Premier League Clubs Have This Huge Advanatge

Alan Pardew has talked today about the obvious – that Premier League clubs with the huge money they get every April from the Premier League – because of that huge new TV deal, and should be fairly safe and be able to stay in England’s top league.

Alan Pardew – Premier League teams have huge advantage

But three clubs still get relegated every season, and two years ago we were close to taking the drop – so it’s not that certain.

This is what Alan had to say today:

“I think Palace are looking to grow as a Premier League club and one year in is not growing, you need to get that second and third year.”

“As Hull have done this year – you look at their squad and they have gone again, they look an established Premier League side.” “With the current TV deal I think it is going to be difficult for them Premiership teams to be dislodged.

“So all of us who are in the Premiership at the moment have a huge advantage and we are trying to capitalize on that.”

But Alan’s right in that a club of Newcastle’s stature should be able to stay in the Premier League long term, and the clubs that fight against relegation each season are usually the three clubs promoted from the Championship.

Newcastle received a whopping £79.5M from the new three-year TV deal last May for finishing in 10th place, and the year before that, on the previous  TV deal,  we finished 16th and got around £45M.

So you can see the huge increase in money Premier League clubs now get, and just think if we can finish in the top six this season.

One way to think of it is that Premier League clubs now receive anything from £60M through £100M every May, largely dependent on where the clubs finish in the Premier League table, whereas in the old deal it was anywhere from £40M to £60M.

So that’s a huge increase – an average of around 60% increase in money. 😮

That’s only one reason we still have plenty of money available through Tuesday – if we can get the right players through the door.

So it’s true Premier League clubs do have a huge advantage – it’s called money.

    Croftus,
    No De Jong?

    Ethio,
I like Winston Reid, liked him first time I saw him play at the 2010 World Cup. I think he has already been noticed by a number of clubs to be fair, and think if he left West Ham it would be to a team playing in Europe.

good news if true about dijk and richards as cb is def our worst possition !

something tells me richards will be main target though for his cover at rb ! i dont have a prob with that too much in him being better than what we have at cb and being english and even hopefullt if played consistantly at cb maybe even be thought about for england in the future but i wouldnt like him to be shifted around too much by pards filling in possitions tactics.

Pardew is always going on about we can’t compete with the top clubs, which is true to a certain extent but the main difference between us and other clubs is they’re willing to spend the sky tv money to improve we have to sell our best players to buy, while Mash plays the wages then pockets the rest.

    i agree

the sky tv money and the fair play have leveled the playing field a bit now and theres only the likes of the big big spenders who are out of our league which ahould put us challenging for 5th downwards imo if ash spends some bloody money and doesnt scrape the barrel when real talent comes up !

our scouting system is great and i’m all for getting 9 players in for 2 out and not losing quality but the 80mil nufs/ashley has from last season burning a whole in his pocket needs to be spent if the right player comes up (i.e. a cb)

if we finish high up table this season it can be a great starting point to attract a tiny bit more quality of a cb for when colo/williamson retires or moves aslong as they are willing to pay the price.

Where the hell is Ferrerya. Im pissed off. He best get played against Palace. I swear to god Pardew is as dumb as a doormat. Cant you see Rivi is plain and simply not good enough to play alone up front. Hes just a upgrade on Goofy who just runs at players and gets the odd goal. We need to play 4-1-2-1-2.

    Janmaat, Willo, Colo, Haidara
    Tiote or Colback
    Sissoko Cabella
    Siem
    Rivi, Chucky
