Pardew Wants Ben Arfa Out – You’re Surplus To Requirements

6:12 pm, Monday, September 1st, 2014 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 314 Comments

There is news doing the rounds that Alan Pardew has told Hatem Ben Arfa that he is surplus to requirements at Newcastle United, and he wants him out of the club by 11:00 pm tonight.

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Manchester City v Newcastle United - Etihad Stadium

Alan Pardew and Ben Arfa in happier times
It’s not like this any more between them

But something tells us that  the Frenchman will still try to resist being moved out by the manager and Newcastle.

We have said for some time now that he will still want to leave Newcastle next summer as a free agent – when he could get a decent deal for himself with no transfer being needed – and he could still do that if he accepts a loan deal for the season.

Lee Ryder of the Chronicle has tweeted this on his Twitter account:

#nufc are spending the last few hours of the window trying to sell Hatem Ben Arfa.

And talkSport radio is reporting that Pardew has told the Frenchman he is surplus to requirements on Tyneside, and we wrote a piece this morning stating this altercation between the manager and Ben Arfa cannot be allowed to continue at the club.

As sometimes happens when this kind of thing starts to get out of hand, it seems to have become personal – but in our piece this morning we were hoping that Pardew and Ben Arfa could resolve their differences – for the good of the club.

It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen.

These kinds of things are always sad – and nobody gets to be the winner, and quite honestly it reminds us of the fights we used to have as kids in the playground (Wharrier Street Primary School in my case) – it’s that bad and that unprofessional on both sides when it’s between grown men.

And there’s always a way to get to a solution to these problems – if only both men would get together, talk and try (and want to) fix the problem.

Life’s too short for this kind of thing.

Comments welcome.

Lee Ryder knows nowt, msn. Just trying to drum up a story as per usual. Arfa would have been told this ages ago.

I think Ben Arfa will sit on his contract and go as a free agent unless a biggish club comes in for him…

Hba is such a swine, tbf. He threatened to help ein s cup or at least string more than 3 wins in the bounce if regularly included in the team. He also made Obertan look unskilled. He also cruelly exposed the defensive units glaring weaknesses in a cruel manner. What a swine, the sooner he is shipped off to a team he’d rather not go to the better. Serves him right if he’s a success and wins things there, the arrogant monster!

  • 7 Tsunki // Sep 1, 2014 at 6:20 PM

If nothing else, hba’s tenure at nufc will be counted a roaring success if he is responsible for Pardew getting his laundry bag shoved into a taxi. He’d be a legend.

Neither Quantitatively, nor qualitatively has our defense improved. Its got worse…mbiwa out, collo older , santon injured…
Infact its worse than 2 years ago when we desperately got mbiwa in Jan.

  • 13 AwToonnufc // Sep 1, 2014 at 6:24 PM

Hopefully Ben arfa will still be at the club tomorrow, that way if pardew doesn’t get a win soon he should get sacked and a new manager will be able to work ben arfa back in to our team. Pardew seems incapable of taking any blame for last seasons shocking form and thats why Ben Arfa will not play for us again under Pardew the f****g snake.

Wouldn’t play poker with HBA because he would at least take risks and could clear me out. Wouldn’t play poker with Pardew because he would shoot you from under the table. Wouldn’t play poker with Ashley because then I would be Pardew.
HBA needs to stay and out stare the death stare. Let’s see who blinks first.

God its so infuriating being a Toon fan.

  • 30 kevymartins // Sep 1, 2014 at 6:36 PM

@Markaccus I would never do anything rational like that myself. But you have to wonder how it has not happened yet. He is making millions of fans frustrated and depressed all by not managing a football team properly. As we know Nufc fans are very very very passionate.

Look at neil Lennon he was receiving bullets through the post while a Celtic.

I fear no club with Dodgy Plonk in the lineup mates! 😯

  • 35 optimistic prime // Sep 1, 2014 at 6:38 PM

    Tequila

I’ll happily talk about something else, but today I think Pardew was always going to be the talking point due to his interviews and claims of a stronger team.

IMO it’s human nature to go on and on until something changes.
Scientists have a theory that our dreams are based upon what’s on our mind and there a way to stop you going mad by playing over different scenarios whilst sleeping. I don’t know if that’s true but sounds likely.

My view on Ashley at NUFC which is my opinion based on what I’ve read and things done at the club.

