Alan Pardew has made six changes from the side that drew 0-0 at Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.
As expected Mehdi Abeid, Gabby Obertan and Rolando Aarons get starts – and Siem de Jong makes his first start in a competitive game for Newcastle United.
Newcastle will again play in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Riviere up front, with strikers Ayoze Perez and Facundo Ferreyra on the bench, and they could see some action tonight.
Sissoko and Abeid with be the two central midfielders, with a threesome of Obertan, de Jong and Aarons in front of them.
Steven Taylor comes in for Mike Williamson to partner Coloccini in central defense, and we need Steven to have a good steady game tonight – it’s an opportunity for the Whitley Bay lad to prove he can still do a job for his home town club.
This is quite a strong side that Pardew has put out tonight, and the bench is also strong in case Pardew needs to make some changes in the second half – with Anita, Cabella and Gouffran all available.
Newcastle: (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Moussa Sissoko, Mehdi Abeid; Gabriel Obertan, Siem de Jong, Rolando Aarons; Emmanuel Riviere
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Paul Dummett, Vurnon Anita, Remy Cabella, Yoan Gouffran, Ayoze Perez, Facundo Ferreyra
We really need to get the win tonight – anything else would be a disaster.

Bills-son…You had JailForAshley worried sick! Let me guess, no postcards wherever it is you went? pfftt.
I don’t think people object to grafters with skill, just Pardews preference for graft with little else to back it up.
So – that’ll be why Pardew pushed to sign SDJ, Cabella, Riviere, Perez and Jamnat and why he is giving Aaarons his chance – only because they can graft with little else to back it up???
Ibiza – for a clearly smart guy what you are saying doesn’t make sense and is another of the totally over the top nonsense that is leveled at Pardew.

Comment #53Bigi is on the band list along with HBA.
If only there was a way to start obertan at all 11 positions….. i really think pardew has a malcovich malcovich dream with Obertan playing JM.

Comment #55Well that’s a strong team and he’s given some youngsters a chance too.
If we win everyone will say he should play the youngsters more, if we lose we won’t be taking the cups seriously.
Come on toon, give us a good win to set us up for Saturday!!!!

i’d have to disagree with you tbh i also watched him a hell of a lot last season and even though he stared the season very poor he greatly improved into becoming one of the main people in the last 3rd and added a lot too his game in strength/creating/shooting as well as his breakups and short passing game that he used to be known for !
abied i never watched but heard good things from greece but he’s not really impressed me in pre season enough to make me think he’s got a future here.

Comment #60You would be a fool to free transfer Bigi. He was one of the hottest talents we had. He is still young. Maybe he has had a bad year or two, but he has all the tools and the ability to be a Premier League centre midfielder, no doubt.

Comment #69How.is Dummett our 1st choice Left Back? The guy is utter shite it’s unbelievable.
Disappointed Perez didn’t get a start, he has shown more in his cameos than Riviere has in his starts. Although Riviere may score today he certainly doesn’t deserve to start. It was well reported on Sky Sports News that MYM was injured and wouldn’t be playing against Villa. Not surprised he didn’t make today bit disappointed Satka didn’t get a start ahead of final year of contract Saylor

Comment #70Toonbrother, I agree. He is useless at number 10 because he isn’t skillfull enough with his back to goal and he is a poor finisher.

Comment #75Some comments from wor Alan:
“I think we’ll give them a problem if I’m honest. But I want the supporters to be patient with us. There are going to be a lot of scrambly bits. We’re going to have to kick them around a lot. I’ll use the midget strikers if I have to. I’m not afraid of anything they can throw at us. Mike will be there watching me so I won’t be head butting anyone.”
Beautiful Alan.

Comment #77Our Toon, Satka probably didn’t make it because he played the full 90 yesterday. But surely he would have been left out of that one to be given a chance tonight.
Agree on Perez, he has looked promising. I would have started a front 3 of Perez, Chucky, Aarons. But I think Pards is desperate to win this one, hence the stronger side than previous.
