Alan Pardew spoke with the press for the first time since after the 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace almost two weeks – a game we should probably have own when we went ahead with a first ever Mike Williamson goal with just two minutes to play in normal time but allowed Palace to equalize with two minutes to play in the seven minutes of stoppage time.
Alan Pardew – under pressure
Siem de Jong damaged his thigh in training at the start of the international break early last week and it looks like it’s a long time out for the Dutch International – thought to be around four months.
Alan talked about Siem’s injury and the pressure on him after having got just 2 points in our first three league games:
.
“It’s difficult to assess,” “It’s whether he has an operation on the injury which we’ll probably determine this week. I’m suggesting certainly he won’t be back for the next three months. After that it could be any time really.”
“It’s part and parcel of the Premier League,” “We’ve not won a game yet so the teams that haven’t won a game, the pressure is on those particular managers.¨
“More so on me because of the back end of last year when we weren’t good enough, but I think we’re good enough this year,, and I think our results will reflect that.”
A win would certainly lift the mood of Newcastle fans on Saturday – but that looks like a tall order for Newcastle – unless we can play near our very best form.
And with 12 sackings in the Premier League last season, there’s no PL manager who can be sure his job is safe – and that’s true even for new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal – never mind Alan Pardew.
We are not expecting too much out of the game on Saturday, so we’ve given the lads have ample opportunity to surprise us with a good result. 😀

Comment #41Alreet lads any of the 15% post on this blog ?! Not posted for a while as it’s all a bit depressing ! Will a new manager galvanise us under Ashley regime ? I hope we get a buyer who has some ambition to awake the sleeping zebra giants of the north !

Comment #42Croftus, Not being in the team is massively different from being disrespected and banished in to the back of beyond.
Although Jonas shouldn’t have been starting through poor form, no way should he have had the disrespect to the extent he’s had now.
Ridiculous for someone who put in that much effort.

I don’t mind the Jonas situation, a little disrespectful but if games do trigger a new contract then best to let him leave and trust the likes of aarons to come into the side for the future.
Ben arfa might not be the classic team player, but at he same time we never play like a team, we never get many forward, usually just one in the box, etc…so would i rather my winger try too much or just aimlessly cross the ball like sammy and jonas into empty space?

Yes but why get somebody to sign a contract and then decide not to honour it, what evers happened it just leaves a bad taste.

Comment #45I hope Newcastle win on Saturday. If not I hope they put in an good performance. Unfortunately I expect the same old drivel.
How long will we have to wait for Ashley to give him the bullet?
I think he’ll get up until the next international break in October. So he has up to the Swansea game in my view.
Only one home game to that point.

I suppose you could say that, but when was the contract signed?I imagine 2/3 years ago? You have no idea how a player will decline at that age.
Players do the same thing, sign a 4 year deal then very happy to push for moves. It’s just the industry.
Surely they can’t give him another year on 50k a week out of loyalty when he will hardly feature.

Comment #47Transfer, surely it’s just triggering a payment and not actually a new contract?
His contract will probably be until the end of the season like the standard ones are? Therefore he’s under contract so if h’s form dictates a starting place or bench, then so be it. Not banished to nowhere near the first team though. Disgusting.
For the pleading of the manager to put effort in, in contrast to Hatem, that is the way he’s treated. It’s wrong in my opinion. As are much of the contradictions around the first team. Colo, Cabaye etc.

I think there are far too many contradictions by Pardew in how he behaves then how he expects others to behave….we still don’t know what the unprofessional behaviour involving ben arfa was.
As for Jonas, from what I read his contract expires this summer, if he players x amount more games then he is automatically offered another year on that deal.

Comment #50Transfer, yes, it is the industry. However, when two face Pardew starts putting up attitude guidelines in respect to players playing and Hatem, they can’t then go and decide to do the opposite to Jonas.
I just think he deserves better for his hard work.

he’s been told he’s no longer wanted at the club ! which is true and i’m sure pretty much every fan here would be crying if he was on the squad list !
he’s basically been given the freedom to find a new club “while we are still paying him” and he’s able to take as many hols as he could want as theres no need for him at the club so he can train with whomever he wants to show them what he has to offer !
maybe it would be better if we just released him and let him sign on the dole ? i cant see how this is bad on jonas !!! he’s got freedom and is getting paid 60k per week.

I don’t understand this “team player” comment a lot of the time. Nobody levels this at tiote and cabaye and they wuld regularly shoot from distance or waste possession.
In my opinion ben arfa is a little selfish but that’s a product of the system we play, if you give a player no support then what else can he do? It’s either knock the ball back for one of our defenders/midfielders to eventually lump forward or to try and create something yourself.
All players who score goals waste a lot more than they score, even ronaldo and messi waste more chances than they convert.
Also as far as I am aware it’s good for the team if a player scores, ben arfa scored a lot and at key times and won many games for the team.
I don’t think ben arfa is some sort of god people make him out to be at times, but the lad is a damn fine player and I think we will see that at Hull.

In fairness the club tried to help him find a new deal but Jonas seems pretty happy being back home on his 50k a week. They got him a loan move last year to get some football.
It’s not the clubs fault nobody is willing to match the 50k a week he is on with us.

