Newcastle Back In For Loic Remy

8:44 am, Thursday, August 28th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 47 Comments

News in the Chronicle today that Newcastle United still want to sign another striker over the last four days of this summer’s transfer window, but the chances of Newcastle being able to do that seem to be receding.

Loic Remy – Newcastle make new enquiry

And the new news today is that Newcastle have gone back in once again to see if we can persuade Loic Remy to sign for Newcastle, even though there has been news over the summer that he simply doesn’t want to join the club.

There has apparently been a new enquiry by Managing Director Lee Charnley, and with no big clubs coming in for him (yet), we suppose the hope is he would rather play for Newcastle in front of 50.000 gates than at a struggling QPR in front of crowds of around 17,000.

And QPR have been struggling having lost their first two league games and they were knocked out of the Capital One Cup last night, beaten 1-0 by Burton  Albion.

But as we all know Loic  has already chosen QPR over Newcastle once, basically for the higher wages he got at the small London club.

Arsenal remain potential suitors for the player, after they have found out this week Olivier Giroud’s ankle injury will keep him out of the Gunners side at least until next year.

We thought Remy would sign for Arsenal earlier this summer, but he was asking for too much in wages – even for the Gunners – so it’s clear that wages are a big part of the equation for the 24 times capped French International (5 goals).

It looks like Newcastle are letting Remy know there’s a starting position for him at Newcastle this season, should he not get any better offers before next Tuesday.

However, we would have liked to have seen more enthusiasm from the player to play in the famous black and white stripes, and Newcastle have brought in some very good players this summer and we can create chances – we just cannot score any goals at the moment. :(

But signing Loic Remy still has to be a long shot, and  if we do manage to pull it off it would still be a terrific signing for us.

We’d still take him in a heartbeat, even though his attitude to playing for Newcastle over the last few months of the season before the World Cup left a lot to be desired.

On the other side of things, that could have been his last and only chance to play in a World Cup in his football career, so it’s understandable (we suppose), that he was concerned about getting injured.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

    et toon

what is we are being patient for,

all pardew has done is move personel around , but it is the same system that he has used in all his other seasons here ,
1 up front , hold the ball and pass it around midfield , play 2 or 3 dmc , regardless of who we play and use the same free kick / corner , nock the ball up to Williamson who then closes his eyes and hits nothing,

the only difference between all the seasons he has been here is we have got of to a good start and that carries him through , this time he has not , this time we don’t look like scoring goals,

I’m not sure if it’s us who are idiots or the guys who are expecting something different when / if the new guys settle ,

scenario for you, a new manager walks into a club in jan , half the season is gone , he has to get them winning games straight away, does he turn to the media and say I need 10 games to asses things , no he works with them and finds out what’s best, now we have 7 new players in our squad, not 7 in the team , I’m sure it should not be to hard to integrate international quality players into your squad, we are talking about top professionals,

no it’s one mans problem, this happens to almost every team every year, everyone is in the same boat,

do u not find it strange how we have not scored a goal or even look like scoring ,
villa carnt score , got beat last night by a team one point better of than Gillingham
it took an own goal for us to get through , these teams are at the wrong end of league 1 , two devisions below,

    sad

Dont know what to think about this one. I eas convinced he would never kick another ball gor QPR or us again, yet there he was last weekend getting his arse handed to him on a plate, with Spurs 4 – 0 QPR Engraved on the cheeks. Yes we would benifit from his goals, but part of me still says let him rot.

    Markaccus,

I see him quite a bit out and about and you just wonder how someone with his physique can play in the EPL, I’m not saying he is a chubba but he is a big unit in the 80s style of centre backs.

He makes someone like Agger look like a Japanese racing snake!!

Remy simply doesn’t want to join the club yet we persist with the annual round of charades!

We love it, just love it!

Every Newcastle supporter must be thankful to Loic Remy for watching Premier League football in 2014-15 season.

  • 15 beermonkey // Aug 28, 2014 at 8:55 AM

    on this mornings articles

don’t see the point in going back for remy he has said no 2 3 times let him rot with soggy chops

glad to see pards realises we haven’t created enough chances for cisse, but can pards alter this, I don’t think so

mbiwa out on loan not a bad plan if he can find his form and be welcomed back next season

  • 17 Markaccus // Aug 28, 2014 at 8:57 AM

You know…. in the interests of fair debate i should say this…..

I complain when people on here blame Pardew to for everything, and manufacture arguments as sticks to beat him with, when there are plenty of real reasons… so… To be fair, i should also complain about someone who refuses to blame Pardew for ANYTHING! ….

    Ethiotoon.

Everyone is entitled to a view, no matter how skewed. If you want to be extreme in your pardew defence, you are going to have to accept extreme views against. My views are not extreme either way, but it isnt fair for you to try to dictate to the blog!

Remy saved our asses last year rememeber. without his goals we would be hosting Brentford, Rotheram, ect.. next best was 7 goals from a guy who left in Jan and 7 from gouffy. Now I agree that he messes us about alot but to get him back again may just be the tonic. I can’t see a goal coming tbh until we play 2 up front.

Personally I can’t stand the mobile site, but it may be OK on a phone.

  • 23 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Aug 28, 2014 at 9:06 AM

I would have Remy back – did a job for us last season and need a proven goalscorer this season. If his goalscoring is going to get you another 4 or 5 places up the league then is it not worth paying him what he wants or as near as possible. The end result being the money for the higher you finish and the chance to get into Europe, or dare I say it WIN a cup.

    Ethio

Just for my enlightenment what is your discription of a true fan?

  • 25 Laurent Robert 32 // Aug 28, 2014 at 9:09 AM

Ethio, what is a true fan? One who stands up against the propaganda of an owner who just wants a vessel to hawk round advertising of his company with little regard to the enjoyment of the viewer?

Or one who claps like a seal at a circus at whatever nonsense he and his puppet come out with for the sake of blind faith?

I think this is one of Fattys ploys waiting to see who blinks first, who’s the most desperate? Us or Remy?

I agree mate his goals saved us, after jan he went walk about like the rest of the toon players.

Re – People like Ethio and Mojo,

To refer to other posters as idiots demonstrates quite an alarming lack of people skills, tact and diplomacy in getting your points across.

People who can’t express themselves or socially interact and discuss current topics on a civil level always resort to name calling and can’t really be taken seriously.

  • 29 Average_Contents // Aug 28, 2014 at 9:12 AM

Pain in the arse isn’t it lads

    OP

I can answer that mate. Someone who has unwavering loyalty to parsnip aka Mr bullshit aka pinocchio aka silver tongued lothario aka slithering cretin….there that should about cover it ;-)

  • 30 Rotonda heights // Aug 28, 2014 at 9:16 AM

    Ethio

You preach about being patient. We haven’t won anything really truly meaningful since 1955!! Some people don’t really count the fairs cup only a mere 45 years ago.

With pardew the expression you can’t polish a turd seems particularly apt.

  • 31 optimistic prime // Aug 28, 2014 at 9:17 AM

Glad you cleared that one up.

  • 39 dcdick // Aug 28, 2014 at 9:25 AM

    Oh well.
Brilliant tactical display from Pardew at Gillingham, then he has the bare faced cheek to declare himself satisfied with the way we played & the result ????

    It still isn’t to late

    Pardew Out!!!

Now speaking civilly can we just agree to skirt around each other’s comments. You’re obviously trying to be provocative at every opportunity and frankly I don’t wish to engage.
