Watching the game yesterday was very difficult for Newcastle fans, as the lads put in a pathetic display right from the first whistle and we nearly gave up a stupid goal after about 25 seconds when Colo put a late pass back to goalkeeper Tim Krul who then smashed the ball against Shane Long, and it was only luck that the ball went just wide of the post and not into the goal.
So in that sense we made a better start than last time out when we were 1-0 down after that same short time period at home to Crystal Palace.
Hey boss – can I keep my job?
This is Pardew, Ashley and Charnley before last season’s 4-0 thumping
But that was a warning of things to come, and we were two down after 19 minutes, and both goals from Pelle were due to poor defending and then in the second half Tim Krul and Mike Williamson managed to gift Southampton their third goal, when each player left the other to get the ball – and Cork nipped in to put the ball into the back of the net.
The last goal in stoppage time was a stunner from Schneiderlin.
Newcastle still have a very porous defense, and it’s not that we haven’t known about that for some time – but we didn’t bring in another center-back in the transfer window, although some good ones were available – like Toby Alderweireld, who was in the Saints side yesterday.
Our defense just didn’t look good enough, and it’s not like we have other players to bring in – with Santon out for another couple of months – and Yanga-Mbiwa having been dispatched out on loan to Roma.
Newcastle also haven’t replaced Yohan Cabaye in the middle of the field, and we are still lacking creativity there – and some of the creative players we have brought in like Remy Cabella haven’t come through yet – and of course Siem de Jong is out injured until the new year.
We have already conceded 10 goals during the first two games, and that’s an average of 2.5 goals a game and last season we averages 1.55 goals conceded per game (59 goals in total) and the season before it was 1.79 goals/game – our worst ever in the Premier League when we conceded a 68 goals.
And the worry that we don’t have enough goalscorers in the side was confirmed yesterday, when we had two good chances to score but Fraser Forster produced an excellent save from Moussa Sissoko and then Riviere was nicely set up by Sissoko, but from 10 yards out he managed to scuff the ball past a post – and that was an embarrassing miss from the Frenchmen.
But the problems we had in the second half of last season don’t seem to have been fixed although we do have players like Perez, Armstrong, Aarons and of course De Jong who could come through for us this season.
It’s early days yet, but we are bottom of the league and Mike Ashley has to decide whether to keep Pardew on board for the game at home to Hull City next Saturday – a game we lost 3-2 last season.
If Pardew is still on board it’s going to be strange with Steve Bruce in the other dugout, and Steve is one who is being tipped as a candidate for the job, if Pardew is fired.
The Chronicle is reporting Pardew will still be manager next Saturday, but don’t give any insight why they are reporting that – maybe it’s an opinion from Lee Ryder – but with only four games gone we would think that Alan will not be fired this week.
And if we win against Hull City – which looks a difficult task if we play anything like we did yesterday – Pardew will not be sacked next week either.
But it’s getting hard to see how Alan can work his way back into the fans’ favour, after we have just one win in our last 12 league games.
The terrible form of the second half of last season has continued into the season – and that was always going to be the disaster scenario.
We would love to see Frank de Boer and his team come in from Ajax – but we doubt that will be a choice Mike Ashley will make – he wants somebody who is willing to work under (very) strict financial controls – and it would help if he isn’t an ambitious manager.
That’s not Frank de Boer.
What do you think?

Comment #42I don’t think Mikey was ever comfortable having four first team CB’s, research would have shown that two of them weren’t out long enough to disrupt a mid table finish, I think if MYM hadn’t of gone STaylor would have been forced out.

how is that not de boer? He gets next to nothing to spend and the majority of the time he brings up a player from the academy to replace a sold player

Comment #44Can we get past the myth that de Boer is responsible for the youth academy at Ajax, it’s been in place for decade’s de Boer himself even came through it into the first team.
Yes he’s a very good young manager but if anyone thinks Ashley will look to him as Pardew’s replacement they need their head looking at

previous post, it was later quoted that mbiwa himself didn’t consider the premier league the sort of league for him because it was too physical.
when shearer said pardew doesn’t have a say in transfers i think he is talking about the ones where ashley will be loosing money not the ones where ashley makes money.
carroll for instance was a player he wanted to keep but no way did ashley allow that he wanted 35 mil.
ba was a player pardew wanted to keep but again ashley would not improve his contract, instead ashley wanted him on low wages or he had to leave
cabaye was a player pardew wanted to keep, cabaye himself wanted the team improving if he were to remain not a team that does nothing so he was sold and not replaced.
mbiwa was a player pardew wanted out ashley wouldn’t care about that because he would now have 1 player less on his wage bill.
what pardew will have wanted was another CB but like carroll, like ba and like cabaye we again loose a player but don’t replace him.
he can have as much say as he likes if it’s a player he wants to leave the club, what he can’t have any say on is the players he wants to keep and the ones he wants to bring in, they are all ashleys choice.