Comment #54Gutierrez said: “We have to do things the right way.
“There were some things that went wrong last season, the training sessions for example.
“They had no intensity. Our training sessions were really light and then we suffered in matches.
“The senior players, including me, have talked with Pardew as we wanted changes.
“Let’s see if the training sessions change this season and have more intensity.”
——–
Blind faithers say that oh Pardew has got this change in the game and that change, yet it is probably things like this where the players tell the manager, that the ball is on the floor more.
Ridiculous. The players are actually having to tell the manager that things aren’t good enough.
More proof that the coaching and tactics are abysmal. His quotes there will be toned down to what he’d tell you away from the journalists,
Coaches are supposed to have the more knowledgeable outlook of the game.
It’s brave for him to speak out like that. Not long after he’s banished.

Comment #55The thing that makes your case against Pardew so OTT is that you ‘haters’ make no distinction between what he does or says and what is totally standard practice at any other football club.
Criticise him for his tactics if you like. Almost everyone on here has a view on line up, formation etc., but when a player such as Cabaye or Enrique before him are clearly about to be sold, the standard announcement from the selling club in the matches leading up to the sale is that he is unfit to play.
For this Pardew is labelled a liar. Can’t you guys see that this makes your case appear hysterical and obsessive ?

I don’t think so. Sure that does happen at times with some clubs (not all) and that decision will probably be taken out of his hands…he just goes along with all the lies the owner tells which means people have no interest in giving him the benefit of the doubt.
Tactics are a problem for me, I dont claim to know the ins and outs but what i do know is how we play doesn’t work and whether i could correct it or not i would try something different.

Comment #59I wouldn’t be crying if he’s on the squad list, but I’d be angry if his work-rate is misused to single handedly be a full-back babysitter like it has been. Like Gouffran is now.
He’s been run into the ground. His crosses are crap and I wanted him to lose his place, but he could have been utilised for ground passes cut back across the box if coached correctly. That’s my view of him anyway.

Comment #60Well Percy was supposed to be going to be asked about deadline day at his press conference and he was. Extract:-
‘We haven’t spoken to you since deadline day, you didn’t manage to get anybody in on transfer deadline day and you let two go in Yanga-Mbiwa and Ben Arfa, what was the thinking behind that?’
“Well the thinking behind that was to get a squad that was good enough to go forward and we think we have got that.”
And it would appear that was it – not much of a explanation -looks like he’s saying releasing two players gets an stronger squad.
Surely on the basis of being transparent and trying to have a good relationship with fans he could have said something more than this, I’m afraid to say utter drivel which to me demonstrates an arrogance towards supporters.

I listened to BBC newcastle total sport tonight….they had an interview with poyet who was asked about transfer business.
He basically said that he was dissapointed, a couple of deals never came through they wanted, left them a little short in some areas and they needed to buy alternatives after not getting targets.
Nice to hear some honest and genuine emotion in his voice.

I do agree he doesn’t always see the bigger picture but that can be said for pretty much all of our players.
I’m not saying he is perfect, he does waste things, but what I’m saying is that our team doesn’t commit many people forward at all, it makes options limited.
Could easily argue without the threat he brings and panic to defences, taking the extra man to pick him up we might have scored even less goals.
It’s difficult to judge these things, what we need to do is see stats for the team where he has played and games where he hasn’t, watch this season and see if we are better without him…etc etc

Pardew comes out with the same sort of bollox that I do when I’m at a job interview and I’ve been caught out by a rogue question that I hadn’t expected.
Which in my book is ten times worse in his case because this is exactly the sort of question people wanted answering and he knew it. His arrogant brush-off in the hope that we’ll all sweep the whole thing under the carpet just makes me dislike the man even more.
Make no mistake, he’s in this up to his neck along with Ashley, I’m still amazed certain people can’t see that.

i do agree and think we was a lot better with support when we had demba ba upfront who was a proper forward and always pushing the back four instead of all these no10 players pards seems to want to sign all the time 🙁
its why i think without chucky or cisse as it is now we will always be poor going forward but with them in imo it will open up space for rolando/sissoko/siem/cabella ect.
and ye we all hoped every time arfa played that he would see the bigger picture as he could have become a great player.

Comment #71Croftus, look at the players around him ball watching though. He’s waiting to for the players to make runs as well. He can’t pass it if nobody is running. On one part he holds it and only Cisse makes the run, sure enough crosses it and Cisse scores the header.
He’s got outstanding skill and it’s a crime that the rest of the team can’t be coached into playing with fluidity.

I felt the exact same thing reading through his press conference. Angered me greatly (that said Pardew angers me greatly all of the time now). He just seems so nonchalant and unfazed. He should have sat there and had the decency and respect to give a proper explanation and show a knowledge of the growing discord around him from the fans. He should have acknowledged it and sat there with some passion to try and show that he knows he’s not been good enough and he’s exploring every possible avenue in which to get this team back on track and playing football.
Instead he just sits there thinking he’s God’s gift and the ultimate manager. Pisses me off, but that’s why people dislike him and his times coming to an end. His ego is unbearable.

Comment #73transfer/andrew – I was hoping that we might have been given a little bit about why nbody was brought in on deadline day. Percy had intimated that they were looking at people and it was just the finance.
He could have explained along the lines “the players we were looking at were too expensive considering the total finances involved” or similar.
The silence about what happened to me ilustrates more deception -they were not looking at anybody at all.

Comment #74One of the reasons we are ao poor is exactly what LR32 just alluded to. There’s no visible off the ball training whatsoever in this team, hasn’t been since Pardew arrived. There are no set runs players make when we are in possession, there’s no players drawing defenders and making openings. It’s entirely pedestrian. When the top teams get the ball, the rest of team automatically gets into a set rhythm and shape of how to attack and offer options. We never ever ever do that. It’s woeful.
