Every Week Is An Opportunity – We Can Beat Anyone

Mike Williamson scored his very first goal for Newcastle United against Crystal Palace a week last Saturday, and when a long duck like that is broken, usually what happens is that he’ll score again fairly quickly.

Get in – Mike Williamson scores first goal ever for Magpies against Palace

So let’s hope we can score some goals on Saturday at St. Mary’s and maybe Mike can get another for us.

We also hope out set-plays improve, since they have been terrible over the last couple of seasons , but there’s been little evidence of any real improvement over the first few games of the season.

We’ve always been impressed with Mike Williamson’s positive attitude since he arrived at Newcastle in January of 2010, and that’s in full cry today when he was interviewed in the Northern Echo:

“Every week is an opportunity.” “We believe we’ve got the quality in the squad to beat anyone on our day.” “Last year it was a disappointing result at St. Mary’s.”

“It is a new look Southampton and I speak to Fraser Forster a lot, he says they have a good group of lads and I have seen them a few times – they look strong.”

“They have got a lot of quality and it will be difficult but we will go there and look to get a win.”

“Palace were disciplined and worked hard, we were caught cold twice but showed character and resilience.” “We had the physicality to match them. There were positives there.”

We didn’t do well last season in the 4-0 loss, and that’s an understatement – in fact we were a disgrace and could have been 5-0 down at half time but for a great game from our number two goalkeeper Rob Elliot.

It also helped that the Saints missed many chances in that first 45 minutes.

We cannot do much worse than we did last season, which could have been our worst performance of the season, so maybe we can actually do well and get a win or a draw – and either of those would be a good result for us.

But we’re still hoping for the win, so we can see some positivity back with the Newcastle fans.

That’s what we need on Saturday.

A banner in or out of the ground grabs attention, gets photographed by the press and draws attention to a cause, they can also be a laugh, like the three liars one, JfK the clown and Pinnochio, if what is probably the most popular blog sites members think donating a quid or two is too risky then what are you up against.

Those banners seem to pop up regardless of people donating.

Also, the risk aspect isnt my primary concern, i ouylind my real issue earlier. The fact it will not bother Ashley one little bit. He doesn’t care what the fans or followers think. He will do things only when it suits him. You’re one of his biggest detractors (and i agree with what you say about him) so i am sure you know where i am coming from.

Wouldn’t ever want to take people away from Ed’s blog, but whilst on the subject of the sackpardew website, this is a very factual and reasoned article. The final paragraph is a haymaker

I’m quite happy to pay for something like a flag to show disapproval to this mob. However I won’t step foot into SJP though.

It is a good article. It does miss one thing out, though.
Squad depth. The squad was not strengthened after a fifth place finish. I still think we should have finished higher than we did, but it should not be completely ignored as a factor.

Oh good. Great plan. Oust one of our three remaining senior CBs, and the only one that isnt injury prone. Thats a worse tactical decision than Pardew ffs.

Off topic but relevant to a previous thread.

I wonder why elliot declared his intentions to seek pastures new if he doesn’t get enough game time this season (which he shouldn’t anyway) a week after the window shut..too scared incase he got fcuked off? Realisation he’s going to be behind krul for ever but it’s only just dawned on him?

You were signed as back-up in the first place rob from a league one club and I think your very lucky to be here in the sense that your basically pump, a bit like your boss!

Not being funny but Willo shouldn’t even be in, he should always be 4th choice back up problem is we need to buy 3 CBs.

I think it’s the beginning of the PR campaign to soften the blow of Krul leaving. I have no doubt that Elliot will have been told along with TK that Darlow joining means one of them is offski in the summer, it’ll be the one that’s valued the most.

Although that shouldn’t be an excuse because we had a summer to prepare, it is a good point.

I just found the figures in the article interesting. There are so many opinions thrown around by fans, you read so many articles that only offer opinions or bits of quotes, that it’s just refreshing to get one with some substance, albeit as you say, without fully analysing everything.(although I’m sure he does mention the fact that they are simply numbers and there are other factors which he “doesn’t take into account such as domestic cup commitments, manager changes, player turnover etc.”)

