor cup games is some feat for him. Strangely-shaped hats off to him.
