There have been reports in the last day or two that Newcastle should be looking at the free agent market to sign somebody who can score goals for Newcastle this season, especially since it seems we could lose Siem de Jong for up to four months, with a torn groin muscle.
Jonas – former Valencia forward
Failing to sign a striker on the last day of the transfer Monday last Monday and then having Siem injured a few days later is a very good example of just how Murphy’s Law (often appropriately also called Sods Law) works – if something can go wrong it will and at the worst possible time – that’s one definition of it.
There have been reports that former Brazilian great Ronaldinho is available as a free agent. but he’s way past his best and already 34 years old.
But former Brazilian International Jonas is now a free agent after finishing his four year spell at Valencia, and the 6¨ tall Sao Paulo born Brazilian International can play as a forward or as an attacking midfielder.
In his four years at Valencia, which ended last season, he played 139 games with 51 goals, and just last season he scored 10 goals in just 22 appearances for the Spanish club.
That’s not too bad a goalscoring record right there.
Jonas turned 30 on April Fool’s day, so he’s still relatively young, and probably would love to give the Premier League a go.
Like most Brazilians (at least of old) he’s a skillful player – not unlike Siem de Jong – and surely he would be a decent acquisition for us on a two year deal – or even a one year deal that can be extended if he does well.
But from what we’ve seen so far this season, we don’t exactly have a lot of prolific goalscorers in the side, and probably our best goalscorer is now out for four months.
What do you think?

Comment #82Rather than focusing on the finances and on how much money the club gets maybe…
Just maybe it might make more sense to switch it round and get MA thinking about why so many fans boycott SJP. Stop turning up and money will be spent, at the beginning of this window there was a lot of talk about fans not renewing tickets….A few signings later the numbers are back though….that’s why he always waits until the last days of the window to throw in a curve ball which says well done idiots fooled you again!!

An update on attacking midfielder Siem de Jong, who suffered an injury in training earlier this week
Siem de Jong sustained an injury to his right thigh in training earlier this week and is to be assessed further at the start of next week.
Initial indications are that he is likely to be out for a number of months.

Comment #100I wanted to create a new challenge because I was sick sore and tired of the ice bucket challenge.
So I created the breeze block challenge and nominated Jesper.
Jesper didn’t get the joke, and went off in a huff.

Look on NUFC.com Transfers, fifteen to eighteen players who have been in the first team have left since the January since those five were signed, two of whom have left, all those that have left have featured in the first team, I haven’t counted Xisco and Ranger but have counted Harper, I’ll let you decide how many you think can be counted, we have signed seven this summer if you say nine, then the ‘let go’ list becomes bigger, I agree there is a lot of deadwood there but getting rid of deadwood for better players is called progression, getting rid of them simply to reduce the wage bill is unnecessary penny pinching and will result in a cluster fcuk when those injuries and suspensions pile up.

Comment #106I think he maybe missed you Ibiza, and that’s the reason he was in a bad mood.
That kind of makes you responsible actually.

Comment #107BBC reports De Jong out for ” months ” ( think 2015 before he might be back ) due to thigh injury sustained in Training – you mean over training when already injured? What is it with our coaches and training pitches – no doubt Pardew will use the excuse of ” leaves lying on the wrong sort of grass ”
And the BBC mention lack of forward options having loaned out HBA – no sh*t Sherlock
Chickens coming home to roost now !

Me lose an argument never? In my mind it doesn’t count as a defeat if I’ve gifted him victory due to sheer boredom on what was an entirely moot point about squad numbers, so my 100% success rate is still intact 😉
What’s this about you effectively telling Jesper to drop a breeze block on his head? Your infamous wit and humour not coming across all that well? There’s a shocker! haha

All joking aside, I was considering whether the gravity of the statement would have been better served with a exclamation mark at the end of the sentence…such is the way my (our) minds work.

Comment #119We have a team full of small attackers who dont like playing the holding roll or through the middle.
With De jong injured we have exactly nobody.
This problem leaves us with the ever present Williamson at the back post to head back across for yet another season.
Percy sacked by chrimbo and religated.
Just hope it makes MA lose interest and leave.