Comment #47If any of you out there beleive this man will be sacked by his best mate you’re mad,,, and as far as wot shearer said, I agree in 50% but I don’t agree with the fact pardew knows fine well the policy of his mate ashley! he has a ego to cope with and deflect sh!t from Ashley,,, then when this massive free advertising campaign for sports direct runs its course, they will move north, pardew,Ashley and the rest,,, Rangers, next season but 1( we heard him say it nufc will not be sold for 2 seasons),,, seems to fit exactly for them, then sports direct get the ultimate sales advertising global in the champions league,,, for a hell of a lot less bank rolling than the English prem,,,,, THINK ABOUT IT LADS,,,

it was only until FDB came in that they started using it again as part of their transfer policy. i think he made a rule that something like every year, 3 players from the academy have to break into the first team.

Comment #53I’ve always defended pardew but he looks a beaten man now. No way back. We need a BETTER manager not just another one though. Ashley also needs to go all out for a quality CB, striker and backup playmaker in january or he can look forward to championship football and we won’t bounce back up as webhave zero leaders on the pitch…he got rid of them all. Make no mistake pardew may not be able to fix this but ashley 100% made this mess.

Our youth set up is as appalling as the first teams set up and it’s just another area Ashley has scrimped on so expecting anything to come through that is an impossible ask.
The Ajax set up is as near to perfection as you’ll ever get where as we have scraped together coaches that are simply not good enough

Comment #55Not too surprised he’ll still get the Hull game, that has been the story for a while now. Ash will judge him after 5 games and unless we come out and destroy them 3 or 4 nil he won’t last beyond that game.

I think he lost the dressing room a long time ago,
I think when Ba cabaye and colo asked him to change his style all the way back then , he lost them , we have never played as a team and the proof is how many wonder goals we score to dig him out of the brown stuff
rolando did it for him last week, all these new players and it takes an 18 year old to ago the way to goal ,
together we stand divided we fall, we are falling guys

Enjoying reading the discussions swinging this way and that about who should be our next manager.
I got my forecast wrong for yesterday. I said Saints by 3 – 1. There you go, probably a bit optimistic to think we’d actually score.
Nothing has changed then. Pardew’s time is up at NUFC. He’s lost the fans and probably the players too. If he’s still here for the Hull game then that will surely be his last. Undoubtedly the best outcome for him and for the club.
The fact that there’s so much division of opinion over who should succeed him, suggests that unless Ashley comes up with a stellar appointment (which we all know he won’t – too costly), the new guy will soon be getting it in the neck from you anti brigade before very long.
At the risk of repeating myself, there’s nowt going to change till our bast@rd billionaire owner goes. ‘Shooting the messenger’ won’t cure the problem.

Comment #66mag52 I went for a 3 -1 or 3 -0 for the Saints- as it was apparent our disorganisation would be our downfall.
If Tubbs is daft he won’t fire Percy and ther’ll be hell on at the Hull match – thus bringing NUFC and by association SD into disrepute – I’ll really think Mr Tubbs does not like adverse PR.
Now if he’s smart he’ll get rid of Percy and hire somebody who knows what they are doing – thus getting good PR and avoiding the expected scenario at the Hull game.
But Tubbs is Tubbs so God knows what he’ll do

Comment #69Ideally i would love to see coming in an ambitious, young manager who wants to play attacking progressive football using youngsters from our academy.
My first choice would be De Boer with Bergkamp as his assistant but would settle for Sherwood with Les Ferdinand as his assistant.
Need to clear out Pardew, Carver, Stone, Beardsley & the rest of the current shockingly poor coaching team & completely clear the decks bringing in all new coaches but we will Probably end up with Pulis or Moves!!!

I think that is the case as Ashley is that sly and devious, there are a lot of fans saying that if he’s still in charge for the Hull game that he’ll be sitting in director box rather than the dug-out, but I can’t see Ashley wanting him there as that would be a dream for the fans as they could nail them together

the new guy will only get it in the neck if he plays containing, defending deep, no movement in midfield type football and constantly lies.
fans have rightly been on the case of some truly appalling management selections: Souness, Allardyc, pardew etc where as everyone enjoyed watching KK and SBR teams.

Firstly I never slagged off your post I just dismissed your theory, that is what a blog is for and I did make a suggestion about the shirt logos, I also don’t think the off chance of Rangers making the group stages of the CL out weigh the benefits of the PL beamed to over 200 countries every weekend.
