Newcastle In New Bid For England International Defender

4:12 pm, Thursday, August 28th, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 21 Comments

We should expect things to hot up in the last four days of this summer’s transfer window, and it seems Newcastle are not letting the grass grow under their feet – or should we say Lee Charnley is not letting the grass grow under his feet – with news this morning that Newcastle have enquired again about Loic Remy.

Micah richards

Micah Richards – could be good signing for Newcastle

And there was news coming out of Italy (Tutto Mercato) yesterday that Newcastle have put in a formal bid for Manchester City’s Micah Richards, who apparently would be keen to come to Tyneside.

And with the news that Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa would be willing to move to Marseilles, Newcastle could try to make that deal a permanent one, and use the money to buy Richards, with the fee for Richards thought to be around £4.4M.

Micah is still a decent player and there are a lot of good players that cannot get playing time at City these days, and his vast experience in England could come in very useful at Newcastle, and the fee seems low if anything.

There was news a couple of weeks ago that Newcastle may have even signed the 13 times capped England International, who has played 245 times for City with 9 goals.

If Newcastle are successful in getting the 26 year-old on Tyneside it would be a good signing and he would be the fourth Englishman signed by Newcastle this summer.

And if we can get Loic Remy and Micah Richards through the door by next Tuesday, this will have been the best transfer window at Newcastle for many years.

Here’s hoping.

I would much rather they went for Toby A from Athletico, but Richards would be better than nobody. Especially if MYM rumours are true.

Seems Ferreyra would be more of the natural lead striker:

he will be an improvement over our current set up and one for the future with plenty yet to improve on to get even better but he’s not the all singing and dancing cb yet.

Richards would certainly strengthen the team, potentially get more game time just as long as he stays fit and fits the profile of player that AP desires…..

I hadn’t realised that Richards is only 26 – good news. I’d have concerns over his fitness record, but we’ve got some good people in our backroom on that front now so perhaps we can do something about that. He’d certainly tick a lot of boxes: English, PL-proven, young enough and solid as a very solid thing after a long period of solidification. 🙂

Shame it’s an Italian source – makes it highly likely to be utter bollocks.

Certainly looks the lad can strike the ball properly
The only stand out thing about these videos of players like Ferrerya and Rivière is how much time and space they have in the box
Don’t get that in the prem like

    @2 70two

he’s def more of a main striker type and strong enough to cope as a lone striker if pards sticks to this siem as no10 role so lets hope hes given a chance and he works out for us !

he scored 2 goals in the reserves last game for us so he’s had a decent start.

I agree Whumpie, he’d be a massive improvement over say saylor for starters lol

I think the Italian sauce have picked up on something from weeks ago and decided to regurgitate it and tbh why wouldn’t SSN be reporting it if true, they usually get sniffs of anything British based

Strange transfer.Something like unsure experiment. But anyway we lack right backs if right back is position planned by Pardew for this player.Maybe Big Sam will play him as a powerful striker.

Agree mate. Don’t know why Pardew doesn’t play him.

Typical Pardew replace a centre back with what will be a part time R/B (on account of his injury history)
play 1 game miss 4-5, great just the type of player we need. Virgil Van Dijk is far better option, a natural C/B who can also play R/B if needed. Watched him during the Celtic Game Tuesday, he also looks dangerous in the opposition box, unfortunate not to score.

Southampton linked to Aldeweireld and they’re at a similar level to us, so maybe he’s not constrained to champ league clubs and we can start to dream…

He would be our best cb by a long way if we signed him, people who see him as a right back only are deluded.

    Pardew Out !!!

This Ferreyra kid remind me of our great striker Alan Shearer.

Totally agree with you! Think we could play Riviere on the right wing if we are to stick with the 4-2-3-1 and not accommodate them both playing up top together (which may be a deadly combination)

The problem is …..ARE WE ABLE TO PAY HIM?

    That’s the question.
