It took some time to issue it but Newcastle United have finally issued a statement on Jonas Gutierrez.
Jonas Gutierrez – testicular cancer
Here it is:
————–
Newcastle United can confirm that winger Jonas Gutierrez is continuing to receive treatment in Argentina after being diagnosed with testicular cancer.
The Club has been aware of Jonas’ condition for some time, but has respected his wish for privacy as he undergoes treatment with his friends and family around him.
Newcastle United managing director, Lee Charnley, said:
“We have and will continue to offer Jonas our full support.” “We thank our fans for their kind messages of support for Jonas and the thoughts and best wishes of everyone connected to Newcastle United are with him at this time.”
The club kindly requests that Jonas’ privacy is respected ahead of further enquiries.
————–
That’s a good statement just a little late in coming – but to be fair to the club these things are very personal – and we can understand why they didn’t announce anything if Jonas did want to keep it quiet – before he announced it himself yesterday.
We assume the club is picking up the tab on all his medical expenses.
Jonas has had loads and loads of messages from Newcastle fans and from those in football from all over the world in the last 24 hours, since the news broke.
The messages will be a wonderful tonic to the Argentine in his fight against the cancer.
Again – we are praying for Jonas – and know he can beat this.

Comment #1finally………..ed posts about the statement! 🙂
again the club would have been in this process with guti from the start and people hammering them for it are wrong and the fact it has come from guti himself shows the privacy they have kept even players here were shocked to hear about it

Comment #2I’m sorry to hear about Jonas cancer. I wish him the best in a full recovery.
How the club handled the situation with the “you’ll not play here again” and then the loan, fooled me as to his health issues.

Comment #6I think the way Jonas’s medical problems has been used to castigate the owner and the manager is absolutely disgusting. I also remember the abuse Jonas used to receive when he was picked in the team. Some people’s hypocrisy is unbelievable.
Allegedly, Jonas was sent out on loan as there is a clause in his contract if he plays a certain number of games he gets a new contract.
Support the team not the owner.
