As far as we can tell, when you look at the January transfer window and this summer’s transfer window, which ended last night, we estimate that Newcastle’s net spend was just less than £2M in the two transfer markets.
Here are the incoming and outgoing transfers Newcastle completed this summer.
IN:
[table “27” not found /]OUT:
[table “28” not found /]With those estimates for the incoming transfers this summer we paid out about £35M and that includes the £1.6M loan fee for Facundo Ferreyra.
Another outlay for Newcastle was the loan fee we paid out in January to Borussia Monchengladbach for Luuk de Jong – so let’s assume that was about £1M.
So with loan fees and transfer costs for incoming players this year we paid out about £36M – £33.4M in transfer fees and £2.6M in loan costs for de Jong and Ferreyra.
For outgoing transfers this summer we received about £12.4M for Debuchy and Tavernier, and of course we got around £20M for Yohan Cabaye in January – that’s 32.4M we received in transfer fees this year.
We don’t know what the loan fee was for Ben Arfa’s move to Hull, but let’s say it was £1M – so we got around £1.76M in loan fees for loaning out Ben Arfa and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa yesterday.
And since there is an additional €500K based on appearances for Mapou at Roma, let’s just say we got £2M for the loans of Ben Arfa and Yanga-Mbiwa.
So that makes about £32.4 plus £2M – £34.4M we received for the outgoing transfers and loan deals this year.
So we paid out £36M and got back £34.4M.
And we didn’t assume any loan fee for loaning out Marveaux to Guingamp.
It’s almost a wash.
That’s assuming the estimates for the transfer fees are close and that our maths is OK.

He might not terrorise us but on his day he certainly would.
I by no means think he is a god as some do, but he is still a very clever player. I want to see how he does in another side.

On Lualua
“During this loan spell he scored in the 89th minute in a 1–1 draw for Portsmouth against parent club Newcastle.[20] The result lifted Portsmouth out of the bottom three of the Premiership. This also lead to a change in legislation for the FA introducing standard rules meaning a player on loan could not play against their parent club”

I wouldn’t have thought so. Certainly not until January anyway, by which point he will be hunting for his summer move anyway. If he was recalled before Jan we couldn’t put him in our squad of 25.

Comment #47A paragraph from a story related to lualua ”—Newcastle accepted. What did they have to lose? They gained some money for a player who wasn’t happy to sit on the bench. What’s more, if Lomana did well, he may return to Newcastle fresh and ready to go. There was one small catch, Newcastle forgot to insert a clause preventing Lomana from playing against them. A minor detail or so it seemed.———–If the laws have been changed, i apologise.

Tbh not really to interested what he does for Hull
Sad it didn’t work out for him but he’s basically left the club now
Yes we can talk about if Pardew gets sacked we could recall him but there overlooking the point Lilo made, all this started when he turned down a contract, that was at a time when he was featuring
What’s changed?

Comment #50Its beginning to hurt now. I have said here before that HBA is overrated and has had personality clashes etc throughout his career and that’s true, but seeing him playing for a club who will overtake us this year in the league is going to hurt. Hull have ambition, we don’t. Its very sad. To leave us exposed at striker and centre half is very dangerous and many of these players have shown the capacity to implode and go on long losing spells and that could easily happen again – and I don’t just include the foreigners in that. I asked for 10 games before the lunatic fringe jumped on Pardews head but I’ll be joining them ( although wont degenerate into the ridiculous nonsense we see here from many contributors ) if I don’t see progress in 4 games. I think that’s fair, even with many new players. So much depends on De Jong now. I reckon Aarons may be a bit of a tool in the making with his overreaction and “look at my name” carry on, but at least he has something. Lets hope De Jong gets fit soon but our defence as a unit is not likely to improve as far as I can see 🙁

Really? Not being funny, but what makes you believe that? He had an awful run last season, and was not sacked. He already has an excuse for bad results now (partially valid excuse too). We are short at the back. Part of that is his own fault, but Ashley didnt sign a replacement.
So, that being said, add in the huge contract, and personally i come to the conclusion that anything less than relegation will see him safe, and even IF we go down, ashley is still not guaranteed to sack him.
If pardew had a mourinho nickname, it would be “The Unsackable One”!

