We thought that Jack Colback must be fit for tomorrow’s game against Crystal Palace at St. James’ Park, after England had inquired about his fitness yesterday, and he was subsequently included in the England squad for the very first time.
Siem de Jong – not 100% match fit
That’s good news for Newcastle, because Jack is one of our very best players this season.
And 18 year-old Rolando Aarons picked up a knock in Tuesday night’s game, and he is fit enough to play tomorrow too.
When asked about Jack Colback today the Newcastle manager said he is fine, but then Alan went into some detail about Siem de Jong:
“He has got that imagination and he has got that quality in that final third to make a big difference for us.”
“I don’t think he is 100% by any stretch of the imagination and whether he plays or not, or starts, on Saturday we will have to wait and see – but he’ll play a part for sure.”
That’s a strange response from the manager, and we can understand the Dutch International may not be completely 100% match fit, but giving him games will soon clear that up.
Siem de Jong has the ability to score goals from anywhere, including from free-kicks, so we hope to see Siem start the game tomorrow, and of course it looks like Jack Colback – our new England man – will also start against Palace.
Not sure about Cheick Tiote’s fitness, but we’d be surprised if he’s in the squad for the game tomorrow.
Ryan Taylor is on track to start training in a couple of weeks time, after recovering from his second serious ACL knee injury, but Davide Santon is going to be out longer than we thought with that knee injury, and it may be another two months before he will return to training.

Fair enough. I’d like to see Chucky given a chance. I still don’t understand the thought process of bringing Goofy on on Tuesday night rather than Chucky.
I think he will stick with the 4231 formation though. It looks like that is how he will look to play when all are fit, so I can’t see him discarding it just yet.

Comment #9he’s not a bad manager really.
i hate the way he plays but he has improved his attacking play…still its not good enough for me and i’d like to see more attacking instead of just counter attack but i guess i’m not pards.
most always said he’s an avg manager and i still think that ! he’s been made the fool in the past over no tranfers for 2 seasons and i dont blame pards for that i blame ashley there and he did do well leading us to 5th but still it could be argued that results took the limelight ahead of performances in that season as a lot of that football wasnt pretty either and prob worse than we are playing atm with more luck.
atm we have a great team apart from defence wise which imo is avg at cb a different manager imo could improve things if he was more attack minded !
but pards is still the manager and i’ll support him for as long as he’s nufc manager my team comes first before any one player or manager.

Comment #10Didier Deschamps has urged Loic Remy to quit Queens Park Rangers for the sake of his international career.
Now that sound easier said than done, he needs someone to bid the £8.5million it would take to activate his buy-out clause.
The France manager wants all of his players to be at “big European clubs” and has urged Remy the 27-year-old to think about his career.
“?With regards to Remy, his situation isn’t completely sorted out yet. The deadline for the transfer window is Monday at midnight,” said Les Bleus boss.

Agree, I think he will keep going with the 4231 formation as long as possible and the same players, in order to bed the new players in. As it is Palace he should start with both SDJ and Cabella; and it would probably be a mistake not to allow Riviere to continue in the hope he gets a goal.
Personally I would start with Sissoko and Goufran on the bench as very strong replacements, also giving Ferryera a chance up front with Riviere out left.

Personally I don’t see Rivi as getting the goals we need in that formation. I’d prefer to see him moved out left, Cabella right and SDJ in the middle of the three, with Chucky spearheading it.
Admittedly, I have seen very little of Chucky, but we need a goalscorer, and Rivi isn’t that.
Drop Sissoko, and play Colback and Anita in the centre until Tiote is back and then drop Anita.

Comment #15I would be inclined to drop goofy and put riviere on the left and chucky as the striker just to take the pressure of riviere
warnocks not a tactical genius and I likely to park the bus some what although I think we will line up 4231 again I would rather as were at home 433

Comment #16Lads you’s are forgetting that Riviere on the LW will mean no defensive cover for our full back. Riviere wont babysit….We needed an injury time winner last season to beat these, those who think palace will sit back are mistaken. Why sit back against a team that hasnt scored a goal this season? Palace will look to get a goal early. I hope I’m wrong but I can’t see any light in the way we’ve played. As an attacking force we very rarely get more than 1 player in the box and the attacking movement is pretty pants.

Comment #17Alan Pardew on Signing a striker and Cisse:
“I think that with the group that we have, we have good players and I think as I said before, Papiss [Cisse] will be back, I think for the Southampton game, certainly training by then.
“I think he will be like a new signing for us, with these players around him.
“So we are still carrying three strikers who I think are good enough to score goals in the Premiership. So therefore in the group I’m quite comfortable.
“The limitations Papiss [Cisse] had last year were because of the creative powers we had in the team.
“I think we have a fairer group, a team that will play to the strengths of others and I think that is important.”
Don’t expect a new striker in this window lads!

Ethio
Just for you because I know how much you hate non football topics!
I went on the Victoria Tunnel your last night which runs under this great city. The tunnel was opened around 1831 and team from Claremont road to the quayside and was used to transport coal from the colaries around Elswick and north of the city centre one of which was where there currently building opposite SJP.
The tunnel was only used for around 20 before the colaries went bankrupt it was closed up and wax lost to the city until 1936 when the council who’d heard the rumours of the tunnel who new they needed to find it to be a air raid shelter. It took engineers 2 weeks to locate the tunnel and when they did the council through a party in the bigg market.
It was converted to a air raid shelter and came into use in around 1939 at a cost of £37,000 running over the original cost which was supposed to be £9,000. It was capabil of holding 9000 people during the air raids.
During the air raids the people of Byker and surrounding areas would hide in it 8hrs at a time, this was due to the Getmans would fly over from Holland follow the Tyne go straight on to Belfast turn left to Manchester or right to Glasgow but on way back any bombs they had left where dropped on Newcastle. So once the Germans had been spotted on route people had to stay in tunnel until they came back and left.
Hope you enjoyed a bit of none NUFC history Ethio as I did, I’ll keep a few facts and interesting points for your entertainment at a later date 🙂
Sorry lads, Ethio says no NUFC talk but it’s more of the city’s proud history so I hope you don’t mind :)m

I know this is non-newcastle related but i am RAISING FUNDS for the MNDA as I am doing the Great North Run in just over a week. I have been struggling to raise funds and would MASSIVELY appreciate anyone donating to help me reach my target of £200.
The ALS ICE WATER BUCKET challenge has been in the spotlight lately, but MNDA is the same thing but just in our country.
I have been greatly affected by it as my Auntie has been diagnosed with the disease and I want to do what I can to help raise funds for the charity.
PLEASE donate if you can.
Here is a link to my Just Giving page, please donate anything you can it would be greatly appreciated, its for a great cause. https://www.justgiving.com/Kieron-Hubbuck/

Remy wants to stay in London and looks like irrespective of which club.
Newcastle and the North East clearly don’t have the attractions compared with the 5th largest French city (by the number of French residents).
