Some bad news coming through today that Siem de Jong has suffered a leg injury in training, and he is struggling to be fit for our next game at Southampton a week on Saturday.
Siem de Jong – suffered a leg injury in training
Siem had a season last term plagued with injury while he was still at Ajax, and he has been out injured during some of the pre-season, and only started his first game at home to Crystal Palace last Saturday.
Siem didn’t have a particularly good game, and Alan Pardew revealed after the game he was not fully fit – so we hope we haven’t been playing Siem when injured – however slight the injury may be – that only leads to trouble down the road.
Of all the new players we have brought in this summer, Siem could be the top of the bunch in terms of goalscoring ability – so it would not be good news if Siem is not available at Southampton – a game we have to do well in after only 2 points from our first three league games.
While at Ajax over seven seasons, Siem scored 78 goals in 244 total appearances for the Dutch giants.
Fingers crossed that he will be fit enough to play on the south coast in our next game, otherwise we could be struggling to score goals again.
Comments welcome.

Comment #282Look at the positive side:
1) maybe more time for aarons to play on the left and cabella supporting riviera
2) more chance for perez/ferreyra to play alongside riviera

Comment #284Doom Scenario :
If Krul gets injured on International Duty this week?
We will be even worse off than we are now !
As to SDJ, well i was not of the opinion that it was a good idea to sign him anyway. He spent 75% of his last two years at Ajax injured anyway!
Before we signed him i highlighted this fact to all you experts on here and got so much criticism and insults thrown in my direction about how i was wrong and did,nt know what i was talking about!
Now, 6Mil and a torn Thigh Muscle later, SDJ has been with us for what, 4 months? and will now be out for 4 months !
We could of had Virgil van Dijjk from Celtic for 4 Mil last month who would of been good cover for SDJ while he is out injured but did,nt go for him in the end?
Southampton and the Scum were after Virgil too i believe, but one way or another, non-activity and Ashley,s tight arse policy always seem to stop everything the Club tries to do?