Comment #57Unlike some I’m sure, I’ve no problem with a small nett spend or breakeven. It’s good business.
However, where I have a concern is that we’ve known what we needed as priorities.
Similarly, we’ll surely have known who’s expendable and could be moved on.
However, what we didn’t appear to have done is prioritise our market activities and deal to ensure that all ins and outs were handled in a way that meant all targets incoming and outgoing were met.
Ae it was, we left the big earning outgoings until last – as we did our key priorities for a CB and striker of proven quality.
In my view, it’s been bad planning that’s at the bottom of our failure to get our key targets in.
Maybe Charnley had too much to do and didn’t have the authority to deal as he saw fit.
Similarly, Pardew’s been left to pick up the pieces and face a very disillusioned set of fans.
I wonder whether Ashley’s a believer in ‘after action reviews’? Let’s hope so and when one’s conducted, the learning points are noted and action taken to ensure the implementation of any changes to improve our transfer activity in the future.
Be prepared for a bumpy ride before and after January.

southampton swansea qpr hull etc have more ambition than us, whats the point, someone tell me buy all those players but dont buy the ones you need i still think we are weaker than last season . i hope im wrong but this could be along season…….why do we bother lol

Comment #59Everyone is missing the point here. This is not about letting HBA go. this is about gambling on the fitness and form of our defence without suitable back up (contingency).
lets just say Colo gets a red card (easily happen when he gets dicked for pace time and time again).
Willo / Janmaat gets an injury.
Krul gets injured.
Entertaining football? Goals? Points?
Relegation anyone?

second part of the season he had bad runs not the start of the season
this time last season we were 11th, we won, draw and lost
and I believe if Pardew looses 4 out of 5 games MA will panic and let him go, he can’t risk Newcastle being relegated again so a new manager will be a must.

Comment #61Lesh, what is the point of ‘good business’ when the money is piling up and not doing anything? It is in essence, dead money. Wasted, when it should be maximised by being invested in better players.
There is no point in a bank full of money if you need players on the pitch. Every team needs to keep building, so there’s no excuse not to be pushing forward.

Comment #63I think if the profits are going back in to infrastructure then fair enough regarding not wanting to spend beyond what we generate through sales if the quality isn’t there. The problem seems more in not being able to shift the likes of Mbiwa, Marv, Benny, Jonas, Obertan. Nobody wants to pay for them. If we’d sold them and then not bought, then that’s genuine cause for anger. What happened seems more disappointing than anything else, given time to digest it.
I suppose this is what they mean by “wiping its nose”, although these players and contracts are all the “committees”doing, if that’s what we have. So who else is ultimately responsible. I don’t think the transfer policy in practice is all it’s been cracked up to be.

Comment #66MA only priority is to protect his money and make a profit, if he sees Pardew as a threat to his goals Pardew will be sacked.
this is why I think the transfer money was kept aside in case this happens, and lets not forgot that MA is a business man and knows how to run a successful business

Comment #70unlike some fans i base the transfers on the whole window and not just one day ! and who cares about net spend its quality thats needed and imo we have recruited a lot more quality in than has gone out.
arfa was a great player individually in 1 in 3-4 games but he was def not a team player and it did effect the rest of the team in a bad way not a good way (just look at the players in the reserves when he scored his wonder goal or go back through some footage of when he played and look at our players reactions when he was playing)
cabella seems a lot more talented than arfa and consistant but wether he’s got the goals in him also we shall see (personally he’s a bit too light weight for my liking)
all in all with inc and outs a great window imo (could have been better but from us could have been a hell of a lot worse like previous windows) now to see if pards can keep them good players playing well and playing to there strength’s

i do not trust Ashley to do the right thing, whatever it may be, for nufc. He might be a good business man, but has shown time after time he can’t make a good call when it comes to the football. Even if he does sack Pardew, i am CONVINCED that he will not upgrade. It’ll be carver, or someone more negative than pardew.

it would be a disaster and there confidence/moral will drop, but once an improving manager comes through spirits will be lifted from the squad and fans.
Iv’e seen in it plenty of times when new managers come through a perfect example would be Pulis at Palace.
this I believe is what Newcastle need, they need a manager who could lift the mood and I think Frank De Boer would be perfect for us in every aspect

Do you honestly believe pardew had nothing to do with getting rid of both MYM and HBA mate? Get rid of players on loan is a clear indication of a manager not wanting players, Jonas probably earns more money than both yet he’s been shunted off to Argentina. Makes you wonder whether the fat controller is once again making it seem like pardew hands were tied and when things go wrong he’ll still have some fans that say what’s he supposed to do MYM went on the final day leaving the manager short again.
Seems to me that pardew has a get out of jail card for every season….They are all in cahoots though including Charnley.

How can you say we have recruited more quality than whats gone out?
Not one of these players are proven in this league, we are frighteningly short up front and at the back and now face the rest of the season with three very average center half’s, three unproven strikers and one who’s form in sunday league standard.
I do care what our net spend is simply because our squad is riddled with holes while Ashley has pocketed ten’s of millions at the expense of our club
