Report Newcastle Have Won Race To Sign Belgian Defender

We don’t know how much the report can be relied on,  but Goal is reporting this morning they understand Newcastle have won the race to sign Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid – a player we scouted while he was at Ajax until last August.

Toby Alderweireld

Toby Alderweireld – have Newcastle won race to sign this player?

Other clubs reported to be interested in the Belgian International include Arsenal, Sunderland, Monaco and Southampton, so if the GOAL report is accurate (who knows?) then Newcastle will have done very well.

Alan Oliver in the Sunday People reported today that Newcastle were in for the 25 year-old, who had only limited playing time in Madrid last season, and is looking for a move away from Atletico, and would welcome a move to the Premier League.

The GOAL report suggests the Belgian  is keen to join his two former team-mates Vurnon Anita and Siem de Jong, who are now both at Newcastle, and we have to think he got glowing reports from them about Newcastle United.

Sunderland are also said to be in the race for Toby, but there are reports today the Black Cats could be getting 26 year-old Micah Richards on loan from Manchester  City for the season.

Newcastle fans are getting over a less than good performance yesterday,  when we somehow managed to concede three goals against Crystal Palace, and our defense looked as leaky as a bucket with (big) holes in it.

And we weren’t too much better up front, as our three new forwards – Siem de Jong, Remy Cabella and Manu Riviere – all struggled, although there are reports that Siem was not fully fit.

The Dutchman certainly played like he was not fully fit, and the only shining light was the superb performance of substitute Rolando Aarons who was brought on after 67 minutes and the 18 year-old scored one and made one to put Newcastle 3-2 up with just two minutes to play in normal time.

But we couldn’t hold onto the lead in the seven minutes of stoppage time the referee added on – mainly because Palace had been wasting time when they had been ahead for most of the game.

But now we are hoping that Newcastle can bring in a striker and a center-half before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.

We need both those positions strengthened.

Believe it when he’s holding up the shirt, but in all honesty it’s gonna take more than one player to alter the fortunes of our squad

When we played the ball into De Jongs feet we looked like a team that can pass the ball, all his touches were first time lay offs back in to feet, if our other forward players cotton on to the fact he`s gonna give them it back to feet we`re on to something I reckon.

All three goals yesterday came from both Willo and Colo standing off and failing to react. It’s the same old story with our two centre halfs, Colo is no captain as he has no voice and never marshalls the defensive line

Kets will be pleased – and me too. Why would we not strengthen the weakest position in the side ? Conceded 5 already. 48 hours to go. I’ll take Virgil too.

We could have the Chelsea team but with Pardew in charge with his fantastic defensive and offensive coaching we would struggle to reach mid table. We look awful going forward I mean clueless it’s so painful to watch let alone embarrassing please please fat boy bring in a continental coach to bring back the football to tyneside.

This is just a rumour, but gffn are reporting M’biwa on hold until we get a replacement. Either way something needs done .

M’biwa is the wrong one to ship out IMO but probably the only one anyone else would take.

I’d love Toby to come in but I won’t hold my breath.

Diggedy, it’s still football, and I love to watch it being played well with the right approach.

Players like Romario, Ronaldo, Bergkamp have all played in that league.

Everything you need to know about Pardew comes from the fact that Mapou is the one getting shipped out while Saylor, Willo and Colo remain at the club.

People need to wake up and realise that it’s not a case of needing more or better players as much as its a case of needing better coaches and a better manager to get the best out of the players we have

Not sure how credible this Goal report is. They also reported on Friday that we were still hopeful of signing Lacazette.
I think it is regurgitated gossip.

Its not about shipping people out, it’s about buyers coming to select our wares. At the moment there isn’t a line of clubs fighting each other outside SJP to see Charnley about our summer sales.

It’s about NUFc officials hawking Mapou around Franace in the hopes of getting shot of the lad while keeping the likes of Saylor at the club

There seems to be a bit of a trend by a couple of posters just to cut and paste comments from other posters or articles and leave it at that, with no personal comment at all attached, so as a reader we do not know what the posters point is.
I would say what is the point of that – the blog surely should be a exchange of view/ideas.
Whilst I’m having a moan another point is people just putting up an external link without any explanation or suggestion as to what is is. I skip past these pretty quick.

Hoping to see this guy signed. I’d take the player from Celtic too. Hopefully Ashley realizes we need to improve our D or we will be in a relegation battle for sure. I’m not quite as concerned about our scoring as I believe we’ll settle down and eventually get enough goal scoring, well I’m not sure I totally believe that, but this defense will take us down….

I used to watch PSV when I lived there and NAC when I was there too, cant knock the technical aspect of cloggy football but they are very soft. IMO.