I think Ashley heard on the grapevine the Mansoods where planning on buying NUFC so he jumped in first expecting a decent profit for not much work. Then due to not doing due dulling emcee he wasn’t going to get the money he wanted so decided to have a go at running a club.
Then came KK which went tits up and NUFC and SD ended up front page news from Byker to Bangok which was when he realised how much publicity SD was getting just because of his association.

Then Mansoods came in and he had no intention of selling just more smoke and mirrors for free publicity for SD.

We’ve had SJP name change and JFK to name a couple and even thease IMO where perfectly thought out moves not mistakes to get SD on the news, we all no he doesn’t give a stuff about the fans.

There’s way more stuff happened and I beleive everything was planned to work like this except maybe relegation but even that may have been a gamble he wanted. How much did he lend the club when it went down? But more interesting why? We got a parachute payment offloaded several high payed players and their wages. Why did we need money?

And on to where we are, I think Ashley is ready to axe Pardew just to protect us from going down, if he’s confident Pardew can keep us up he’ll stay but I think his numbers up.

Ashley wants us in 10th because any higher and he has to invest, no advertising in Europa or CL so no way he’s investing with no bennift for SD

That’s my take on the piece of 5hit and all ideas how to get rid will be carefully scrutinised and passed on to the right people 😉

  • 36 GeordieTwo // Sep 1, 2014 at 6:39 PM

People will try to put the blame on Ashley but you can’t change the fact that Pardew has come out and said he expects a signing or 2 before the window shuts.

So if no one comes in he is going to look like a right tool.

  • 40 Markaccus // Sep 1, 2014 at 6:40 PM

    Kevy

yeah i know you wouldnt. It takes a special kind of tw@ for that kind of thing. Lennons death threats were based on religious grounds, him being NI and Celtic being a Catholic club. Those people are a fcuking disgrace!

  • 41 firebug666 // Sep 1, 2014 at 6:41 PM

I was hoping that we would have strengthened at the back this summer, instead we have weekend it, The defence was already p1ss poor, and now even weaker. We have the potential going forward but the inability to score enough goals on a regular basis. so fa this season we have played 3 games conceded 5 goals and scored 3 so we are -2GD.

With what we have going into this season, and looking at the business that other clubs have done we have been left behind, we are weaker than every other team man for man, have the worst defence in the league.

I believe this season will be a disaster for the club and the fans. If we manage to stay up it will have to be down to good luck because we have nothing else going for us.

  • 42 lochinvar // Sep 1, 2014 at 6:41 PM

Why doesn’t HBA go for a long walk on a beach until one minute past eleven. If he’s ” out of office” no contracts can be signed.
And by the way just exactly where is Pardew tonight ? Surely he is busy signing that elusive CF and CD – or is he sitting on his hands locked in Ashley’s cupboard.
This is NUFC – he still doesn’t get it

Have an early night, Hatem. Or go to the cinema where you’re not allowed your phone on.

“He doesn’t have to leave,” said his agent Michel Ouazine. “He can go on a free after his contract is over – six months, or a year, this is not a problem.

“Who knows how long Pardew will be at Newcastle. In two months, he may not be here. Hatem love this club, he is idolised by fans. Hatem remain professional and is working hard.”

They even know how much pressure Pinocchio is under after witnessing that cauldron of abuse at the Cardiff match. More of the same please.

    Stick in there, Hatem.

Will be interesting if Hatem does stay, as it will also show up Carroll when he says they were trying to get rid of him. I’m sure they were, but he could simply have said “no” like Hatem is doing.

This is a disgrace. Either they tell us the reasons for this or Pardew plays him.

This is seriously messed up- a player with that much talent who actually WANTS to stay and play for Newcastle and for some reason (that seems to be pure ego) Pardew wants him out.

He didn’t even like the scarf I just knitted him. All we need in defense is Colo and Willo. That’s obvious. Our strikers will come good some time in this decade. Just let me do my work and we’ll avoid relegation again. I’m sure of it!!!!”

  • 69 Blubber tits // Sep 1, 2014 at 7:00 PM

This club is at at a new low.

The only positive I can take is that perhaps if Mash pockets the £50m+ profit and services the ‘debt’, he may just be one step closer to leaving, hardly any comfort when you take that line of thinking to it’s logical conclusion, that once the debt is fully repaid and we’re still turning a profit, only reinvesting in the squad what we get from player sales, what reason would he have to leave whilst the club is still a nice little earner for Mash.

No light at the end of the tunnel and Pardew is one of the most repulsive individuals ever to be associated with this club.

CL? Pardew really probably was having a laugh behind the scenes, when he said that.

Thick as thieves the lot of them.

