Colback, Anita Start In Newcastle Central Midfield

Southampton badgenufc emblem

With the injuries we have at the moment, Alan Pardew has named the team most fans expected, with Jack Colback and Vurnon Anita playing in central midfield for Newcastle against Southampton today.

Cheick Tiote as expected starts on the bench today, and Sammy Ameobi gets a rare place as a sub, along with Elliot, Obertan, Adam Armstrong and Ayoze Perez.

Newcastle will again play in their familiar 4-2-3-1 formation, and it looks like Moussa Sissoko will be in the withdrawn striker role,  playing behind Manu Riviere.

Former Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster – who never actually played for the Newcastle first team in a competitive game – is in goal for the Saints – and £12M signing Shane Long is up front.

It will be a decent result if Newcastle can take something out of this game, but a defeat would increase the calls for the manager Alan Pardew to be sacked.

We’re hoping for the win.

Howay The Lads!!

Southampton (4-3-3): Fraser Forster; Nathaniel Clyne, Jose Fonte (c), Toby Alderweireld, Ryan Bertrand; Steven Davis, Morgan Schneiderlin, Jack Cork; Shane Long, Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic
Substitutes: Kelvin Davis, Maya Yoshida, Florin Gardos, Victor Wanyama, James Ward-Prowse, Emmanuel Mayuka, Sam McQueen

Newcastle (4-2-3-1): Tim Krul; Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Massadio Haidara; Vurnon Anita, Jack Colback; Remy Cabella, Moussa Sissoko, Yoan Gouffran; Emmanuel Riviere
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Steven Taylor, Cheick Tiote, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi, Adam Armstrong, Ayoze Perez

Im guessing sissoko is the main man in the middle. He can’t find a killer pass but he can bomb on though. Hopefully this will open them up.

Really wanted to see Cabella in the middle today.

Once again, he’s picked exactly the team everybody expected. He must be a dream for other managers; they can work out their tactics all week knowing what our formation will be, our starting 11, and our free kick tactic.

Pardew’s motto could be ‘if it’s broke don’t fix it.’

Rivierre to be anonymous again playing as the lone striker in this 4-2-3-1 that clearly doesn’t work for us .

    Great stuff.

Well when it’s not working! Way to shake things up there Pardew, a blind man could tell you that Rivière isn’t a loan CF so expect another frustrating isolated display!

Well at least Southampton don’t have a point to prove….not as if Pardew spent the window spouting off about how sh1te Long is or saying Southampton are an unknown and disjointed team this season…

Wow, that niggling non-international injury of tiote’s must be really hampering his return to the first team. We really could have done with his loyalty, passion and pride for nufc out there today. Never mind, he’s there in spirit. 😉

I think Abeid deserved a chance in this game. He’s looked at least as good as Anita, and the only way to find out if he can be a player for us is to have some faith in him.

Riviere will be working hard again, but as lone striker he is not good enough. I,m not criticising Riviere, it’s the tactics of our dumb manager, everybody sees that, except the person who should see it. Ridiculous…

Can anyone tell me where that Ferreyra guy is? Why did they loan him if he is not selected?

And our bench looks not that strong at all. Why did we let Mbiwa and Benny go, I cannot understand it at all, especially if you see the crappy Taylor and Obertan getting selected week in week out.

If we loose, which I realy expect today, I hope we will get rid of the clueless magaer we have got….

Pardew is doing all the work for us with that line up, would seem a shame for the lads to pull out a gut busting performance to save the clown. Best result? An ugly, against the run of play win.
