Rolando Aaron’s Debut Goal Puts England On The Right Track

Rolando Aarons made an impressive England debut for the U20 side tonight and scored a goal in the process.

Rolando Aarons in action against Romania

England won easily 6-0 in the game at Telford against Romania, and England manager was there to see the youngsters play – and we’re sure Roy has heard all about Rolando in pre-season in the Newcastle team.

The 18 year-old transformed the game last Saturday at home to Crystal Palace when he scored one and made one after he came on after 68 minutes.

If only he had been brought on earlier or had started, Newcastle could have won that won that game – but we didn’t – and we have just 2 points from the first three games.

And tonight, after it was a frustrating half for England and 0-0 at half time, Aarons scored the first goal and unleashed the flood gates and more goals came from Josh Murphy, Lewis Baker, Kwame Thomas and two from Callum Robinson.

The 6-0 win gave Aidy Boothroyd a perfect start to his reign in charge of the U20 side.

Newcastle star youngster Aarons celebrates his first goal for England

Matt Targett and John Swift played well to get the ball to Aaron in the box, and the 18 tear-old held off a defender before firing home off a post to put England ahead.

Rolando played 79 minutes of the game, and he has now scored in two successive games, after scoring for Newcastle shortly after coming on last Saturday against Crystal Palace.

And Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles, who played his first game of the season for Nottingham Forest last weekend, after recovering from injury, was an unused substitute tonight.

We wouldn’t be too surprised if Aarons get a shot in the England U21 side shortly, especially if he continues to star for Newcastle.

That’s always assuming he’s given enough playing time by Alan Pardew.

Comments welcome.

You make it sound like he scored the winner Ed. He contributed* to it, it wasn’t his goal which put us through!

I actually don’t know which day the game is on this weekend. That’s never happened before… I’ve never been this disinterested.

Very excited about this guy! Hopefully he’ll stay the whole season at least!

In De Jongs absence what would people prefer?

    1) Same formation with Cabella in the no. 10 role with Aarons and Gouffran/Sissoko on the wings?

    2) Playing a 4-2-2-2 with Cabella and Aarons on wings with Riviere and Ferreyra/Ayoze upfront?

Personally I hope we go for the latter as it may unlock much needed goals while De Jong is absent.

@ToonLynx I think Cabella has looked much better playing centrally.

Put cabella in the middle with Aarons and Sissoko on the wings.

Gouffran offers nothing going forward. He has been Pardewed now, he is a grafter that works hard and is solid defensively but that is it..

    @Yohan Kebab

I think that could be our best formation.

A variation from me if Tiote was still unfit would be to drop Sissoko next to Colback and play Riviere on the right and Ferreyra up top?

He’s fast and apparently quite capable of playing out wide!

    Food for thought

We as a club need to get out of this utility player mindset that Pardew has locked us into. We need to be playing players in their specialist positions and getting players in who are specialists. This Jack of all trades nonsense is beginning to seriously affect our shape and effectiveness in key areas.

It’s simply a way of Lessing spend and it’s weakening us. I’m not saying the odd utility player is a crime, they’re useful, but we have too many playing in too many positions as it stands.

With sdj out it gives us a perfect opportunity to go 433 which we did when we came 5th and played well v city first game with that formation.

    Krul

    Haidara willo collo janmaat
    Colback tiote sissoko
    Cabella Perez aarons

    I’d love to see that

@rowly that could work but put Colback down the left as he is a left sided player.

    Maybe..

    Janmaat – Willo – Colo – Haidara
    Sissoko —— Tiote —– Colback
    Cabella——-Riviere—–Aarons

That’s perfect IMO – Rivière has looked ok but I’m not sure if he’s not more suited as a right winger. Perez has looked good when he’s come on and also interested to see ferreyra. I suppose it will come down to how they train…

I think Riviere is good enough but needs a couple of goals to gain his confidence.

Perez is good but not as a solo striker, he needs a partner so I don’t think he would work in a 433.

Ferreyra looks good on his youtube clips but honestly who knows with Pardew?

We should have a system (like we did when we played 433 and finished 5th) and other teams should have to try and counter us.

Since then Pardew has changed our formation weekly, never let anybody settle and played players out of position to accomplish it. Now it seems he has settled on a 4231 formation which imo does not work well in an attacking sense because it leaves our strikers isolated and hence they become “Pardewed”.

My preference is for a 433 or a 442 and having wide players whip the balls in quickly to Cisse (it worked very well that year we finished 5th). The problem is we don’t have wide players. De Jong, Cabella, Sissoko Colback Tiote are all central players. Even Gouffran is more a central players. The only out and out wingers we have are Obertan and Aarons.

These international breaks are horrendous and never ending. Who gives a rat’s ass, other than worrying about who’s gonna come back injured. Sissoko goes away with France and starts talking to their press saying he’d a left only no one came in for him, rather than being here getting on with it. Colback’s comes back crocked. De Jong gets injured training for nothing while we badly need games to get a season up and running and we have to wait miserably and dwell upon a season that is now looking ominously and increasingly likes it’s already destined to be a disappointment and the whole domestic league shuts down for two weeks to play games only a lunatic could care less about, two months after a World Cup has finished. When did football get into this state.

I think the EPL should continue without its stars, which might create a more level playing field in the competition and opportunities for younger players, and each country should pay their own players their club wages while they are away and for the period they are out, if they return injured, with a big chunk of financial assistance from the likes of cash rich and self serving organizations such as UEFA and FIFA. Might discourage all this meaningless football.

The SUN as quoted by Sportinglife states Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has labelled Newcastle a bunch of long-ball merchants. It can’t be true surely? What about our pass and move dazzling mesmerizing interplays? Sorry getting mixed up with Whitley Bay Athletic!

I suppose the formation may depend on who is match fit (ie Tiote). I’m assuming Janmaat and Colback have recovered from their minor niggles but Tiote is not up to speed. I would replace him with Abeid who is possibly not as skillful as Anita but is more robust.

I would play Cabella in the middle between the midfield and Riviere as I think he has the footballing gifts to open up defences and play in others.

    Krul
    Janmaat – Williamson – Colo – Haidara
    Sissoko – Abeid – Colback – Aarons
    Cabella
    Riviere

Hindsight Ed., what a wonderful thing.
‘If Aaron’s had only started our last game, we could have won it’.
I really hope that the temptation to start this 18year old in every game is strongly resisted, and he is gradually nursed into playing full 90 min. matches as the season unfolds.
He’s clearly a special talent and could easily end up burnt out or crocked if overplayed at his young age.