That’s probably the very reason HBA is getting ousted, because he rescued situations singlehandedly and in Pardew’s deranged mind, he’ll resent the praise and adoration HBA got, so he’s trying to prove a point that he is the main man that can get us results by crafting a team and punishing the wildcard fans favourite, only problem being, the evidence is emphatic that he can’t construct and deploy anything resembling an entertaining attacking system.

Being fair to Alan like he did say last year the new players (Yanga, Hairdryer etc) werent as good as the ones he had and now he’s been proved right. I wont be surprised if he wants rid of Arfur at all costs cos if things dont pick up after 10 games Arfur will be what all those that hate Alan unite around. He’s just being smart.
No club can have one player bringing everyone down. Its like the winter of discontent stopping the club moving onwards and upwards.

Best attack under Pardew: 2012 6-game winning run. 4-3-3 free flowing attacking. Status: Deactivated

Best defence under Pardew: Start of 2011/12 season. 4-4-2. Status: Inapplicable. Works with 2 defensive fullbacks, a creative midfielder and clinical finishers, absence of all 4 currently.

If HBA doesn’t go today, he will go in January or next summer. His agent pulled out of contract negotiations and then refused to go back to the table last November.

He isn’t wanting to stay cause he loves the club, he just knows fine well he will get a better deal if he is on a free.

If Pardew has told him he is surplus he would be foolish to stay. Even if he went to Brum on loan at least he would be playing regular football. He may not even be named in our 25 which means regardless of Pardew being here he couldn’t play until the earliest January.

What a load of old w**k.

Benny’s taken the piss continuously – out of the club, the manager and his team-mates, for ages. He arses about when he should be listening to team orders, does minimal conditioning, fecks off to France whenever he can and only plays to his ability when he’s in the mood. The rest of the time he just lets the opposition swan past him and shrugs when they score as if it had nothing to do with him.

Then, when it comes down to a clear choice to either rescue his career by moving elsewhere or sit tight, do feck all and wait for the money, he does the latter.

    Lazy, garlic-laden git. Get rid.

  • 145 colwell // Sep 1, 2014 at 7:35 PM

Our Toon – on the bet thing…

Oh, no you don’t – you can’t turn this into a subjective judgement thing just when it suits. We debated which stats to use and you specified possession, shots and shots on target. I said they didn’t necessarily reflect dominance, but that was what you wanted. In my book, whichever team gets the better stats in at least two of those, is the one that gets the nod for each match. Fair?

I agree that the Palace game was quite even – hence the result – but the stats say that we dominated the game. We did – in the same, marginal way that Citeh dominated us in their game.

So that’s 2-1 in my book – unless you’ve got an argument that suggests something else based on something more scientific than “I thought it looked like it” :)

  • 216 Slank // Sep 1, 2014 at 8:02 PM

What is the measure of success in the transfer window ?

Is it how many players are bought ?
Is it getting in players at the earliest opportunity ?
Is it doing deals at the ’11th’ hour ?
Is it removing as many players as possible ?
Is it how much money is spent ?
Is it how much money is received ?
Is it paying a sensible realistic prices for players ?
Is it paying over the odds for players ?
Is it getting every player identified over the line ?

I’m sure there is other criteria.

To me, getting in players at the earliest opportunity is the most important as it shows a club has done all its research and behind the scenes negotiations well in advance. Maybe others disagree.

  • 225 andrew84 // Sep 1, 2014 at 8:05 PM

    Mr Sensible,

The money Ashley has spent in this window is money that is not his. It’s part of the TV money and revenue from the sales of Cabaye and Debuchy.

You didn’t answer my question – do you not think we need a top class defender and striker?

  • 226 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 1, 2014 at 8:05 PM

    Mr Sensible,
Mike spent millions of pounds 7 years ago. He hasn’t spent any of his own money, according to the club, since we were promoted. They talked of the club being allowed to spend what it makes, yet it isn’t allowed to maximise income, and even when we turn a profit, it isn’t spent.

The squad is severely lacking in key areas, has been for a while. We have let go 8 players, plus Cabaye, and Mbiwa looking likely this window, and bought 9, with 2 going straight back on loan. We were told the squad didn’t have the depth last season, this season it is currently looking like it will have less. That is unless they pull a couple of rabbits out of the proverbial hat.

  • 228 colwell // Sep 1, 2014 at 8:06 PM

A successful window would be securing players in areas we most needed.

We have not done this regardless of 9 players coming in your only as strong as your weakest link and we are very weak at the back and up top. So NO it has not been a good window.

