There are lots of reports out there that Newcastle defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is set to take a medical at Italian club Roma, before the transfer window closes tonight, and go out on a season long loan but surely we will only let Mapou go if we have another centre-back coming in – otherwise we will be left with only three experienced center-backs for this season.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – in action for Newcastle last season
Yanga-Mbiwa joined Newcastle from Montpellier last January for a fee of around £6.7M, and he just hasn’t looked the same player he was at Montpellier – when he led the club to their first ever French League Championship in 2012.
The French defender hasn’t even been on the bench for Newcastle this season, which is a good hint that there’s no future for him on Tyneside.
Moving to Roma this season could be an excellent move for the 25 year-old, and it seems a deal has been finally reached between Newcastle and Roma, with Newcastle wanting the Italian club to pay 80% of his wages for the season.
Roma can even offer him Champions League football, after they finished second to Juventus last season, and under former Lille manager Rudi Garcia they could be pushing Juventus hard this season.
And of course Rudi will know all about Yanga-Mbiwa, after he managed Lille from 2008-2013, before joining Roma last summer, so he knows what he’s getting in Mapou – who can play anywhere along the back four.
It’s all well and good allowing Mapou to leave on loan, but does that mean we have somebody lined up to replace him – like Virgil van Dijk of Celtic or Toby Alderweireld of Atletico Madrid.
We hope so.

It really is insane! I get that Colo and MYM together is a bit light, but he should have used MYM last season with Williamson. Colo is NOT the future.
I haven’t seen this much abuse of a squad since Gullit was here. That’s the level Pardew is at.

Comment #6Don’t think MBiwa is that much of a loss, he just hasn’t taken to the prem league – some of the defending has been half hearted at best. I presume we have to get rid of one and nobody has bid for Stevie Taylor who I would prefer to go (shame although not unexpected).

Comment #7If MYM leaves and we don’t pay the going rate for who ever we have lined up then we have now officially and deliberately weakened one of the worst PL defences, mixed with the fact that it is a huge gamble to start the season with three new strikers without a minute of PL experience and you have to ask yourself, does the fat fcuker want us relegated.

Comment #8There was really no need for us to be in this panic situation on the last day of the transfer window.
Ashley was well aware when the window opened that we needed a proven goal scorer and a centre back, yet he was not prepared to go the extra million or even few millions of pounds to secure what the club needed. Look at the total contrast with Kenwright at Everton and Okubu !
If we don’t land either by 11.00p.m. this evening, we’ll have a real struggle to make 10th. spot by the end of the season, and if we do make 10th. or better then I’ll propose that AP is given the ‘Freedom of Newcastle’. What do you think ?

Comment #10Boooooooo, no ones coming in, don’t even think about getting your hopes up, the line we need to get them across is deep inside Mike Ashley’s wallet which is tighter than a nun on prom night

Comment #11So here we are 7hrs from transfer deadline and now we find we,ve only got 3 CBs.
If we dont get a replacement in ,we are relegation fodder.
Look at our options now ffs.
Not good is it folks.