Yeah its still a good article. It proves that the club should not have been so badly affected by europa. Whether the blame is Pardews, Ashleys or Both (my opinion is both) the club funked it up.

please mike, when Alan is forced to walk away in the next few weeks why don’t you ask if you can join him, there’s a good boy,

you are a 6ft4 pussycat , you are following in the mould of the great man himself , someone who has found himself in the lucky position of being a pro footballer , without really possessing the abilities or skills to do the job, how players like you get to play week after week in the premiership is way beyond my comprehension,

you my friend are a total yes man , and that’s the only reason you are in the team ,
the idea of a pass to you is a long punt down the field , and heading the ball is , close your eyes and get the top of your head on the ball with no thought about where it will end up, SJP is filled with 50000 that can do your job for a fraction of the cost ,

please go and suck Pardews tools somewhere else

    I have a question…

Would you take relegation this season if it meant getting rid of both MA and Pardew? It’s hypothetical I know, so don’t start with “he wouldn’t sell in the championship etc etc..” I’m just curious..

A bit surprised at your comment there. A limited player, yes, but always a good professional. Gives his all, never hides.
Now, AP has nowhere to hide. He must get a win and a decent performance or he’s out. Thing is, he’s got 9 lives! How many times has he saved his axx at the very last? Still, they must be running out. MA’s expression spoke volumes. Either had digestive problems or didn’t enjoy the view.

    Willo plays like swing doors
    He celebrates before he scores
Iron Mike is 6 foot 4
Never plays it on the floor
At free kicks they aim for him
Never seen him head it in.

catchy @19 – Sorry but I think that is very unfair. Willo is actually quite a decent defender. Yes he lacks pace but at the match you can see his reading of the game and positioning is pretty good and he often makes a timely tackle or a good block. He actually organses the defence more than Colo does. Yes his passing is poor but all he has to do is give the ball to somebody who can pass!

Let’s not hide from facts willo is shite really and is championship standard at best, it’s safe to say that most judge him on his limited ability and therefore expect more from Colo. The Palace game was a clear indication of the double standards fans have towards players. Willo was continuously bailed out by Colo and Cabella didn’t close down Zaha as well as giving away the free kick that led to the 3rd. Colback was to blame for the 2nd goal, these individual mistakes are costing us and at this level we shouldn’t be accepting it.

If these mistakes had been made by other certain players the whole blog would be in uproar.

I wouldn’t take relegation because as Markaccus says we wouldn’t make it back up.

I am trying to be positive ahead of the game
but really Southampton have a lot bigger & better squad
than our team especially after those new signings
If they managed to beat us , it will be more embarrassment for Pardew , how they’ve settled quicker than our players ?
so his fake lies & excuses will appear publicly .
The best thing I would do If i was him is try and get the 3 points no matter what !!!
Because if he didn’t , we are not matching Southampton
this season & I can’t imagine what would happen against Hull after that !!

When Williamson plays with Coloccini something is wrong in our defense.Everyone can feel danger. This duo does not function seriously.Because of that there is manager who must replace some of these players and try another combination.I think that Coloccini is not the problem.Maybe I’m wrong. But I’m sure they are not serious PL duo when play together.I remember relegation season for us.Every player tried and ran so hard but we conceded goals from everywhere. And when in the 5th place season Coloccini and Taylor had 10 games unbeaten run they deserve second chance.

Our defensive options are poor. Thats not my argument. My point is that Willo and Collo is actually the best we can put out atm, and we can’t change that until January at the earliest! Getting rid of willo at this point would be suicide.

    manxpie,
It is a group of lads who are getting money together for flags, these things don’t pay for themselves, any money left over will be going to the SBR fund, I personally don’t think it is a scam and if having banners displayed in and around the ground as opposed to ‘bed sheets’ has the desired effect then I think it is money well spent, if as some of you lot think it’s a scam then I am a few quid worse off, I’ll stop in all weekend to claw the money back or sell my kettle.