  • 234 Markaccus // Sep 1, 2014 at 8:08 PM

    Slank

“Signing the players in the priority positions”
    Is important to me.

In no single window under ashley have we actually signed the player/s we need. No matter how many we do or do not sign, we always end up short of at least one player in a key area. This window we are going to be short one CB, and some will say a CF, although we signed 3 of them (unproven they may be).

  • 235 Lilongwe Geordie // Sep 1, 2014 at 8:08 PM

    Slank,
Success in the transfer window? Identifying areas of your squad that need strengthening and signing the players to address that issue as early as possible in order to integrate. We have done neither this window.

We dont buy/sell players to benefit the team its al about the profit from transfers, who cares we need 2 CBs now.Who cares we probably wont ever replace AC.

Its why we seem to buy players we dont need and ignor the gapeing holes in the squad.

  • 239 Whumpie // Sep 1, 2014 at 8:10 PM

Oh, and on Barfa – he can sod off.

How come when other players piss us around, play poorly and annoy their team mates they get ostracised and ripped to shreds by the support… yet with Barfa he’s the hard-done-by martyr?

Could it be because the Pardew-haters need a figurehead for their little protest?

It’s similar to the Che Guevara thing – and I hope the ‘Hope’ banner people are reading this:

Guevara was a violent, devious, nasty bit of work with a penchant for extreme violence – but because he made waves at a time when the people needed a figure to represent struggle against a regime, all that was overlooked and he became an icon.

Or at least a t-shirt, which isn’t bad.

Some reality about Benny is required. If any of us behaved at work like he has, we’d be gone – contract or no contract. Just because he scores a few pretty goals should make no difference. He’s taking a place that another player – one who works hard and takes his position seriously – should have. His wages would pay for another two Aarons – a kid who’s put in far more effort and played much better, more consistently than Haten Ben “Golden Monobrow” Arfa ever did.

    Here endeth the rant.

Pardew would be insane to let him back into the team. The players hate him and have seen how he’s behaved. What message would it send to give him yet another chance?

He can shrug off to the fizzy league, because no premiership manager wants to know.

Ashley’s policy of getting in players during the transfer window is like the old biddy at the local car boot sale.
She goes there to buy a carving knife to carve the Sunday joint, and there are quite a few for sale but, after a lot of haggling, she decides they are all too expensive, and she ends up buying a penknife, three spoons and a fork, all of which she gets at knock down prices.
She gets home, tips her purchases onto the table, and says ‘the joint’s ready Alan. See what you can do with these’.
I hope all those who will hold Pardew responsible for not getting in a CB or a proven goal scorer in this window will bear in mind that he’s not the guy who signs the cheques. (but I don’t expect you will).

How many more times do you think Sunderland could beat us 3-0 before some goons on here appreciate what total and utter shite they have started to accept.

    Bellends the lot of them.

    sensible

    tequila really?

There aren’t haters just people who can see someone out of his depth and damaging the club. Ashley’s crime is appointing him.

Cisse, MYM and HBA were probably worth nearly 30M 2 years ago.

Sky Sports at SJP ? Doubt it – bet we’ve only got Freeview as it’s cheaper.
Also there’s a notice on the door saying ” Closing down sale”

Pardunce’s Champions League aspirations ‘ey? Delusional. Got to get 3 points first, Alan.

If he even gets to 10 games, he’ll shift the goal posts of lowered ambition again. Pardew’s lenient lemmings will simple gobble up his spin like hungry hippos.

Meanwhile, Ashley once again shows his lack of ambition.

One thing’s for sure, there will be even more attending another march.

    Rotonda@289

Mbiwa was a liability whenever he played and it made perfect sense to play Willo and Collo when they were available. I’m not saying Ashley’s decision to send him out for a year is a particularly smart decision for the team ( although financially it makes good sense) as we could be vulnerable when injuries and suspensions kick in. Hopefully one of the young CBs will step up to the plate, and Mbiwa will return will a year’s more experience under his belt.

We are cheated Alan is NOT an UPGRADE.

Chris Hughton wanted a Full Contract and Ashley quickly got him off the hook.

Getting Pardew in acting like an UPGRADE. It is a DOWNGRADE Manager. Pardew have crack all records of being the WORST it can be for our past results. IT is PROVEN.

    Pardew HAVE TO GO.

When you said “the players hate him” ?
Go watch the VIDEOs on how players DANCE together when he score a GOAL.

Do you even watch him against Arsenal how is influence games when he is on.
